Report on day’s Events: (Backstretch - accidents, fines, suspensions, objections, disqualifications, refunds, pertinent incidents, general details etc., Film Reviews, Races, Claims)

Backstretch: 09:10 – Apprentice Kazushi Kimura attended with his agent Jordan Miller to ask for an appeal form and discuss our decision to suspend Kazushi three racing days. We explained our position regarding the race and the appeal process. Jordan asked for a copy of the video and requested we delay any ruling until such time as he has a chance to review the race and decide whether they will go ahead with the appeal or accept the penalty.

09:50 – Jockey Agent Don Parente attended on behalf of his rider Chantal Sutherland to enquire about the penalty guidelines for urging infractions. It is their position that the penalties are too severe. It was explained to Don as it was to Chantal that this was a collective agreement by the Horseman’s Benevolent and Protection Agency (HBPA), Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG), Jockey’s Benevolent Association of Canada (JBAC) and the Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) in 2009. It was initially brought forward by the riders to have a clear understanding of what is an urging violation and penalties that should be associated with those infractions. Don also wanted to bring to our attention AGCO rule: 10.03 that states “No jockeys’ agent shall act at the same time for more than two Jockeys and one apprentice” and rule: 10.04 “No jockeys’ agent shall make or assist in making any engagement for any rider other than those he/she represents”. He said there are a few Agents who are in contravention of these rules but did not specifically name anyone. Advised we are unaware of the problem and going forward we’ll be watching the Draws more closely for this specific issue.

Race 2 – Clear

Race 3 – Apprentice Kazushi Kimura registered his fifth win while aboard #2 “Wild Parade” losing the ten pound allowance in the process. Remaining mounts on the day will carry five pounds extra, announced to the public.

Race 4 - #3 “Speed to Rush” ridden by Kazushi Kumura was off slow.

Race 5 – Clear

Race 6 – Stewards Inquiry and rider Claim of Foul by Emile Ramsammy aboard #7 “Perlarana” against Ademar Santos aboard #4 “Ben Lomond” for interference in late stretch. Ademar said his horse was laying in but felt it was the inside horse that came out to him, said he was going by him anyway. Emile said his horse was full of run and the #4 bumped him hard, it was enough to knock his horse off stride, feels it cost him the race. After review it was evident Ademars horse was lugging in with him and he does initiate contact with Emile, whose horse is knocked off his right lead and onto his left in the process. The difference between the two at the wire was a ½ length for the win. #4 “Ben Lomond” was disqualified from first and placed second behind #7 “Perlarana”
