Key words: longhorn bee, fi rst record, pollinators, Tetralonia salicariae The longhorn bee tribe Eucerini is one of the most species-rich tribes in the family Apidae, with approximately 780 species distributed widely over most regions of the world, excluding Australia (Ascher and Pickering 2016, Michener 2007). The distri- bution area of the longhorn bee extends from Portugal Southern and Central Europe, Asia Minor and the Caucasus to Uzbekistan and Western Siberia (Scheuchl and Will- ner 2016). The longhorn bee tribe Euceriniis a diverse, widely distributed group of solitary bees that includes important pollinators of both wild and agricultural plants. Although Tetralonia is a well-known genus name in the Apidae (tribe Eucerini), hun- dreds of species having been described or placed in it at various times, its identity has remained in doubt because its type species has not been understood. Tetralonia salicariae is classifi ed diff erently by taxonomists: anyone who assigns them to the genus Eucera calls them Eucera salicariae, who puts them in the subge- nus Tetralonia, says Eucera (Tetralonia) salicariae, and who according to Michener (2007) postulated an independent genus Tetraloniella, they calls Tetraloniella sali- cariae. -

Gonzalez2, Michael S. Engel3, & Charles D. Michener3 Abstract. A brief account of the life and career of Wallace Edmund LaBerge (1927–2013) is pre- sented along with a compilation of his publications and taxa proposed. In total 326 publications and 1 family-group, 46 genus-group, and 206 species-group names are listed, as well as seven cases of eponymy. This issue is dedicated to the memory of Wallace Edmund LaBerge (Fig. 1) (7 Feb- ruary 1927–22 July 2013), an American entomologist best known for his monumental works on the systematics of Andrena Fabricius (Andrenidae) and Melissodes Latreille (Apidae). We commemorate his life by presenting a brief account of his career as well as a summary of his contributions to melittological science. LaBerge was born in Grafton, North Dakota, and obtained both his Bachelor and Master degrees in Zoology from the nearby University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, in 1949 and 1951, respectively, and developed an interest in the systematics of ants (Formicidae). He was the second of seven children and married Elizabeth “Betty” LaMont, a native of Grafton, on 9 August 1958. Following his M.Sc. degreee, LaBerge was hired as research assistant at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, under the super- vision of Charles D. Michener. LaBerge enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Entomology and was initially interested in continuing his ant studies from North Dakota. -

The Eucera complex (Apidae: Eucerini), which traditionally included the genus Eucera and a few other related genera comprises a large complex in which generic boundaries have long remained unsettled. Based on comprehensive phylogenetic analyses, a recent study completely reorganized the generic classifcation of the group. Unexpectedly, both morphological and molecular analyses indicated that the taxon known as the venusta-group of the Eucera subgenus Synhalonia is in fact an isolated early diverging lineage, distantly related to Synhalonia. The only three species currently known in the venusta-group are endemic to arid and semi-arid habitats of the southwestern USA and Baja California in Mexico, and are relatively rare in entomological collections. Here we recognize a new genus: Protohalonia Dorchin gen.n., compare its morphology with related genera, and present a revision and identifcation keys for the three species included. We reexamine the phylogenetic position of the new genus based on our previously published molecular and morphological datasets, which we supplement with data for the remaining Protohalonia species. -
