NOTE TO CLERGY: Remember to include this special petition in all Great Litanies before the one for the head of state, as directed by the Antiochian Archdiocese. Deacon: For Metropolitan Paul, Archbishop John, and for their quick release from captivity and safe return, let us pray to the Lord. Choir: Lord, have mercy.

1.) We say the Sunset Psalm 104(103)

2.) We chant “O Lord, I have cried ...” in Tone 4 with ten stichera: Six stichera for the Resurrection from the (Nassar, 160; Kazan, Vesp., 45) Four stichera for the Holy Fathers in Tone 6 (Nassar, 558; Kazan, July Men., 3)

Tone 4 Resurrection (Nassar, 160; Kazan, Vesp., 45)

Verse 10: Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise Thy name.

We worship untiringly thy quickening Cross, O Christ God, and glorify thy third-day Resurrection; for by it, O Almighty, thou hast renewed the corrupt nature of mankind, and made plain to us the ascent to heaven;. for thou alone art good and the Lover of mankind.

Verse 9: The righteous shall wait for me until Thou recompense me.

When Thou wast willingly nailed upon the Cross, O Savior, Thou solvest the problem caused by the tree of sin. And when Thou didst descend into hades, Thou didst break the bonds of death, since Thou art a mighty God. Wherefore, we worship, thy Resurrection from the dead, shouting with joy, O Almighty Lord, glory to thee.

Verse 8: Out of the depths have I cried to Thee, O Lord, Lord hear my voice.

Thou, didst demolish by thy Death, O Lord, the gates of hades; Thou didst dissolve the realm of death; and didst free the human race from corruption, granting the world life and incorruptibility and Great Mercy.

1 July 13, 2014, Sunday of the Holy Fathers of Fourth Ecumenical Council Tone 4 Eothinon 5

Verse 7: Let Thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.

Come, ye nations, let us praise the third-day Resurrection of the Savior, by which we were delivered from the unbreakable bonds of hades, and by which we have all received life and incorruption, crying, O thou who wast crucified, buried, and who didst rise, save us by thy Resurrection, O thou only Lover of mankind.

Verse 6: If Thou, O Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? For with Thee there is forgiveness.

Verily, the angels and men, O Savior, praise Thy third-day Resurrection, through which the ends of the universe have been lighted, and by which thou hast redeemed from bondage to the enemy us who cry, saying, O omnipotent Giver of life, save us by thy Resurrection) O Lover of mankind.

Verse 5: Because of Thy name have I waited for Thee, O Lord; my soul hath waited upon Thy word, my soul hath hoped in the Lord.

Thou hast demolished the brazen gates, O Christ God, and hast shattered the bars, and hast raised the fallen human race and made it to stand upright. Wherefore, do we shout to thee in unison, O thou rising from the dead, O Lord, glory to thee.

Tone 6 - (**Ere the morning star**) Holy Fathers (Nassar, 558; Kazan, July Men., 3) Verse 4: From the morning watch until night, from the morning watch let Israel trust in the Lord.

O Philanthropic Word, boundless and indescribable, having become incarnate for our sake, the solemn assembly of the wise Fathers proclaimed Thee, that Thou art perfect God and perfect Man, complete, dual of Nature and acts, and dual also of Will, and that Thou Thyself art one in Person. Wherefore, having known Thee as one God with the Father and the Spirit we worship Thee in faith, blessing them.

Verse 3: For with the Lord there is mercy and with Him is abundant redemption, and He will deliver Israel from all His iniquities.

O glorified ones, verily ye did refute Pyrrhus, Sergius, Honorius, Eutyches, Dioscorus, with Nestor the ugly, saving the flock of Christ from the fall of either side, proclaiming Christ aloud as dual in Nature and one in Person, manifest in acts alone. Him, therefore, we worship with the Father and the Spirit, perfect God and perfect Man, and honor you with glory.

Verse 2: Praise the Lord, all ye nations. Praise Him, all ye people.

