L`Ej BI STAKES for BONO-R L`eJ BI STAKES FOR BONO -R D U2 will headline Bonnaroo in what may be the biggest — and most pivotal — booking of the season HEN U2 ANNOUNCED ITS 2017 tour celebrating the 3oth anniversary of The Joshua Tree, the itinerary revealed that the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival had landed the Irish band's first-ever (and only) U.S. festival appearance. By live music standards, it was the biggest get of the festival season — rivaled only by Beyoncé's since-canceled headline appearance at Coachella — in a critical year for the Manchester, Tenn., event. One of the world's most captivating live acts, U2 will perform its landmark 1987 album in its entirety — the kind of major draw that the festival, which is scheduled to run June 8-ii, could use. According to Nashville newspaper The Tennessean, Bonnaroo's daily attendance hit an all-time low of 45,537 The Edge (left) and Bono during the in 2016, and 28,156 fewer tickets were band's Joshua Tree Tour in 1987 sold than in 2015. • You and Me Got a Whole Lot of History
You and Me Got a Whole Lot of History: An historical analysis of music distribution and formats, and the socio-cultural trends that have shaped them. Brianna Jamieson A dissertation submitted to Auckland University of Technology in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the Master of Business Degree (MBus) 2016 Primary Supervisor: Dr. Katharine Jones Secondary Supervisor: Dr. Roger Marshall Abstract The music industry has been in a state of flux for the past 20 years. Disrupted by the digital revolution, and the significant consumer uptake in the piracy of music product, revenues have fallen substantially over a relatively short period of time. This case study analyzes the historical timeline of music product formats and distribution methods whilst contextualizing them through the socio-cultural trends that have shaped the shifts in music format and distribution methods, through a business lens. From the distribution of physical music product, through all the transitional periods surrounding the digital revolution, and the new model of non-acquisition consumption through streaming, the consumer behaviour trends that have impacted on music distribution and format are analyzed as important influencing factors. The case study uncovers an industry resistant to change, and an industry that behaves in a wholly reactive way to consumer behaviour trends. This research also discusses the potential future around the sale of recorded music, as socio-cultural trends continue to shape the development of music as a cultural commodity. A distribution strategy for maximizing revenue for each distribution method and format is proposed, by strategically releasing new recorded music products (albums) physically, digitally and through streaming service in a specific timeline in order to avoid the cannibalization of each format.
