Immigrants in Richmond According to the 2016 Census, 36.5% of Richmond residents were Canadian by birth, 60.2% were immigrants and the remaining 3.3% were non-permanent residents (a person from another country who holds a work or study permit, or who is a refugee claimant). 60% percent of the total immigrant population in Richmond was 25 years or older at time of immigration, while 33.2% was 5-24 years old at time of immigration. Countries of Origin For Recent Immigrants, 2016 Between January 1, 2011, and May 10, 2016, an estimated 15,245 immigrants came to Richmond.
