The group is credited for starting the whole northern European Christian extreme metal scene with their 1991 demo The Defeat of Satan, according to the liner notes of the writer Michael Bryzak on the band's compilation album of the same title. Antestor is the only Christian band to have an album released by Cacophonous Records, which has also released records by bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Sigh, and Cradle of Filth. In the 1990s, Antestor, together with Horde, were the only two Christian black metal groups who had a record deal with a secular label. The band's only release on Cacophonous, The Return of the Black Death, proved influential for the Christian black metal movement, and has sold over 10,000 copies. During that time, they dubbed their musical style as 'sorrow metal' rather than black metal because the black metal movement was publicly ailiated with Satanism in Norway. According to HM Magazine, the progressive elements on the debut album, Martyrium, were possibly ahead of their time in the Norwegian extreme metal scene. 100 pp. Englisch. Loïc Santos Les années 1960 aux Etats-Unis représentent, à bien des égards, un exemple frappant de chamboulements économiques, politiques, sociaux, et bien évidemment culturels. La Guerre Froide marque les mentalités de l’époque au fer rouge, à l’extérieur du pays comme à l’intérieur, et sur sol américain, la Lutte des Droits Civiques, titanesque mouvement de revendications sociales afro-américain, rythme la vie politique et sociale du pays depuis le milieu des années 1950. Ce mouvement de revendication, tel que nous le concevons aujourd’hui, est porté par plusieurs figures marquantes de leur époque, qu’il s’agisse du pasteur Martin Luther King, du militant musulman Malcolm X, ou des leaders étudiants comme Stokely Carmichael. Aux côtés de ces personnalités fortement médiatisées, c’est une large partie de la population afro-américaine des années 1960 qui milite dans un mouvement politico-social protéiforme, dont les axiomes, les actions et les modes de revendication ont, au cours de presque deux décennies de mouvement, fortement évolué. Ces actions ont pris des formes aussi diverses que des manifestions et des marches, des campagnes d’inscriptions massives sur listes électorales, des débats publics… Si de nos jours, nous retenons volontiers l’action non-violente et la désobéissance civile prônées par Martin Luther King et ses proches, le mouvement a connu bien d’autres visages, et bien d’autres modes d’actions, qu’il s’agisse des discours enflammés de Malcom X, ou, à la fin des années 1960, des actions armées menées par les membres du Black Panthers Party.

It is an attempt to show how history and cultural heritage can possibly be spread among people using an unconventional way. The followed research method was built on an explorative study that included an analysis of elements of the music, such as lyrics, performance and fashion, together with interviews of bands and people from the metal scene. However, the study focused on five different metal styles in Europe: the early metal (60’s and early 70’s), The new wave of British heavy metal (around the 80’s), the Swedish death metal (’90-present), the Norwegian black metal (’90-present) and the folk metal (mid 90’s-present). The analysis shows that cultural history plays a role in certain styles of metal or particular bands. Especially in Black metal and in the closely related Viking metal, the use of history and cultural heritage is most common. There are bands within these styles that tell stories through their lyrics and express the historical feeling by the overall image and appearances at concerts. The research shows how history and cultural heritage are used by many bands as an inspiration as well as how it can play a role in forming a common identity among fans and musicians.

Cognitive Prospects Geneza unblack metalu i jej współczesna recepcja. Perspektywy poznawcze Abstract The social and cultural phenomenon of the musical subgenre unblack metal (UBM) is analysed and presented in the paper. The paper aims to highlight the most important aspects and ideological content as a part of content analysis of the musical works by selected UBM bands that represent all three waves of this musical genre. This paper is a first step towards creation of the consistent UBM image to present it in the Polish academic environment. It is a good start for further advanced research to be developed in the future. Several methodological problems that were encountered during research were presented before the analysis of UBM phenomenon. In the paper there is an outline of the UBM history, its ideological foundations that can be found in the musical works of the most important bands from the mid-90-ties until today, the author’s vision of the UBM three waves and preliminary content systematisation with thematic sections with the accent on the stylistic efforts and language. UBM texts concern mainly Bible, both Old and New Testaments, but that does not mean that UMB texts are narrowed down to the religious content only. I emphasised eleven thematic sections, several dozens expressions and propaganda mechanisms that have been used.
