The Functions of Manipura

The Manipura is known by under many other names, including manipuraka. It is the third of the higher on the Chakra Chart. This Chakra deals with everything related to perceptions of who you are. This is also the area that sources all matters of ego and willpower. The word Manipura means ‘place of gems’ or ‘shining like a pearl’ and has been described as 10 red petals with a downward- pointing triangle, representing the element of Fire at the centre. The meanings of the ten petals are: spiritual ignorance, thirst, , treachery, , fear, disgust, delusion, foolishness and sadness. All these are aspects to overcome at this chakra level before proceeding to work on purifying the Heart Chakra. The Manipura represents our third dimensional consciousness, and it is also ultimately the gateway to our fourth dimensional consciousness on the Astral Plane.

Your connections with Manipura can often be determined by what you experience on a physical level. This connection focuses on self- esteem, your will power, self-discipline as well as warmth in your personality. This can allow you to transform inertia into action and motion. It allows you to meet challenges and move forward in your life. This Chakra also controls and digestion.

Connections with the power within ourselves will keep this Chakra healthy and balanced in all aspects of your physical and spiritual life. By allowing yourself to acknowledge the conscious thoughts, feelings, actions, words and behaviours we use our will-power to consciously control our reactions, allowing you to always come from a place of kindness and love. You can choose to achieve your life purpose or you can live out your karma or past experience.

Associated Health Issues

When this chakra is you are confident and empowered with a healthy self-esteem, free from ego. It allows us to have respect for ourselves as well as others, ensuring you have a strong sense of responsibility and life in general. This in turn enables you to feel more in control of your life and do not feel victimised or controlled by others, living consciously and becoming more outgoing and cheerful.

Since the Manipura is more about ego and will-power, this Chakra is strongly aligned with the , pancreas, liver, gallbladder and spleen. When this Chakra is out of balance, you may experience problems with these organs, including digestion. Stress and trauma dramatically affects this Chakra. If you can remove yourself from the stress and find better ways of dealing with the situation, this will provide long term benefits to your physical and spiritual body.

When excessive energy is running through this Chakra, you may feel more judgemental of others, more domineering in your actions and perfectionist in everything that you do. You‘ll be uptight and overly intellectual and often a workaholic, focusing on the logical aspects, instead of coming from a place of understanding and love.

When this Chakra is blocked you may lack confidence, display low self-esteem, lack direction and conviction, as well as be very indecisive and confused about where you wish to be in your life. You may also worry constantly about what others may think about you or your actions.

By gradually opening up to the possibility of our greater life of Spirit, we may begin to balance Manipura and it is only then that you may enter fully into the Heart Chakra.
