We also used issues of Laxative (19 January 1979) and Laxative Feedback (14 March “1984”. The date is a reference to Orwell’s novel. The true year is 1979). The list was compiled by Special Collections Assistants John Brooker (who listed the 1960s) and Martin Levy (listed the 1970s). We have included references to gigs at local venues other than the University as these may well have been attended by students and also be of interest. Further work will be done on filling the gaps in our holdings of the newspapers and on the bands of the 1980s and 1990s soon. If you remember any of these gigs, can add details of others, or have tickets, posters etc, we would love to hear from you. Likewise if you have any corrections e.g. if an event was cancelled. http://www.bradford.ac.uk/library/special-collections/ 1965 26 January, Leeds Odeon. It might equally apply to an individual- to Eric Clapton, for example, The Beatles are the saints of the 1960s, and George Harrison an especially "heavy person". This year, heavy people flock together. Clapton and Steve Winwood join up in Blind Faith. Steve Marriott and Pete Frampton meet in Humble Pie. Crosby, Stills and Nash admit a new member, Neil Young. Supergroups, or more informal supersessions, serve as musical summit meetings for those who are reluctant to have theirwork tied down by the now antiquated notion of the "group". Trouble of one kind or another this year awaits the leading examples of this classic formation. Our cover stars The Rolling Stones this year part company with founder member Brian Jones. The Beatles, too, are changing - how, John Lennon wonders, can the group hope to contain three contributing writers? The Beatles diversification has become problematic.

In the second half of the 1970s, Brian Eno, Larry Fast, Mickey Hart, Stomu Yamashta and many other musicians blurred the lines between rock and avantgarde. Brian Eno (34), ex-keyboardist for Roxy Music, changed the course of rock music at least three times. The experiment of fusing pop and electronics on Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy (sep 1974 - nov 1974) changed the very notion of what a "pop song" is. Eno took cheap melodies (the kind that are used at the music-hall, on television commercials, by nursery rhymes) and added a strong rhythmic base and counterpoint of synthesizer. The result was similar to the novelty numbers and the "bubblegum" music of the early 1960s, but it had the charisma of sheer post-modernist genius. Eno had invented meta-pop music: avantgarde music that employs elements of pop music. He continued the experiment on Another Green World (aug 1975 - sep 1975), but then changed its perspective on Before And After Science (? 1977 - dec 1977). Here Eno's catchy ditties acquired a sinister quality.

As the family moved from one city to the next, her mother warned her about daredevil men and to avoid risk at all cost. Following her mother’s advice, and forgoing the magic of first love with a high-school boyfriend who she thought too wild, Maggie married a good, dependable man.

Edexcel English Literature GCSE Poetry Collection: Relationships i wanna be yours - John Cooper Clarke This work by PMThttps://bit.ly/pmt-edu-cc Education is licensed under https://bit.ly/pmt-ccCC BY-NC-ND 4.0 https://bit.ly/pmt-cc https://bit.ly/pmt-edu https://bit.ly/pmt-cc I WANNA BE YOURS John Cooper Clarke Brief Summary The poem features an unknown speaker addressing their lover, who is also unknown to the reader. The speaker asks to be let into every aspect of their lover’s life by listing the different mundane, everyday objects they want to replace. As well as asking to be needed and adored by their lover, the speaker demonstrates their devotion to their lover and the consistency of their affection. The exact relationship between the speaker and the object of their affection is unknown, but it is clear that the speaker wants to be closer to the person they are addressing. The poem is full of simplistic language, word play, and innuendo. Synopsis ● The speaker is talking directly to an unknown subject and we never hear their response to the speaker ● The speaker asks their lover if they will “let” them take the place of various everyday objects in their life ● The speaker makes it clear that their lover is in control ● The only thing the speaker desires is to belong to their lover ● The list of mundane objects continues as the speaker makes it clear that they want to make their lover’s life better and be with them everywhere ● The final stanza finishes with a grander, more metaphysical (deep) image than the mundane objects previously used to show the extent of the speaker’s devotion ● The speaker concludes by clarifying they want no one else other than the lover they are addressing in this poem Context John Cooper Clarke (1949 - present) John Cooper Clarke was born in Salford, Lancashire, in the north of England.
