Sugarcane Jane Hype Sheet SUGARCANE JANE Featuring Anthony Crawford! and Savana Lee Bio: Sugarcane Jane, the Alabama Gulf Coast-based husband and wife duo has amassed an extremely loyal following. Anthony and Savana Lee Crawford purvey what they proudly call “Organic Music at its Finest.” Rich, homegrown, and natural, their brand of Americana draws from a deep well of roots influences, interwoven with inflections of gospel, country, jazz, and rock. Listeners can expect mostly acoustic sounds, and some of the freshest-sounding vocal harmonies they will ever hear. Both virtuosos in their own right, Anthony is a songwriter who plays acoustic guitar, mandolin, and a bass drum (which he plays while strumming his six-string) and Savana Lee deftly dances between rhythm guitar and snare drum. Multi-instrumentalist Anthony Crawford is known in most circles as a sideman to the stars. Over the course of the last 25 years, he has performed with Neil Young, Sonny James, Steve Winwood, Dwight Yoakam, Vince Gill, Rosanne Cash, and Rodney Crowell, and has written / co-written songs recorded by Kenny Rogers, Steve Winwood, Pegi Young, Lee Greenwood, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, to name a few. Yet, even with his history of working with heavyweights, Crawford feels Sugarcane Jane – his musical venture with multi-instrumentalist wife Savana Lee Crawford, is his life’s calling. Sugarcane Jane will release their new studio album, Dirt Road’s End – an album they conceived and co-produced with legendary Americana/Roots singer-songwriter Buzz Cason. The album will be released via Cason’s ArenA Recordings / eOne Entertainment on April 28, 2015. Recorded on analog two-inch tape on the classic Otari MTR-90 tape machine at Buzz Cason’s Creative Workshop in Nashville, this fast-paced, high-energy album traverses a range of moods and stories. “The release of this album is kind of like watching your baby grow up and move out of the house,” says Savana. “These songs are such a part of us and are the very essence of Sugarcane Jane. We are so excited to see them reach a broader audience.” Press Quotes: “An album that deserves to be at the top of critics’ lists” and “One of the best duos since Johnny and June” - The Washington! Times “Indeed, every move these two make, whether as Sugarcane Jane or as a part of the Americana group from Lower Alabama, Willie Sugarcapps, they seemingly can not put a musical foot wrong.” - Exclusive !Magazine Video: “Dirt Road’s End Teaser” http://youtu.be/F3wyRhDfdkg! • Review of Buzz Cason's Hats Off to Hank
Buzz Cason Hats Off to Hank Produced by Buzz Cason (but two tracks, produced by Parker Cason) on Palo Duro Records. Hats Off to Hank is the next best thing to a photo album of Cason’s experiences from a life in music, it is the sound version of a lifetime of influences. For those not familiar with Cason, he is a Nashville-native and a music veteran since the 1960s. He backed vocals for Elvis and Kenny Rogers; he also recorded his own material with two members of the Jordanaires. The Creative Workshop he operated 1970s-80s had the likes Dolly, Emmylou, Haggard, The Doobies, and Olivia Newton-John in its studios, recording albums. Hats title track pays homage to Hank Williams, it has perfect backing by high pitched slide-guitar and rumbling bass guitar. “Black Man in Mississippi” and “Barbeque” are classic rockabilly type tunes. “Black” describes a man who dreams of a music career; “Barbeque”, as you might guess, was inspired by a hallmark of Southern cuisine. Two other songs’ themes wander below the Mason-Dixon: “I Love the South” is slower and more gospel in tone, while “Texas Wildflower” is a great traveling song (like Cash’s “I’ve Been Everywhere”). “Wondering” contemplates love that might have been; like “Texas” it has that perfect summer road trip beat too. “Ain’t Nobody” is the strongest Blues- influenced track, its theme is isolation and knowing that oneself is the one responsible for that state; “Hooked Up With the Man” is also bluesy, it alludes to getting life in balance with a higher Divine plan, while “Oddly Enough” is inspired by the eternal acceptance and forgiveness of a romantic partner.

  • The Crickets
The Crickets A rockabilly/rock and roll/pop band formed in 1957 in Lubbock, Texas, and best known for helping launch the career of rock and roll icon, Buddy Holly. The founding members Charles Hardin Holley (aka Buddy Holly), lead vocals and guitar, (b Lubbock, Texas, Sept 7, 1936, d Mason City, Iowa, Feb 3, 1959), and Bob Montgomery, vocals and guitar, (b Lampasas, Texas, May 12, 1937) met at Hutchinson Junior High School, and, by the Fall of 1953, were playing on Lubbock radio station KDAV‟s „Sunday Party‟ program as the Buddy and Bob Show. The two were soon joined by friend and bass player, Larry Welborn (b Lubbock, April 13, 1939). The three soon performed “Flower of My Heart,” a song written by Montgomery for a contest at Lubbock High School. The tune was chosen as the 1954 Senior Class Song. Following this local success, Holly, Montgomery, and Welborn then headed to Wichita Falls, Texas, in order to record demos of other songs. 1955 was a busy year for Holly and his friends. In February they opened for Elvis Presley at Lubbock‟s Fair Park Coliseum. In October, they performed in a show featuring Bill Haley and the Comets and then opened for Elvis again. Soon Holly signed a solo recording contract as a „country‟ artist and left Lubbock for Nashville, causing the trio to break up. By 1957, however, Holly had met with little success in Nashville. He returned to Lubbock and was joined by Joe Mauldin (b Lubbock, July 8, 1940) on bass, Jerry Allison (b Hillsboro, Texas, Aug 31, 1939) on drums, and Niki Sullivan (b South Gate, California, June 23, 1937, d Sugar Creek, Missouri, April 6, 2004) on rhythm guitar.
