Future generations will fuck up again THE OUTPATIENTS got started in 1982 by Deep Wound bassist Scott Helland At least we can try and change the one we’re in and his older brother Eric “Vis” Helland, guitarist/vocalist of Mace — a 1980-82 — Deep Wound, “Deep Wound” Metal group that played like Motörhead but dug Black Flag (a rare blend back then). The Outpatients opened for bands like EAST COAST Black Flag, Hüsker Dü and SSD. Flipside called ’em “one of the most brutalizing live bands In 1980, over-with small cities and run-down mill towns across the Northeast from the period.” 1983’s gnarly Basement Tape teemed with bored kids with nothing to do. Punk of any kind earned a cultural demo included credits that read: “Play loud in death sentence in the land of stiff upper-lipped Yanks. Atom and His Package Possibly the smallest band on the list, Atom & his Package consists of Adam Goren (Atom) and his package (a Yamaha music sequencer) make funny punk songs utilising many of of the package's hundreds of instruments about the metric system, the lead singer of Judas Priest and what Jewish people do on Christmas. Now moved on to other projects, Atom will remain the person who told the world Anarchy Means That I Litter, The Palestinians Are Not the Same Thing as the Rebel Alliance Jackass, and If You Own The Washington Redskins, You're a ****. Ghost Mice With only two members in this folk/punk band their voices and their music can be heard along with such pride. This band is one of the greatest to come out of the scene because of their abrasive acoustic style. The band consists of a male guitarist (I don't know his name) and Hannah who plays the violin. They are successful and very well should be because it's hard to 99 when you have such little to work with. This band is off Plan It X records and they put on a fantastic show. Not only is the band one of the leaders of the new genre called folk/punk but I'm sure there is going to be very big things to come from them and it will always be from the heart. Defiance, Ohio Defiance, Ohio are perhaps one of the most compassionate and energetic leaders of the "folk/punk" movement. Their clever lyrics accompanied by fast, melodic, acoustic guitars make them very enjoyable to listen to.

There would be no Nirvana, Beastie Boys or Red Hot Chili Peppers were it not for hardcore pioneers such as Black Flag, Bad Brains and Minor Threat. Hardcore was more than music—it was a social movement created by Reagan-era misfit kids. The participants constituted a tribe unto themselves—some finding a voice, others an escape in the hard-edged music. And while some sought a better world, others were just angry and wanted to raise hell. AMERICAN HARDCORE traces this lost subculture, from its early roots in 1980 to its extinction in 1986. Page 2 ABOUT THE PRODUCTION Paul Rachman and Steven Blush met through the hardcore punk rock scene in the early 1980s. Steven promoted shows in Washington, DC, and Paul directed the first music videos for bands like Bad Brains and Gang Green.

  • Local Punks Start a Movement
Local Punks Start a Movement Peter & the Test Tube Babies Local punks have joined forces to create a monthly event, called PVD Punk Night, with the first installment coming March 31 at PVD Social Club. Former Hell owner John ‘Cyco’ DiFruscio, Drunk Robb, Brass ‘N’ Ammo, Done Right, and American Pride among others are off to an awesome start. This will be the type of night that punk rock dreams are made of. The 1980’s punk legends, Peter and The Test Tube Babies are on their first US tour in more than 10 years, which includes a stop at the PVD Social Club. Peter and The Test Tube Babies are known for blistering punk rock anthem like “Intensive Care,” “Run Like Hell,” and my personal favorite, “Banned From The Pubs.” I remember getting a punk compilation mixed tape with no song names in high school and “Banned From The Pubs” was the first song and just listening to that song and hitting rewind over and over. I didn’t actually find out until an embarrassing amount of years later that it was Peter and The Test Tube Babies and not The Exploited. Hey, there was no internet back then. Sometimes it is hit or miss when the punk rock titans of the past come to town but Peter and The Test Tube Babies have enjoyed a solid reputation on the European festival circuit and look to be a sure bet. If that wasn’t enough throw in a second headliner in NYC hardcore legends, Murphy’s Law, and you got the punk rock show of the spring, possibly the year.

  • New York City Hardcore Punk and the Struggle for Inclusive Space
De Urbanitate. Tales of Urban Lives and Spaces 133 Don’t Forget the Streets: New York City Hardcore Punk and the Struggle for Inclusive Space Alan Parkes History Instructor, Long Beach Community College & California State University, Long Beach [email protected] KEYWORDS: New York City; punk; hardcore; youth crew; subculture; masculinity; straight edge; neoliberalism Mike Ferrero, a self-described “fucked up kid” from a small working class town in Connecticut, recalls his life changing after the first time he encountered hardcore punk in New York City in the early 1980s; “I walked away from my first CBGB’s matinee blown away. I was never going to miss another one of these. I could be half dead, but I’m going to make it to every matinee forever.”1 Hardcore, as the louder, faster, and more politically infused successor to punk, from then on played no small role in Ferrero’s life. It offered him a reprieve from difficulties at home and high school, which he described as a torture chamber. At matinees, he let out the week’s aggression on hardcore’s dancefloor and began to express himself through the creation of his own music. The formation of his band symbolized the actualization of a dream he conjured up to escape the realities of his life. In New York hardcore, bands, only distinct from fans by the instruments in their hands, shouted cries of “unity” amongst kids who wanted something more than the urban decay that surrounded their revered, egalitarian hardcore space. As Ferrero recalls, “All of a sudden I found this group of other fucked up kids, and then I didn’t feel so alone.

He was Japanese American Museum. It was a strange place to see punk reading an issue of the zine Nervy Girl. He told me that I’d inspired him to AA bands. Their sets were incredibly short. It was an amazing show, pick up a copy of the zine. Since I’d never hear of it, I asked him what he anyway. After the show, Todd spotted The Brat’s guitarist walking around meant. He told me that all my talk of a media monopoly and the need for with copies of the only record they’ve released. I looked at Todd to make independent voices to balance out the mainstream corporate voices got to sure I wasn’t hallucinating. Because I have to admit, I’ve dreamed of him. He was in Hollywood and saw the zine and never would’ve picked it seeing this record in record stores so many times without actually seeing it up if not for me. He felt embarrassed purchasing it, he said, but now he that I’d begun to believe that the record only existed in dreams (and was glad he did. “Have you heard about all these women getting killed in Jimmy Alvarado’s record collection).
