Over the last thirty years of relentless efforts to make this happen, we have embraced new grounds and opened up new horizons to facilitate the disadvantaged and vulnerable people to bring meaningful and lasting changes in their lives. During this long span, we have adapted with the changing situation and provided the most time-bound effective services especially to the poor and disadvantaged people. Taking into account the government development policies, we are currently implementing a considerable number of projects and programs including micro-finance program through a community focused and people centered approach to accomplish government’s development agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN as a whole. -

Naimur Rahman* Department of Geography and Environmental Science, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur 5400, Bangladesh Abstract Cropping pattern means the proportions of area under various crops at a point of time. This paper provides a comprehensive assessment of crop pattern, crop productivity using climate, water and crop yield models. The existing studies present that climate change models with higher spatial resolution can be a way forward for future projections. Various types of statistics, other secondary data and primary questionnaire method was applied to measure and analysis the problem. The cropping pattern differs from macro to micro region, both in space and time and is governed largely by the physical, cultural and technological factors. For the purpose of agricultural regionalization and planning, it is necessary to divide the area/ region into homogeneous region on some well-defi ned basis. Increased crop production could be expected if the irrigated areas expansion prevails. In addition, it will lead degradation of the environmental phenomenon. The different crop pattern of this region varies the diversifi cation of several discussed strength including soil, erosion, fl ooding, waterlogging, precipitation, source of irrigation and others. -
Status of Fish Species Diversity in Ghaghat River in Northern Bangladesh M

Mostakim ISSN 1025-482X (Print)95 2521-5477 (Online) STATUS OF FISH SPECIES DIVERSITY IN GHAGHAT RIVER IN NORTHERN BANGLADESH M. R. Islam1*, M. Das1, M. N. Mondal2 and G. M. Mostakim3 Abstract Fish species diversity and it’s conservation status of Ghaghat river in northern region of Bangladesh was investigated by field sampling using a taxonomic guide, FishBase data and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) conservation index. The study revealed that a total of 55 species of fishes belonging to 45 genera, 22 families and 9 orders were found in the river. Among the identified fish orders, Cypriniformes was the highest diverse group with 34% species abundance followed by Siluriformes and Perciformes with 24% each. On the other hand, fishes under the orders Beloniformes, Decapoda, and Tetradontiformes were the least abundant (2%). Fish species diversity was found prominent during the monsoon. Based on IUCN conservation index 6(11%), 10(18%) and 7(13%) species in Ghaghat river were identified as critically endangered, endangered and vulnerable respectively. A total 14 types of fishing gear under 8 major groups were found to operate in the studied river, which included some banned gears like gill net and seine net. An effective conservation strategy needs to be developed to stop indiscriminate fishing and to conserve the fish biodiversity in Ghaghat river. Highlights As of 15 June 2020, according to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), there are 90,619 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bangladesh, including1,209 related deaths; Case Fatality Rate (CFR) is 1.33%. On 12 June 2020, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/DGHS introduced “Bangladesh Risk Zone-Based COVID- 19 Containment Implementation Strategy/Guide,” dividing areas in Red, Yellow and Green Zone based on the prevailing risk of the COVID-19 spread. On 13 June 2020, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Coordination Branch issued an Emergency Notification circular with the instructions for the worshipers in the Red Zone areas to offer prayers at their respective homes instead of public place of worship. On 14 June 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) circulated a Note Verbale, which stated that foreign investors and businessmen will be granted on-arrival visas at the port of entry in Bangladesh if he/she has a PCR-based COVID- 19 negative medical certificate (with English translation) and relevant supporting documents for obtaining investment/business visa. -

Bangladesh Page 1 of 20 Bangladesh Country Reports on Human Rights Practices - 2007 Released by the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor March 11, 2008 Bangladesh is a parliamentary democracy of 150 million citizens. Khaleda Zia, head of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), stepped down as prime minister in October 2006 when her five-year term of office expired and transferred power to a caretaker government that would prepare for general elections scheduled for January 22. On January 11, in the wake of political unrest, President Iajuddin Ahmed, the head of state and then head of the caretaker government, declared a state of emergency and postponed the elections. With support from the military, President Ahmed appointed a new caretaker government led by Fakhruddin Ahmed, the former Bangladesh Bank governor. In July Ahmed announced that elections would be held by the end of 2008, after the implementation of electoral and political reforms. While civilian authorities generally maintained effective control of the security forces, these forces frequently acted independently of government authority. The government's human rights record worsened, in part due to the state of emergency and postponement of elections. The Emergency Powers Rules of 2007 (EPR), imposed by the government in January and effective through year's end, suspended many fundamental rights, including freedom of press, freedom of association, and the right to bail. The anticorruption drive initiated by the government, while greeted with popular support, gave rise to concerns about due process. For most of the year the government banned political activities, although this policy was enforced unevenly. -

Economics and Statistics Section, Horticulture Research Centre, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Gazipur, Bangladesh 2Agricultural Economics Division, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Gazipur, Bangladesh 3Horticulture Research Centre, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Gazipur, Bangladesh ABSTRACT The present study was conducted at Bagherpara thana under Jessore district to assess the profitability, contribution of factors to production and changes in socio-economic status of the farmers. About 42% and 21% of total variable cost was incurred for tunnel preparation and using human labour, respectively. The average yield of BARI hybrid tomato was found 32.78 t/ha. The average return per hectare over variable cost is observed to be Tk 11,44,387 on full cost basis and Tk 12,07,481 on cash cost basis. On an average benefit cost ratio was found to be 4.19 on full cost basis and 5.09 on cash cost basis. The cost per kilogram of hybrid tomato cultivation was Tk 10.94 and return from one kilogram of tomato production was Tk 45.83. The functional analysis shows that MP and TSP had positive significant contribution to yield while human labour, hormone, irrigation and seed had negative significant impact on yield of hybrid tomato. The overall socio-economic status of the sample farmers was found increased by 20.33 percent. -
