According to University of San Francisco President, Father Lohn LoSchiavo, the administration based its decision against renewal of the lease because the Sutro Library occu pies 14,000 square feet of space badly needed by the Gleeson Library for expansion. The Administration also questions how much this facility will be used by the university com munity. For those students unfamiliar with the Sutro Library, a branch of the Cali fornia State Library, it is built around the 100,000 volume collection of rare books Adolf Sutro left the state upon his death. Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

PERFORMERS SUMMER She could sing anything, anywhere, with anyone, at any time. ___________________________________________ By Harry Weinger ___________________________________________ onna Summer is the Queen of Disco. Within a genre that sprouted anonymous voices, Summer, who died on M ay 17, 2012, was prolific, versatile, and deter D mined. Pushing boundaries, she symbolized a time that her work transcended. Her influence, from Madonna to Beyonce, from the invention of the twelve-inch to the whole o f modern EDM , is immeasurable. She was no producer’s puppet: Her association with the production team of Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte was one of collaboration, as she cowrote eight of her fourteen Top Ten pop chart singles. A ninth, “Dim All the Lights,” she wrote on her own. And, of course, Bruce Springsteen wrote a song for her. “Donna never wanted to repeat herself,” said her husband, Bruce Sudano, also a writer, producer, and artist, who met Summer while a member o f the group Brooklyn Dreams. “She always looked for ways to advance her art.” Her stage shows are the stuff of legend — marked by the excess o f the times, with elabo rate sets and costumes, but ultimately soul-satisfying due to Summer’s remarkable perfor mances. Tom Carson, reviewing her concert album Live and More in Rolling Stone in late 1978, wrote that she possessed “a fine, dramatic voice, [with] immense charm and unusually tasteful technical control... Whenever she gets away from the strictures of disco, she can be quite extraordinary.” Those watching up close were equally impressed. “Fuc\!” exclaimed Elton John, an unabashed fan, as he was about to headline a benefit concert where she was performing.

WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 23, 2015 “Loss Is A Major Driving Force Of The Work: A Loss Of People, A Loss Of Places, A Loss Of Innocence” By Visual-AIDS Gabriel Martinez, "Untitled Series (Atlas Club)", prismacolor on archival inkjet print, (unique print), 16.5" x 21.5", 2014 Alex Fiorentino responds to and interviews Gabriel Martinez about his recent exhibition " Bayside Revisited" at The Print Center in Philadelphia: The series of recent work by photographer Gabriel Martinez presents his deep nostalgia for a bygone era, a time of sexual liberation for gay men in America that found its oasis not only in the clubs and on the docks in New York City, but in the utopia of sun-bleached wood, white sand beaches and oiled bodies of Fire Island. Here, isolated from the mores of the straight world, pure hedonism could abound between men, as disco music played long into the night and beautiful naked forms copulated in and out of doors. A series of small, framed collages flank the entry of the exhibit, using ephemera from 1969 to 1981 collected from the Wilcox Archive at the William Way LGBT Center, mere blocks from the gallery. These images consist of ads for bathhouses, clubs, and porn theaters, all related not only to publications for gay men, but queer spaces in which gay men were able to act on sexual desires. These are at once flamboyant in their bright Prismacolor kaleidoscope, but also suggest a coloring book, one that Martinez thinks would teach the younger generation a thing or two: “I was kind of thinking about myself and my role as an artist right now, as a middle-aged artist, as a mid- career artist, as a kind of narrator, a kind of conduit from the older generation passing on information from the older generation and translating it for the younger generation, because I felt that sometimes the younger queer generation isn’t as informed as they should be, as to the struggles that led to this period where we’re at now, talking about equality, and there were a lot of folks back in the 70s that gave their lives to create the freedoms we are experiencing now.
