We also used issues of Laxative (19 January 1979) and Laxative Feedback (14 March “1984”. The date is a reference to Orwell’s novel. The true year is 1979). The list was compiled by Special Collections Assistants John Brooker (who listed the 1960s) and Martin Levy (listed the 1970s). We have included references to gigs at local venues other than the University as these may well have been attended by students and also be of interest. Further work will be done on filling the gaps in our holdings of the newspapers and on the bands of the 1980s and 1990s soon. In the second half of the 1970s, Brian Eno, Larry Fast, Mickey Hart, Stomu Yamashta and many other musicians blurred the lines between rock and avantgarde. Brian Eno (34), ex-keyboardist for Roxy Music, changed the course of rock music at least three times. The experiment of fusing pop and electronics on Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy (sep 1974 - nov 1974) changed the very notion of what a "pop song" is. Eno took cheap melodies (the kind that are used at the music-hall, on television commercials, by nursery rhymes) and added a strong rhythmic base and counterpoint of synthesizer. The result was similar to the novelty numbers and the "bubblegum" music of the early 1960s, but it had the charisma of sheer post-modernist genius. Eno had invented meta-pop music: avantgarde music that employs elements of pop music. He continued the experiment on Another Green World (aug 1975 - sep 1975), but then changed its perspective on Before And After Science (? 1977 - dec 1977). Here Eno's catchy ditties acquired a sinister quality.

The speaker asks to be let into every aspect of their lover’s life by listing the different mundane, everyday objects they want to replace. As well as asking to be needed and adored by their lover, the speaker demonstrates their devotion to their lover and the consistency of their affection. The exact relationship between the speaker and the object of their affection is unknown, but it is clear that the speaker wants to be closer to the person they are addressing. The poem is full of simplistic language, word play, and innuendo. Synopsis ● The speaker is talking directly to an unknown subject and we never hear their response to the speaker ● The speaker asks their lover if they will “let” them take the place of various everyday ​ ​ objects in their life ● The speaker makes it clear that their lover is in control ● The only thing the speaker desires is to belong to their lover ● The list of mundane objects continues as the speaker makes it clear that they want to make their lover’s life better and be with them everywhere ● The final stanza finishes with a grander, more metaphysical (deep) image than the mundane objects previously used to show the extent of the speaker’s devotion ● The speaker concludes by clarifying they want no one else other than the lover they are addressing in this poem Context John Cooper Clarke (1949 - present) John Cooper Clarke was born in Salford, Lancashire, in the north of England.

Jahrestag des Kriegsendes in Europa geben sollen – leider wurden sie allesamt vom Virus verspeist. Glücklicherweise verfügt das Freie Radio über ein umfangreiches Archiv mit Vorträgen, Diskussionen und sonstigen Beiträgen aller Art, auf das nun zurückgegriffen werden kann. Zum Jahrestag am 8. Mai senden wir einen Vortrag von Dr. Ulrich Schneider aus dem Jahr 2000, in dem er sich mit der Situation in Kassel und Nordhessen zum Kriegsende befaßt. • Sendetermin: „Themenwechsel“, Freitag, 8. Mai 2020, 18 Uhr Wiedervereinigung des Jahres: Tresenlesen Auch wenn die (West)deutschen mit Wiedervereinigungen ihre traurigen Erfahrungen machen mußten, so sollte man Ereignisse dieser Art nicht pauschal verteufeln. Über eine ebenso erfreuliche wie unerwartete Reunion durften sich die Kabarettfreunde kürzlich freuen: Tresenlesen, das legendäre Duo aus dem Ruhrpott, das in den 90er Jahren die Lesebühnen- Tradition mitbegründete und zu den Pionieren der Komischen Literatur gehört, hat sich kürzlich wieder zusammengetan – nach 20 Jahren. Jochen Malmsheimer und Frank Goosen, die im Jahr 2000 ihre Zusammenarbeit beendeten und jeweils erfolgreiche Solokarrieren starteten, trafen sich am Ostersamstag auf einer Theaterbühne in Bochum und präsentierten dem umständehalber nur virtuell vorhandenen Publikum alte und neue Texte. Und es funktionierte: Die alte Magie war wieder da, die Chemie stimmte, die Interaktion klappte wie in alten Zeiten. Steht nur zu hoffen, daß dies kein einmaliges Ereignis bleibt, sondern daß die beiden Kabarett-Titanen weiterhin gemeinsam ihr Publikum begeistern – vielleicht auch mit einem neuen Bühnenprogramm, sobald es die äußeren Umstände wieder zulassen.