Those God-mantled blessed ones, assembled together, wisely declared that the divine act, the act of Him Who humbled Himself in our flesh, and His divine Will are uncreated, becoming fashioned to the human act and human will to escape the confusion of His Nature and the division of His Person. Wherefore, we believers honor them in annual feasts, glorifying in unison Christ Who glorified them.

Verse 1: For His mercy is great towards us, and the truth of the Lord endureth forever.

2 July 13, 2014, Sunday of the Holy Fathers of Fourth Ecumenical Council Tone 4 Eothinon 5

Those God-mantled Fathers have proclaimed today in concert that the uncreated Trinity is one God and one Lord, explaining to all the agreement of the simplicity of the one Nature through participation of the will, and the simplicity of the deed, and defining all as without beginning and without end. Wherefore, we glorify them, as being like to the Apostles and teaching their Gospel to all.

Tone 6 Doxasticon for the Holy Fathers (Nassar, 313; Kazan, July Men., 8) Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Let us extol today those mystical trumpets of the Spirit, namely the God-mantled Fathers, who, speaking of divine things, sang in the midst of the Church a hymn of unified tones, teaching that the Trinity is One, not differing in Substance or Godhead, refuting Arius and contending for Orthodoxy, who ever intercede with the Lord to have mercy on our souls.

Tone 4 Theotokion for the Resurrection (Nassar, 161; Kazan, Vesp., 56) Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages, Amen

David the Prophet who became through thee, O , the grandparent of God, before time sang of thee in praise, and shouted to him who worked wonders through thee, saying, The queen did rise on thy right; for God hath shown thee to be a Mother bringing forth life, in that he was willing to appear incarnate from thee without father, renewing the creation of his likeness, corrupt with suffering, in order to find the sheep lost in the hills, and carry it on his shoulders, and offer it to the Father, and add it, through his will, to the heavenly hosts, and to save the whole world; for he is the reigning Christ, Possessor of rich and Great Mercy.

3.) The is made with the censer, and we chant "O gladsome Light ..." followed by the Prokeimenon "The Lord is King ..." in Tone 6 with its stichoi.

Saturday Prokeimenon In Tone Six

Deacon: The Evening Prokeimenon! Choir (Refrain): The Lord is King, and hath clothed Himself with majesty. (ONCE) Verse 1: The Lord is robed; He is girded with strength. (Refrain) Verse 2: For He has established the world so that it shall never be moved. (Refrain)

The Old Testament Passages

The First Reading: Genesis (14:14-20). Deacon: Wisdom! Reader: The Reading from Genesis (14:14-20). Deacon: Let us attend! Reader: When Abram heard that his kinsman had been taken captive, he led forth his trained men, born in his house, 318 of them, and went in pursuit as far as Dan. And he divided his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and routed them and pursued them to 3 July 13, 2014, Sunday of the Holy Fathers of Fourth Ecumenical Council Tone 4 Eothinon 5

Hobah, north of Damascus. Then he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his kinsman Lot with his goods, and the women and the people. After his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley). And Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine; he was priest of God Most High. And he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, maker of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!”

The Second Reading: Deuteronomy (1:8-11, 15-17) Deacon: Wisdom! Reader: The Reading from Deuteronomy (1:8-11, 15-17). Deacon: Let us attend! Reader: Behold, I have set the land before you; go in and take possession of the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them and to their descendants after them. At that time I said to you, “I am not able alone to bear you; the Lord your God has multiplied you, and behold, you are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.” May the Lord, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times as many as you are, and bless you, as He has promised you! So I took the heads of your tribes, wise and experienced men, and set them as heads over you, commanders of thousands, commanders of hundreds, commanders of fifties, commanders of tens, and officers, throughout your tribes. And I charged your judges at that time: “Hear the cases between your brethren, and judge righteously between a man and his brother, or the alien that is with him. You shall not be partial in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike; you shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God’s.”

