NWT Bureau of Statistics March 1, 2019 NWT Bureau of Statistics • Central Statistical Agency for the Government of the Northwest Territories • Mandate is to ensure that statistics are available for the NWT for policy and planning decisions • 7 staff members What kind of work do we do? • Community Population estimates and projections • Labour market demand and supply • Input/Output modelling • Regional Market Basket Measure • Price Surveys • Household Surveys • Community Profiles 2019 NWT Community Survey • This survey has been conducted every 5 years since 1984 • Designed to provide community level information in between Census years • This year, heavy emphasis on housing to coordinate content with the Canadian Housing Survey General Content
• Housing Conditions • Labour Force Statistics • Education Levels • Traditional Activities • Ability to speak Indigenous Language General Content
• Data is often available by: – NWT community or region – Sex and age – Indigenous/Non-Indigenous New Content
• Housing Satisfaction • Outstanding Mortgage Owed • Ability to Make Ends Meet • Indigenous Languages Current Operations • Also conducting a full price survey which will be available by end of the summer • Hoping to complete operations of the community survey by the end of March or early April at the latest – Travel completed in 10 communities, may follow up by phone – Ongoing in 13 communities – Still need to visit 11 communities Operations by Community
