Educational Committee Field Suitcase Workshop Programs NAWCC Field Suitcase Workshop F104 Overview Weight and Fusee Driven Clocks This four-day clock repair course will focus on one, two and three weight regulators, grandfather and Fusee clocks including tubular and bell chime. The type of clocks a student can bring to this class includes: • English grandfather clocks • American grandfathers including older two weight and modern clocks • German grandfather clocks old and modern • French Morbier, Morez or Comtoise clocks • Vienna regulators • Spring driven Fusee clocks such as the English Bracket and Skeleton We do not recommend Hermle, Urgos & Kininger movements because the manufacturer does not always recommend they be repaired. Clocks must have pendulums; floating balance type escapements are not permitted. Prerequisite: F101, F102 & F103. If the perspective F104 student has not completed F101, F102 & F103, they should not apply for this course. Procedures used in F104 Discussion on benefits of weight driven mechanical clocks The Fusee Whittington and St. Michael Hammer Sequences Initiated by the Pin Barrel. Whittington Chime Melody Whittington Melody Instructor to review movement operation & uniqueness of each clock in class. Instructor will review disassembly procedures Student to study their clock and understand the operation of all trains Remove power from Fusee Movement Disassemble movement Clean Movement The instructor and students to identify components of each clock in class Student to assemble winding drums and/or Fusee wheel Principles of assembling a clock Student to practice assembling their clock Student to make needed repairs taught in F101, F102 & F103 Final movement assembly Oil all chime, time & strike train Assemble front plate components Assemble back plate components Set up initial power on the Fusee mainspring Chime train adjustments Synchronizing the chime melody Strike train adjustments Rack and snail adjustment Start clock on stand to run Adjustments for Recoil Escapement and Dead Beat Escapement Set clock beat and test clock © 1998 NAWCC: Field Suitcase Workshop F104 Overview .