The Third Reading: Deuteronomy (10:14-21) Deacon: Wisdom! Reader: The Reading from Deuteronomy (10:14-21). Deacon: Let us attend! Reader: Behold, to the Lord your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth with all that is in it; yet the Lord set His heart in love upon your fathers and chose their descendants after them, you above all peoples, as at this day. Circumcise, therefore, the foreskin of your heart, and be no longer stubborn. For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, Who is not partial and takes no bribe. He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing. Love the sojourner, therefore; for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt. You shall fear the Lord your God; you shall serve Him and cleave to Him, and by His Name you shall swear. He is your praise; He is your God, Who has done for you these great and terrible things which your eyes have seen.

4 July 13, 2014, Sunday of the Holy Fathers of Fourth Ecumenical Council Tone 4 Eothinon 5

4.) At the Aposticha, we chant four stichera for the Resurrection from the Octoechos in Tone 4

Tone 4 When thou wast lifted up upon the Cross, O Lord, thou didst expunge our ancestral curse; and when thou didst descend to hades, thou didst free those who were bound from eternity, granting the human race incorruptibility. Wherefore, we offer praise, glorifying Thy third-day Resurrection.

Verse 1: The Lord is King and hath put on glorious apparel, The Lord hath put on His apparel and hath girt Himself with strength.

O Thou who alone art mighty, when thou wast fastened upon a Tree, thou didst shake the whole earth; and when thou wast laid in the grave, thou didst raise those who lay in the graves, granting mankind life and incorruptibility. Wherefore, we offer praise, glorifying thy third-day Resurrection.

Verse 2: For He hath established the world so that it shall never be moved.

The law-transgressing people, O Christ, delivered thee to Pilate, who condemned thee to crucifixion. Thus the ingrate appeared before his Benefactor. But thou sufferedst burial willingly, and didst rise on the third day by Thine own power; for thou art God, granting us endless and Great Mercy.

Verse 3: Holiness becometh Thy house, O Lord, forever.

Verily, the women reached Thy tomb seeking thee with tears. And when they found thee not they shouted and wailed, saying, Woe to us O our Savior, King of all, how wast thou stolen? And what place containeth Thy life-bearing body? And an angel answered them, saying, Weep not, but go preach that the Lord hath risen, granting us joy; for He alone is compassionate.

Tone 3 Doxasticon for the Holy Fathers (Nassar, 559; Kazan, July, Men, 10) Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Ye have become, O Holy Fathers, conscientious keepers of the Apostolic traditions; for, having believed in the consubstantiality of the Holy Trinity with Orthodox opinion, ye did refute the blasphemy of Arius in council. Then, after rebuking Macedonius, the combater against the Spirit, ye destroyed Nestor, Eutyches, Dioscorus, Sabellius and Severus, the headless one. Wherefore, we implore ye to seek for us deliverance from their error, and that our life be kept blameless in faith from every pollution.

Tone 3 Theotokion for the Resurrection (Nassar, 154) Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages, Amen

Thou didst verily conceive by the Holy Spirit, without human seed, at the pleasure of the Father, the Son of God, begotten of the Father before eternity without mother. Thou didst give birth to Him in the flesh coming of thee, for our sake, without father. Wherefore, cease not to intercede that He may deliver our souls from affliction.

5 July 13, 2014, Sunday of the Holy Fathers of Fourth Ecumenical Council Tone 4 Eothinon 5

5.) St. Simeon's Prayer and Holy God…

6.) At the Apolytikia, we chant:

Tone 4 The Resurrection from the Octoechos (Nassar, 162; Kazan Vesp., 167)

Having learned the joyful message of the Resurrection from the angel, the women Disciples cast from them their parental condemnation, and proudly broke the news to the Disciples, saying, Death hath been spoiled. Christ God is risen, granting the world Great Mercy.

Tone 8 The Holy Fathers (Nassar, 314; Kazan, July Men., 12) Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Thou, O Christ, art our God of exceeding praise Who didst establish our Holy Fathers as luminous stars upon earth, and through them didst guide us unto the true Faith, O most merciful One, glory to Thee.

Tone 8 Theotokion of the Resurrection (Nassar, 193; Kazan Vesp., 176) Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Thou Who for our sake wast born of a Virgin, and didst suffer crucifixion, O good One, and didst despoil death through death, and as God didst reveal Resurrection. Despise not those Whom Thou hast created with Thine own hand, show forth Thy love for mankind, O merciful One. Accept the intercessions of Thy mother, the Theotokos for us, and save Thy despairing people, O our Savior.

