Ntra Annual Report to the Membership | 2011-2012 NTRA ANNUAL REPORT to the MEMBERSHIP | 2011-2012 1 ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Inc. NTRA Safety & NTRA Charities NTRA Integrity Alliance Advantage Launched in 1998, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) is a not-for-profit, membership-based trade association for the Thoroughbred racing and breeding industry. NTRA membership is broadly defined and consists of leading Thoroughbred racetracks, owners, breeders, trainers, horseplayers, veterinarians, jockeys, wagering service providers, and affiliated horse racing associations. The NTRA is charged with increasing the popularity of horse racing and improving the economic conditions for industry participants. The NTRA is served by a Board of Directors that is comprised of representatives from member racetracks and horsemen, including owners and breeders. The NTRA operates three subsidiaries: NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance Establishes standards and practices to promote safety and integrity in horse racing and secures their implementation. NTRA Charities, Inc. Promotes and supports charities in or related to the Thoroughbred industry. NTRA Advantage Delivers cost reductions and efficiencies to NTRA members and associated member organizations through group purchasing. Eurton elevated his stature from solid Southern TCalifornia conditioner to Grade 1 winner through the accomplishments of Weemissfrankie, who captured the Del Mar Debutante for two-year-old fillies last September. Peter Eurton is embraced by jockey Rafael Bejarano after Weemissfrankie wins the Eurton sensed something unusual in the air Del Mar Debutante last year during that entire meet following the death of owner and close friend Frank Alesia, who died in Carlsbad in February, 2011, and after whom the filly was named. “It was the meet of all meets,” said Eurton from a mezzanine box seat recently at Hollywood Park. “Everybody felt throughout Momentum the meet that Frank was there in some way, carrying those horses. “All the horses seemed to be running lengths better than they had,” continued Eurton of divine help. “I think we won eight raises Eurton races. Weemissfrankie’s maiden win on opening day and the Debutante were both very emotional. Jet Blue Girl ran a humongous race. Mega Heat won a couple. Hard to Resist won on closing day.” On the lighter side, Eurton also saddled to Grade 1 Joker Face to win the much-ballyhooed Battle of the Exes match race under Mike Smith over a mount ridden by Chantal Sutherland. “That was a kick, about as much fun as winning a st akes race,” said Eurton. “There was so much stardom hype and attention before the race.” The momentum of the Del Mar meet carried on through 2011 and the present year.
