As part of its mission to reduce fatalities and injuries, since model year 2001 NHTSA has included rollover information as part of its NCAP ratings. One of the primary means of assessing rollover risk is the static stability factor (SSF), a measurement of a vehicle’s resistance to rollover. The higher the SSF, the lower the rollover risk.

  • Kenosha Engine Plant Investigation and Cleanup
Kenosha Engine Plant Investigation & Cleanup RR-894 February 2017 The former Chrysler Engine Plant property is located in the heart of Kenosha in southeast Wisconsin. The plant first opened for automobile production in 1902 under Thomas B. Jeffery and was part of Kenosha’s long-standing history in auto manufacturing, later housing Nash Motors and American Motors Company. The Kenosha Engine Plant property is 107 acres in size. Approximately 3,700 residential-related properties – of which 2,400 are single-family homes – and eight schools are located within one-half mile of the plant. Its general boundaries are: 52nd Street to the north; 60th Street to the south; 24th Avenue to the east; and 30th Avenue to the west. Over the years, a series of mergers and buyouts changed the company name several times – Nash Motors, Nash- Kelvinator and American Motors are a few examples. Eventually the Chrysler Corporation bought the site, and in 1998 Chrysler itself was bought by DaimlerAG, which owned the site until 2007, when Cerberus Capital Management bought the company. After manufacturing automobiles and automobile parts for over 100 years, the plant was a casualty of the 2009 recession and was shut down in the fall of 2010, after the A sign describing the history of auto production in Chrysler Corporation declared bankruptcy. Kenosha on the fence outside the Kenosha Engine Plant (photo courtesy DNR). Old Carco, a liquidation bankruptcy trust, owned the property after the Chrysler bankruptcy proceedings were finalized in May 2010. A settlement agreement, filed in the US Bankruptcy Court in October 2011, was reached with the state of Wisconsin, the city of Kenosha, the United States Government, JP Morgan Chase Bank (the first lien holder of the property), and the Old Carco Liquidation Trust.

Nash Healey December 2012 Newsletter Merry Christmas To AllTo All 2012 Glenmoor Gathering of Signifigant Automobiles Photos of Reggie Nash and his beautiful 1951 Nash Healey at the Glenmoor Gathering of Signifigant Automobiles held in Canton, Ohio September 14 – 16. This is an invitation only event which features rare and outstanding automobiles Concours d Elegance Zoute Grand Prix Knokke-Zoute Belgium JAN DYCK of Belgium participated in this October 6, 2012 event. His car was awarded the honor of being chosen as the promotional vehicle for the 2013 Event As a lot of the Nash Healey Owners will know, there were 3 push rod cylinder heads with Hemispherical shaped combustion chambers made for the Nash Healey race cars that ran at the 24 hours of LeMans. I have attached an article from the November 1952 Road and Track magazine with the history of same. The head was designed and produced in England and while it produced a giant horsepower increase it failed to finish the 24 hour endurance race as explained in the article. The head is a cross flow design with six separate (flat 1.5") intake ports with two studs each on the right side and six separate exhaust ports of the same design on left side. Both the intake and exhaust ports and valves are much larger than the normal N/H cylinder head could accomodate and should be able to breathe for an engine to near 300 HP. The exhaust valves are operated via a transverse push rod crossing the head to the exhaust rocker arm on the left side of the head.

  • AN AMERICAN MOTORS HOME LIBRARY by Patrick R Foster
AN AMERICAN MOTORS HOME LIBRARY by Patrick R Foster For years I've collected AMC-related books and have accumulated a substantial library. As an aid to others in the hobby who may share an interest in books, I’ve compiled a list of AMC-related books, both in print and out. AMC hobbyists interested in reading more about their cars and the companies that built them will find useful information in these books. The books listed as 'Out Of Print' are generally no longer available through regular stores or catalogs, but can be found at flea markets, AMC swap meets, and through my used book service. The books listed as "In Print" are generally available at the time of this writing, although several have been on the market for a while and may be nearly sold out. Most of these books can be purchased at The Olde Milford Press- www.oldemilfordpress.com BOOKS OUT OF PRINT: AMAZING AMC MUSCLE 1968-1974- by Edrie Marquez, is a softbound history of AMC performance cars and racing cars. • Four Engineers Share Walter P. Chrysler Technology Award for Jeep Innovation
Contact: Eric Mayne Four Engineers Share Walter P. Chrysler Technology Award for Jeep Innovation February 26, 2014, Auburn Hills, Mich. - This year’s Walter P. Chrysler Technology Award goes to four engineers whose patented innovation inspired the breakthrough four-wheel-drive system featured on the all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Don Schmanski, Mike Nemeth, Joe Kubina and Pete Jarzyna hold U.S. Patent No. 8172712, which covers the power transfer unit and associated components that contribute to no-compromise 4WD performance in a vehicle with a transverse engine and front-wheel-drive architecture. The innovation was among 44 patented technologies considered for the prestigious award honoring Walter P. Chrysler, whose creative vision pioneered the Company. “This PTU technology exemplifies true problem solving creativity that is a hallmark of Chrysler Group engineering,” says Ed Smith, Assistant General Counsel-Intellectual Property. “It mitigates the vehicle-efficiency penalty historically associated with on-demand 4WD without diminishing 4WD capability, a feature that is fundamental to the Jeep brand and critical to so many customers. This invention allowed Chrysler to offer a 4WD package that achieves optimal functionality and efficiency.” The patent describes a reduction hub controlled by a range selector with high, low and neutral settings. It is used to engage a planetary gear assembly that drives a transaxle’s output shaft. The resulting technology enables the 2014 Jeep Cherokee to boast crawl ratios up to 56:1, while also contributing to a 2.5% fuel-economy improvement, compared with conventional on-demand systems. Judging for the annual Walter P. Chrysler Technology Award – first bestowed in 1994 – is performed by a panel of more than 40 Chrysler Group subject experts, along with previous award winners.

  • The Jefferys Quad and Nash Quad — 4X4 Ancestor to the Willys Jeep.Pdf
The Jefferys Quad and Nash Quad — 4x4 Ancestor to the Willys Jeep http://www.allpar.com/SUVs/jeep/jeffery-quad.html The “Quad” in the Jefferys and Nash Quad tells exactly what it was: a four wheel drive vehicle, one of the first successful ones ever to be made. There were other four wheel drive vehicles made at the time, but none enjoyed the reputation or success of the Jefferys Quad. The company responsible for the Quad was built, from the ground up, by Thomas Jeffery. Jeffery, an innovative tinkerer and inventor, had emigrated from Great Britain at the age of 17, in 1862. He always had things to do to earn a living, using his mind and his hands. Thomas Jeffery and Rambler Jeffery settled in Chicago, where he built several models of high quality and fairly priced telescopes. As his fortunes increased, he cast about for other things to do and make. He found one well paid enterprise in construction of models for inventions through the Unites States Patent Office. He was able to see what lay ahead for possible new enterprises for industrial things. One such exercise allowed him to meet a future business partner. Jeffery had already put together a new bicycle with a vastly strengthened frame, using a far less expensive manufacturing method, through the use of flared tubing, brazed together on a production line. The partner offered to put up the initial money to get the company started; Jeffery quickly agreed, though he had enough money of his own to do so, allowing him to save his own capital.