7.) At the Great Dismissal, the priest says, “May He Who rose from the dead, Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-immaculate and all-blameless holy Mother,” ... “Through the prayers…”

6 July 13, 2014, Sunday of the Holy Fathers of Fourth Ecumenical Council Tone 4 Eothinon 5

ORTHROS

NOTE TO CLERGY: Remember to include this special petition in all Great Litanies before the one for the head of state, as directed by the Antiochian Archdiocese. Deacon: For Metropolitan Paul, Archbishop John, and for their quick release from captivity and safe return, let us pray to the Lord. Choir: Lord, have mercy.

1.) At the beginning of Orthros the Troparia and Theotokion (“O Lord, save Thy people... Do Thou who of Thine own good will... O champion dread...”) are always said/intoned and are NEVER chanted.

2.) All six of the Orthros Psalms must be said in their entirety. (Note: In the Kazan volume for Orthros, there is an omission in the first introductory stichos. It should read, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.” Please make this correction in your books.)

3.) After the Litany of Peace and the exclamation “For unto Thee are due…” Chant “God is the Lord…” with its stichoi

Tone 4 “God is the Lord” Choir (Refrain): God is the Lord Who hath shown us light. Blessed is He that cometh in the Name of the Lord. Verse 1: O give thanks unto the Lord and call upon His Holy Name. (Refrain) Verse 2: All nations compassed me about: but in the Name of the Lord will I destroy them. (Refrain) Verse 3: This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. (Refrain)

The Resurrection from the Octoechos (Nassar, 162; Kazan Sun. Mat, 18)

7 July 13, 2014, Sunday of the Holy Fathers of Fourth Ecumenical Council Tone 4 Eothinon 5

4.) The Little Litany is intoned with the exclamation “For Thine is the might...”

5.) The Kathismata are all from the Octoechos. Tone 4 – Plain Reading (Nassar, 163; Kazan Sun. Mat., 36) The prescribes that, when the Theotokion for the tone of the week is not used at the Apolytikia, it is moved to the first Kathisma.

First Kathisma The ointment-bearing women glanced into the entrance of the tomb; and, because they could not bear the brilliance of the angel, they trembled in astonishment, saying, Hath He been stolen Who opened paradise to the thief? Or is He risen, Who before His Passion didst preach Resurrection? Verily, Christ God hath risen, granting Resurrection and life to those who are in Hades.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Thou hast suffered crucifixion willingly, O Savior, and mortal men placed in a new tomb Thee Who didst establish the corners of the world with a word. Therefore, hath death the stranger been bound and taken captive, being defeated. And all those in Hades, cried out through Thy reviving Resurrection, Verily, Christ the Life-giver is risen; for He is everlastingly constant.

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

The Mystery which was hidden from everlasting and was unknown of the angels, O Theotokos, was revealed through thee, to those who dwell upon earth. In that God, having become incarnate—in unconfused union—of His own good will accepted the Cross for our sake. Whereby He raised again the first created, and hath saved our souls from death.

Second Kathisma Thou didst rise from the tomb, O Christ Savior, our God, because Thou art deathless; and Thou didst raise with Thee Thy world by Thy Resurrection, and didst crush the might of death, proclaiming Resurrection to all. Wherefore, do we glorify Thee, O Thou Who alone art merciful and the Lover of mankind.

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

Gabriel descended from his sublime height wrapped in a white robe, and came to the stone where the Rock of Life was, and he shouted to the weeping women, saying, Cease your wailing and crying, and receive ye smiling joy, with comfort; for He whom ye seek weeping is verily risen. Wherefore, go and proclaim to the Apostles that the Lord is risen.

8 July 13, 2014, Sunday of the Holy Fathers of Fourth Ecumenical Council Tone 4 Eothinon 5

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

All the ranks of the angels, O thou who art undefiled, have been dazzled by the secret of thy dreadful birth-giving; that the All-encompassing at a sign from Him was encompassed in thy bosom as a babe, and that He Who is before eternity received a temporal beginning, and that He who feedeth every living breath with His ineffable goodness was nourished with milk. Wherefore, did they glorify thee with praise; for thou art truly the Theotokos.

