Rosso come il cielo Red Like the Sky (Italian: Rosso come il cielo) is a 2005 Italian drama film written and directed by Cristiano Bortone and starring Luca Capriotti and Paolo Sassanelli. It is based on the childhood experiences of sound editor Mirco Mencacci. Mirco Mencacci (born 1961) is a famous Italian sound designer who works with all aspects of sound, within art (film, music). Mencacci was born in Tuscany in Italy. When he was 4 years old, he was rendered blind due to a shotgun accident in his grandfather’s garden. He moved in Genoa at the age of 7 to attend a disabled school, specifically for the blind children. His story inspired the Italian autobiographical film Red like the Sky which illustrates the conditions of schools for disabled students in Italy in the 1970s. In 1981, Mencacci founded the SAM recording-facility in Lari, Italy. Since 2001, he has been fighting a personal battle against noise pollution which the second biggest pollutant in the world. In the cinema field, Mencacci has crafted sound design for international films that have screened in over one hundred film festivals across the world, such as the Venice Film Festival, the San Francisco International Film Festival, Eye Honors New York, the Milwaukee Film Festival, and the Hamburg International Short Film Festival. Mencacci is the inventor of the Spherical Sound System, which he uses in his cinematographic works. In 2016 he was invited by Dolby to the Casa del Cinema in Rome in to demonstrate his system to audiences. Red Like the Sky - won the Audience Awards at the São Paulo International Film Festival and at the Sydney Film Festival.

  • DA VINCI a Film by Yuri Ancarani Italy, 25 Min Colour No Dialogues Da
DA VINCI a flm by Yuri Ancarani Italy, 25 min colour no dialogues Da Vinci is the title of the fnal chapter of Yuri Ancarani's trilogy, which is centred on the theme of work. Conceived and made as artist documentaries, the frst two chapters, as well as being able to boast several important names, such as Maurizio Cattelan as producer, were presented at the 67th and 68th Venice Film Festivals. The three chapters will become a feature flm in episodes which will be presented as a special event in 2013. The flm Da Vinci is entirely set inside an operating room, an imaginative journey into a microcosm where the hope and expectation felt from the outside are confused with the clear and rational objectivity of the machine and the surgeons. An unintentional drama is triggered by the working process, with time marked by the waiting, moments of pathos, a sense of routine normality that leads us viewers to be fascinated by such serenity and professionalism in the doctors and operating room staff. Ancarani sought and captured the innovation of the Da Vinci system which consists of this: the patient's body who will never be touched directly by the hands of the physician, but only by the arms of the robot. During the course of the entire operation the extraordinary images captured by the robot will guide, in addition to our own, the expert eyes of the physician surgeon. The flm has been shown in an International Premiere on November 15, 2012 at the Rome Film Festival , in the new section entitled "Cinema of the twenty-frst century", in collaboration with the MAXXI National Museum of XXI century Art.

  • President's Message
A PUBLICATION OF THE ITALIAN CULTURAL SOCIETY WINTER 2019 VOLUME 20 ISSUE 2 President’s Message Saluti amici e Buon Anno! With this writing we are celebrating our 21st year of the Italian Cultural Society of Naples. Thus far, our first two Events, the Columbus Day Luncheon and the Welcome Back Lecture and Luncheon, have been well-attended as our snowbird members (like the storied Capistrano swallows) slowly make their way back here to Naples and Paradise. You should know that Ron Diorio, one of our first ICS members, has been busy this fall preparing a History of our organization which we will eventually place on our website for all to have. It will then be regularly updated. Equally busy has been Board member Kathleen Azzariti, who has organized three exciting and useful activities under the heading of Amicizia Groups. They include a Book Discussion group; a Travel Group where members discuss past and future trips to Italy: what to see, how to travel, etc., including trips to this year’s ICS area of interest, the Northwest Macro Region of Italy; and finally, there is the Family Legacy Group that exchanges memorabilia about one’s family, including recipes, photographs, scrap books and places of interest, and offers help writing family journals, and the like. A different member will lead each group at her home. All members are welcome to participate. You can always call Kathleen for the latest information at 239-304-0924 or email her at [email protected]. These activities have really taken off, so join in for the fun and the learning.
