Hike For Healing

Mt Everest Hike

Like other high peaks in the region, Mount Everest has long been revered by local peoples. Its most common Tibetan name, Chomolungma, means “Goddess Mother of the World” or “Goddess of the Valley.” The Sanskrit name Sagarmatha means literally “Peak of Heaven.” Mount Everest attracts many climbers, some of them highly experienced mountaineers. There are two main climbing routes, one approaching the summit from the southeast in Nepal (known as the "standard route") and the other from the north in Tibet.

From the South Camp of Nepal, where most hikers normally start their ascent, to the peak of Everest, a climber will hike 20.5 kilometers. We chose Mt Everest as the distance to emulate because it is such an iconic trek and holds great significance for the Nepali people. Popular Hikes in BC

Grouse Grind

The Grouse Grind® is a 2.9-kilometre trail up the face of Grouse Mountain, commonly referred to as “Mother Nature’s Stairmaster.” Cooperatively supported by Grouse Mountain Resort and Metro Regional Parks, this trail is very challenging. On average it takes up to an hour and a half to complete the hike. For novice hikers, two hours is recommended. If you plan on taking the skyride back down, you must make an advance reservation for that otherwise you will need to hike back.

Coquitlam Crunch

The Coquitlam Crunch is a steep, urban trail that follows a route under large hydro power lines and offers a great workout. With the trail's location directly under the power lines, all of the views are obstructed by these lines and giant towers. However, the Coquitlam Crunch is a shorter, less intense version of the Grouse Grind with the sole purpose of exercise. The Crunch is 2.25 kilometers from the bottom to the top. Mt Seymour

Mount Seymour: Length, 4 km. Suggested hiking time, 2.5 hours. This busy trail starts near the north end of the top parking lot, traversing Brockton Point and First and Second Pump Peaks. From the summit there is a panoramic view of Vancouver, the lower mainland and, on a clear day, the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island. This hike is rated moderate to difficult.

Burnaby Mountain

Located east of downtown Vancouver and home to Simon Fraser University, Mountain has several trails that are popular with hikers and mountain bikers. The majority of the trails are on the east side of the mountain, just off of North Road near the Coquitlam boundary and they have different ratings according to their difficulty.

To hike from the base of at Lougheed Hwy and Gaglardi Way to Simon Fraser University, it is 5.0 kilometers.