6.) Benedictions (Evlogetaria) in Tone 5.

7.) The Little Litany is intoned with the exclamation “For blessed is Thy Name ...”

8.) The Hypakoë, Anabathmoi and the Prokeimenon with its accompanying stichos are all from the Octoechos Tone 4. – Plain Reading (Nassar, 164; Kazan, Sun. Mat., 52).

9.) The 5th Eothinon Gospel (Nassar, 205) is chanted from the Holy Table.

10.) Following "In that we have beheld the Resurrection of Christ ..." (Nassar, 113; Serv. Bk., 66; Kazan Sun. Mat., 66) **In the last line of this prayer in several Archdiocesan publications, there is an erroneous omission. It should read: “for in that He endured the Cross for us, He hath destroyed death by death.”

11.) Psalm 50 (Nassar, 82; Serv. Bk., 66; Kazan Sun. Mat., 66)

12.) Troparia following Psalm 50 (Serv. Bk., 67; Kazan Sun. Mat., 67-8)

13.) The Intercession then follows.

14.) Read the & Oikos, then the Synaxarion

Kontakion & Oikos for Holy Fathers Sunday (Plain Reading) The preaching of the Apostles and the doctrines of the Fathers confirmed the one Faith in the Church. And wearing the garment of truth woven from the theology on high, she rightly divideth and glorifieth the great mystery of piety.

In the lofty preaching of the Church of God, let us hearken as she crieth: He that thirsteth, let him come and drink. The cup which I bear is the cup of wisdom. Its drink have I mixed with the word of truth. I pour forth the water, not of contention, but of confession. As Israel doth now drink thereof, it beholdeth God, Who saith: See, see, that I am He, and have not changed. I am God, I am first, and I am hereafter, and besides Me there is no other. Hence, they that partake shall be filled, and shall praise the great mystery of piety.

The Synaxarion (Plain Reading) On July 13 in the Holy Orthodox Church, we celebrate the Synaxis of the Archangel Gabriel and all of his appearances and miracles. We commemorate the Venerable Stephen of Mar Sabbas monastery and Heliophotos; and Martyr Golinduch of Persia.

On this Sunday, we commemorate the 630 holy and God-bearing Fathers of the Fourth Ecumenical Council, which convened in Chalcedon in 451 against the Monophysites. 9 July 13, 2014, Sunday of the Holy Fathers of Fourth Ecumenical Council Tone 4 Eothinon 5

Verses Shunning opposite errors like the sea monsters Scylla and Charybdis, The Fathers steer the Church on a straight course to safety.

The Holy Fathers were, once again, concerned with the nature of Jesus Christ. The false teaching arose that Christ’s human nature (considered by heretics as less perfect) dissolved itself in His divine nature (considered by heretics as more perfect): like a cube of sugar in a parcel of water. Thus, in that scenario, Christ had only one nature, the Divine. These false preachers were called Monophysites (“mono”, meaning “one” and “physis”, meaning “nature”), and they were led by Eutyches and Dioscorus. Monophysitism overemphasized the divine nature of Christ, at the expense of the human. The Fourth Ecumenical Council condemned Monophysitism and proclaimed that Christ has two complete natures: the divine and the human, as defined by previous Councils. These two natures function as equally perfect, without confusion, and are neither divided nor separate. The Fathers declared that at no time did they undergo any change. By the intercessions of Thy Saints, O Christ God, have mercy upon us. Amen.

