Each unit contains a subunit on composition activities and eight sample thematic subunits for literature study. The guide is printed and perfect-bound with a paper cover. OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES: Each subunit on composition lists specific skill objectives and several related activities, Examples of skill objectives are discriminating between fact and opinion, using sentence variety, and using transitional devices. Activities listed in the thematic literature subunits include discussion, oral reports, individual research projects, and role playing. A number of activities in each subunit require the use of tape recorders or video equipment. Examples of unit topics are "What Price Prejudice," Who Am I?," "Challenge of the Unknown," and "War and Its Disillusionment." INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: Resources needed for each thematic unit are listed in the unit. They include a wide variety of novels, short stories, bibliographies, plays, poetry, essays, films, and records. STUDENT ASSESSMENT: No mention.
