Ce rapport est produit conformément aux exigences de l’article 52 de la Loi sur les transports au Canada. Dans un pays de la taille du Canada, le transport joue un rôle fondamental. En effet, c’est le transport qui appuie et permet les activités sociales et économiques. Le rapport montre clairement l’importance de ce rôle en décrivant la situation du secteur des transports au moyen d’une analyse des dernières données disponibles sur le réseau de transport du Canada. Ce rapport et les cinq précédents permettent de bien comprendre les tendances et les enjeux qui influent sur les besoins de transport, ceux qui découlent des exigences des activités socio- économiques, l’évolution du marché et les défis qui en résultent pour le réseau de transport de notre pays. Le rapport se veut un guide pour comprendre l’efficience du réseau de transport dans le contexte des nouveaux facteurs logistiques en jeu qui ajoutent constamment aux attentes des canadiens et des canadiennes face aux transports. En cette période où nous examinons les défis et les pressions que le réseau de transport du pays devra faire face au cours des prochaines années, le rapport vient renforcer l’information dont nous disposons pour asseoir les décisions à prendre. The Initiative is an integrated set of investment and policy measures that will enhance the efficiency and exploitation of the Gateway and Corridor [i.e., infrastructure from Winnipeg to Vancouver (via Regina-Calgary) and Prince Rupert (via Saskatoon-Edmonton) including British Columbia Lower Mainland and Prince Rupert ports, road and rail connections]. The Asia-Pacific Gateway Corridor Initiative, October 12, 2006, www.tc.gc.ca Canada’s New Government Takes Steps Towards New International Air Policy On October 25, 2006, the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, released a consultation document in support of a new international air transportation policy. Transport Canada is seeking stakeholder views on the document, which calls for a modernized approach to international air transportation, including Canada’s bilateral air transportation negotiations. Transport Canada also seeks the views of stakeholders on longer-term issues such as: a comprehensive Canada-European Union air agreement; a review of ownership and control regimes of foreign air carriers; the movement towards the creation of a North American aviation market; and the adoption of a multi- lateral approach to some negotiations, which means one agreement with a group of countries.