15.) Katabasias for the in Tone 4 (Nassar, 114; Serv. Bk., 68; Kazan Mat., 72) Tone 4 Ode 1. I shall open my mouth and it will be filled with the Spirit; and I shall speak forth to the Queen and Mother. I shall be seen joyfully singing her praises, and I shall delight to sing of her wonders. Ode 3. As a living and copious fountain, O Theotokos, do thou strengthen those who hymn thy praises, and are joined together in spiritual company for thy service; and in thy divine glory make them worthy of crowns of glory. Ode 4. He Who sits in clouds of glory upon the throne of Godhead, Jesus the most high God, came with mighty hand and saved those who cried out unto Him: Glory to Thy power, O Christ. Ode 5. All creation was amazed at thy divine glory, for thou, O unwedded Virgin, didst hold in thee the God of all, and didst bear the Eternal Son, Who rewards with salvation all those who hymn thy praises. Ode 6. As we the Godly-minded, celebrate this divine and all-honorable feast of the Mother of God: come, let us clap our hands together and glorify the God Whom she bore. Ode 7. The Godly-minded children worshipped not the creature rather than the Creator, but trampling upon the threat of fire in manly fashion, they rejoiced and sang: O All-praised Lord and God of our Fathers, blessed art Thou. We praise, we bless, and we worship the Lord. Ode 8. The three holy children in the furnace the Child of the Theotokos saved; then was the type, now is its fulfillment, and the whole world gathers to sing: All ye works praise the Lord and magnify Him unto all ages. 16.) Magnification "More honorable…" with its verses; (Serv. Bk., 70; Kazan Sun. Mat., 76)

Verse: My soul doth magnify the Lord; and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior.

Refrain: More honorable than the Cherubim, and more glorious beyond compare than the Seraphim: thou who without stain bearest God the Word, and art truly Theotokos, we magnify thee.

10 July 13, 2014, Sunday of the Holy Fathers of Fourth Ecumenical Council Tone 4 Eothinon 5

Verse: For he hath regarded the lowliness of his handmaid; for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. (Refrain)

Verse: For he that is mighty hath magnified me, and holy is His Name; and His mercy is on them that fear him, throughout all generations. (Refrain)

Verse: He hath showed strength in his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. (Refrain)

Verse: He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble and the meek. He hath filled the empty with good things, and the rich hath he sent away empty. (Refrain)

Verse: He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel, as he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed forever. (Refrain)

17.) Ninth Katabasia of the Akathist Canon

Tone 4 Ode 9. Let all the earth-born mortals rejoice in the Spirit, bearing their lamps. And let the nature of bodiless Minds celebrate with honor the holy festival of the Mother of God, and cry out: Hail! All- blessed, pure, and ever-virgin Theotokos!

18.) The Little Litany is intoned with the exclamation "For all the powers of heaven..."

19.) Exaposteilaria we chant “Holy is the Lord our God. (thrice) … Exalt ye the Lord our God and worship at His footstool for He is holy.” Then we chant the following:

Tone 2 Eothinon 5 (Nassar, 206; Kazan Sun. Mat., 90)

Verily, Christ who is the Way and the Life, after His Resurrection from the dead, accompanied Luke and Cleopas, who had recognized Him at Emmaus, in the breaking of the bread, whose hearts and souls were inflamed as He spake to them in the way, explaining to them from the books about all that He had suffered. Let us, therefore, shout with them crying, Verily, the Lord hath risen and appeared unto Peter.

Tone 2 - (**Hearken, ye women**) The Exaposteilarion & Theotokion of Holy Fathers

By celebrating today the memorial of the divine Fathers, O all-compassionate Lord, we implore Thee, through their petitions to deliver Thy people from the harm from all heretics, making us all worthy to glorify the Father, the Word, and the All-Holy Spirit.

O all-blameless one, thou didst give birth in an ineffable manner to God in two Natures, two Wills and one Person, Who humbled Himself by His own will unto crucifixion, granting us the richness of the Godhead by His Resurrection from the dead.

11 July 13, 2014, Sunday of the Holy Fathers of Fourth Ecumenical Council Tone 4 Eothinon 5

19.) Praises (Ainoi) in Tone 4with eight stichera: Four stichera for the Resurrection (Nassar, 165; Kazan, Sun. Mat., 127) Four prosomia for the Holy Fathers in Tone 6 (Nassar, 314; Kazan, July Men., 15)

Tone 4 Resurrection from the Octoechos (Nassar, 165)

Verse 8: This glory shall be to all His saints.

