The Chicago Cubs are one of the oldest teams in Major League . The team started in 1869 and was originally called the White Stockings. From 1890 to 1898, the team had a lot of different names, including the Colts, Orphans and Cowboys, before officially being named the Cubs in 1907.

Hard-hitting Fact: player hit his famous “called shot” home off of Cubs during Game 3 of the on October 1, 1932. During his at-bat, Ruth apparently pointed to a spot in the outfield bleachers and then hit the next pitch near where he pointed.

Seventh-inning Stretch at : The tradition of singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” during the seventh-inning stretch started in 1982 with Cubs announcer . Today, the Cubs continue Caray’s tradition by inviting guests, including former baseball players, other sports stars, actors and celebrities, to sing the seventh-inning stretch each game.

Did You Know: After each game, the Cubs raise a flag above the center-field to let fans know if they won or lost. Today, the Cubs fly a white flag with a blue “W” if they won and a blue flag with a white “L” if they lost. Fans also are known to bring “W” flags to home and away games and wave them after a Cubs win.
