President’s Message February, what a hectic month!

The month of February will go down as one of the most hectic in my term as your president. On the 4th we all showed up for nightriders. As soon as we got there one of our members experienced a problem with one of the employees in Blockbusters. This was all over our parking in the lot behind their business. When I went into discuss the matter with the individual, I got into a confrontation with him and a customer that was in the store. I decided not to call the St Lucie Police Department when the manager apologized and tried to quiet the whole situation. We then headed to Carbone's Italian Restaurant for a great pizza.

This month, we also started to plan the May Car Show. A trip up to the marina site in Ft Pierce revealed that the farmers market has doubled its size and that the city wished us to move to a nice park a quarter of a mile up along the river. After visiting the site and looking at others, we decided to use the park as they suggested. We thought that we booked the date but later found out that the calendar that the clerk was using was not the "official one". Naturally the date that we wanted was taken back in January. After a lot of discussions we decided to move the date to April 25th, a week before our trip to Sarasota. Now we have at least two weeks less to put the car show together. On the 17th we had our first car show meeting at Josef's. Thanks to everyone who showed up and agreed to help out with the show. Barry Hinken has been putting in a lot of hours planning this event. The rest of the month we will be working on the car show and again please get involved. We can use all the help we can get and it is a lot of fun. Just contact Barry Hinken at 772-485-3488

We were invited to go down and visit the Corvette Club from the Palm Beaches on the 2nd. Due to bad weather, we had to reschedule the event until the 16th. We had a great turnout (24 members and 14 cars) and a nice cruise to Clematis Street. However, when we got there, they also had more members show up than they expected and thus put a heavy strain on the kitchen at Roxy's Restaurant. We did meet some great people and got to see many beautiful corvettes parked on the street. The Palm Beach Club said that they will try and give us a good turnout for our upcoming car show on the 20th.

We had Brunch with Barry with another 30 members and guests coming out for breakfast. I am always looking for great locations so if you have any you want to share, please let me know. .

This is a great club with great cars and great members. Get active. You will be surprised at the fun that you will have. Also if you have any problems, please let me know. I am very interested in what you think and will try and correct any misunderstandings that we might have. Until next time, save the wave! BARRY

NIGHT RIDER

On Wednesday evening February 4th, Club members met behind Block Buster Video at US 1, just North of Port St Lucie Blvd in Port St Lucie, for this month’s Nightrider event. The destination this month was Carbone’s Italian restaurant in Port St Lucie. Thanks to JoAnn Langella who planned this month’s event. ======BRUNCH WITH BARRY

Story courtesy of Barry Bracken

Another Brunch with Barry is History. On Friday, February 20th, 30 people showed up for another cruise to a local restaurant. This time I chose the Vista Grill on Port Saint Lucie Blvd, west of the turnpike. Deanna and I had gone to the restaurant the previous Monday to see how the food was and was impressed by the way that it was presented. I was however worried about the service. I spoke to the owner who assured me that an additional cook would be called in for a "few hours" and that an additional waitress would also be on hand. With this promise I agreed to come to their new establishment with 30 hungry people. I called just before we left blockbusters and again they said that they would be ready.

When we got there, they sat us in a private area and served us a hot cup of coffee and took our orders. The food was served to our table within 15 minutes but the other two tables had to wait for another 20 minutes before they got their meals. This was a great disappointment to me after all my planning.

The Scott's and their friends Tim and Carol, the Hosler's, Dick Kesler, Galinat's, Hinken's, Shaw's, Clegg's, Sterling's, Wyrtzen's, Saxner's, Dan Kikkert, Dillion's, Pazmann's, Ruehman's, Maida's and the Bracken's ordered a variety of breakfast delights and the specials were especially popular.

The food was good but late. I would not take our group back to the Vista Grill in the future. See you next time.

Great friends, great cars, great times. Life is good. BARRY .======

CORVETTE CRUISING AROUND-CONTINUED

CRUISE TO WEST PALM BEACH

Story courtesy of Barry Bracken

What a great night.

On Monday, February 16th, 24 SCC members accepted an invitation from the Corvette Club of the Palm Beaches (CCPB) to visit with them at Roxy's Restaurant on Clematis Street in West Palm Beach. This turnout was a great surprise to me and to the president of the CCPB who welcome us and introduced us to many of their members. In addition, they had Clematis Street closed for the evening with over 70 corvettes on display. Roxy's kitchen was overwhelmed with our 24 members and the great turnout of the host club on this beautiful evening. CCPB recently had new officers elected to the board and the change in the club has brought out many new and old members. They normally have 40 people attend their meetings and this evening over 70 members showed up for the meal and car show.

I think that it is important that we take advantage of getting to know our sister clubs. It gives a chance to meet new friends and see great cars. We will invite them to one of our events in the future.

I want to thank the Hosler's, Colburn's, Galinat's, Tropiano's, Pilla's, Schroll's, Harry Wyrtzen, Joseph Coschera, Wright's, Ruehman's, Labowitz's, William Geary and Louis Stanley for making the event such a success.

Save the Wave!