We glorify thy Resurrection, O Lord Almighty, O thou who sufferedst crucifixion and death and didst rise from the dead.

Verse 7: Praise God in His sanctuary: praise Him in the firmament of His power.

Thou hast freed us, O Christ, from the first curse. And by thy Death thou didst banish the insurgency of Diabolus prevailing over our nature. And in thy Resurrection thou didst fill all with joy. Wherefore, we cry to thee, O thou Lord, who didst rise from the dead; glory to thee.

Verse 6: Praise Him for His mighty acts: praise Him according to His excellent greatness.

O Christ Savior, who didst rise from the dead, lead us by thy Cross to thy right hand, and save us from the sins of the enemy. Stretch forth thine arm and raise us who are fallen in sins; through the intercession of thy saints, O Lord, the Lover of mankind.

Verse 5: Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet: praise Him with the psaltery and harp.

O Only Son of God, thou didst come to earth, but wast not separated from the Paternal bosom; and because of thy love to mankind thou didst become unchangeable man. Thou didst suffer crucifixion and death in the flesh, O thou who in thy Divinity suffereth not. Thou didst rise from the dead, granting mankind immortality; for thou alone art Almighty.

Tone 6 - (**Having laid up all their hope **) Holy Fathers (Nassar, 314; Kazan, July Men., 15) Verse 4: Praise him with the timbrel and dance; praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

Having indited the whole knowledge of the soul and considered it carefully in the Holy Spirit, the venerable, glorified, and all-blessed Fathers inscribed in divine writing the honorable and heavenly Canon, in which they clearly teach that the Word is co-eternal and consubstantial with the Father, thus following unmistakably the teachings of the Apostles.

Verse 3: Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high-sounding cymbals. Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord.

12 July 13, 2014, Sunday of the Holy Fathers of Fourth Ecumenical Council Tone 4 Eothinon 5

Verse 2: Blessed art Thou, O Lord, the God of our Fathers; and praised and glorified is Thy Name forever.

When the blessed Christ-preachers received wholly the torch of the Holy Spirit, they spoke with divine intuition, with supernatural inspiration of few words and much meaning, bringing to the front the evangelical doctrines and traditions of true worship, which, when they were clearly revealed to them from on high, they were illuminated therewith, establishing the Faith they had received from God.

Verse 1: Assemble His holy ones before Him, all those who have made a covenant with Him by sacrifice.

Verily, the divine shepherds, being favored servants of God and all-honored initiates of the divine preaching, having attained fully the experience of shepherding, and having now most justly waxed wroth, in a judgment of truth, expelled from the perfection of the Church the devouring, destructive wolves, and stoned them with the sling-shot of the Spirit. Wherefore, they fell as unto death; for they were blighted with an incurable disease.

Tone 8 Holy Fathers (Nassar, 315; Kazan, July Men., 20) Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

When the rank of the Holy Fathers flocked from the ends of the inhabited world, they believed in one Substance and one Nature of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, delivering plainly to the Church the mystery of discoursing in theology. Wherefore, in that we laud them in faith, we beatify them, saying: What a divine army, ye God-inspired soldiers of the camp of the Lord, ye most brilliant luminaries in the noetic firmament, ye impregnable towers of the mystical Zion, ye scented flowers of paradise, the golden lights of the Word, the boast of Nicaea, and the delight of the whole universe, intercede ceaselessly for our souls.

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Most blessed art thou, O Virgin Theotokos, for through Him that was incarnate of thee is Hades despoiled, Adam is recalled from the dead, the curse is made void, Eve is set free, death is slain, and we are endowed with life. Wherefore, in hymns of praise, we cry aloud: Blessed art thou, O Christ our God, who is thus well pleased, glory to thee.

20.) Great Doxology - Tone 8 (Serv. Bk.,75-6; Kazan Sun. Mat., 225, Nassar, 118) 21.) : "Today is salvation…", Tone 4 (Serv. Bk., 76)

Tone 4 Today is salvation come into the world. Let us sing praises to Him who arose from the grave, the Author of our life; for having by Death destroyed death, He hath given us victory and Great Mercy.
