  • Nick Smith Animal Kingdom
I have an excellent advisor in the U.S. in HRTV=s Stephen Nagler, and he and the International Racing Bureau are contracted to Ascot to set up meetings, and put me in front of owners and trainers who have expressed an interest, either at dinner or at the track, whatever suits them. I also want to discuss the Shergar Cup with Gary Stevens and Rosie Napravnik. I spoke to Rosie about being on this year=s girls= team at the Woodbine Mile in Nick Smith, the Head of Communications and September and want to follow that up. She is a star. International Racing at Ascot Racecourse in the UK, is preparing to embark on a three week international tour TDN: Are there any specific American horses you are to promote Ascot Racecourse--specifically Royal Ascot, targeting to attend this year=s Royal Ascot meeting? the G1 Betfair King George, and QIPCO British Champions Day--to horsemen worldwide. Smith will be NS: Obviously number one on anyone=s list would be in the U.S. from today through Feb. 11, and the TDN Animal Kingdom. I spoke to Barry Irwin briefly in sat down with him to find out what his plans are and Melbourne in November, and Graham Motion has been what Ascot has to offer. making encouraging noises. It=s early days, but I=ll be TDN: Can you describe the purpose of your visit to following that up. He could run in the Queen Anne over America, and what you hope to achieve? a mile or the Prince of Wales=s S.

Weemissfrankie’s maiden win on opening day and the Debutante were both very emotional. Jet Blue Girl ran a humongous race. Mega Heat won a couple. Hard to Resist won on closing day.” On the lighter side, Eurton also saddled to Grade 1 Joker Face to win the much-ballyhooed Battle of the Exes match race under Mike Smith over a mount ridden by Chantal Sutherland. “That was a kick, about as much fun as winning a st akes race,” said Eurton. “There was so much stardom hype and attention before the race.” The momentum of the Del Mar meet carried on through 2011 and the present year.

  • Building Sustainable Growth: Progress Report No. 3
Building Sustainable Growth: Progress Report No. 3 May 11, 2012 Introduction Over the course of the past two months, several of the “Sustainable Growth” initiatives have been launched and several more will be in the coming weeks. They are all part of The Jockey Club’s long-term, integrated content creation and distribution strategy designed to attract and engage new and casual fans to the sport. The growth initiatives include the development of a new brand, America’s Best Racing, which showcases America’s best horses, races, tracks, jockeys, trainers and owners with a focus on the two seasons: Road to the Triple Crown and Road to the Breeders’ Cup. This progress report provides updates for all of them. Ownership: Thoroughbred OwnerView Overview: The Thoroughbred community needs a central resource to encourage ownership of Thoroughbreds and provide accurate information on trainers, public racing syndicates, the process of purchasing and owning a Thoroughbred, racehorse retirement, and owner licensing. Status: The Jockey Club today launched Thoroughbred OwnerView (ownerview.com), a free website that serves as a comprehensive resource for both current and prospective Thoroughbred owners. It features a wide range of information regarding owner orientation, trainers, public racing syndicates, licensing and racehorse retirement, among other topics. “The sport needs to reduce the barriers to ownership,” said James L. Gagliano, president and chief operating officer of The Jockey Club. “We knew that with our extensive data collection and technology expertise, this resource was something The Jockey Club could build and launch in a short period of time.” “Over the past several months, focus groups and webinars have been conducted with owners, trainers, racing syndicates and industry groups,” said Gary Falter, vice president of operations and the project manager for Thoroughbred OwnerView.
