Kean University skipper Neil Ioviero earned NJCBA Coach of the Year accolades. Additionally, senior righty Dave Waseleski (Lawrenceville, NJ) of The College of New Jersey was selected Fireman of the Year. Freshman outfielder Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, NJ) was named the Rookie Player of the Year, while Montclair State University freshman righty Jesus Castano (West New York, NJ) was tabbed Rookie Pitcher of the Year. Quintana, an Honorable Mention All-State pick a year ago had a monster senior campaign for the Golden Falcons (23-24). He batted .404 (74-183) with 16 homeruns, 59 RBIs, 57 runs scored, 18 doubles and one triple, and collected 142 total bases. He also walked 29 times and was successful in 23 of 29 steal opportunities. He had a .776 slugging and .500 on-base percentage. He was also sure-handed with the glove, good for a .980 fielding percentage in 395 chances. Quintana was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year, the league’s player of the week three times, and led the CACC in seven categories. He was also named the 2007 Daktronics NCAA Division II Northeast Region Player of the Year. He is Felician’s career homerun and RBI leader, and bagged 204 career hits. Augustine, a First-Team All-State choice in 2006, helped Kean win the 2007 New Jersey Athletic Conference regular season title by one game over The College of New Jersey, an at-large berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament, and a No. 5 national ranking. The NJAC Pitcher of the Year, he was a three-time league Pitcher of the Week and a two-time NJCBA Pitcher of the Week selection. For the year, Augustine went 7-2 in 11 starts, and posted a 2.15 ERA. He had four complete games and one shutout. In 79.2 innings, he fanned 81 versus only 14 walks, and allowed just 56 hits and 21 runs. Ioviero, who in 10 years at the helm of the Cougars program has accumulated an overall record of 271-124-2, was also named the NJAC Coach of the Year, after guiding Kean to a school-record 35 wins, including a 15-3 league mark. In addition to the NJAC regular season title, Kean earned the #1 overall seed in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional under his tutelage. Waseleski played an important role in the nationally-ranked Lions (33-9, 14-4 NJAC) capturing their third consecutive conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The 2007 NJAC Fireman of the Year, he went 5-0 with three saves in 17 appearances. In 34 innings, he had 24 strikeouts and 16 walks, and allowed only 12 runs and 31 hits. Guadango, a First-Team All-NJAC pick, batted .410 (59-144) with 41 RBIs and 36 runs, and collected 19 extra base hits, including 12 doubles and four homers. He finished with 89 total bases, a .456 on-base percentage and .618 slugging rate, while stealing seven of nine bases. He was a three-time NJAC Rookie of the Week and an NJCBA Rookie selection. Castano, a three-time NJAC and three-time NJCBA Rookie Pitcher of the Week, he earned Second-Team All-NJAC honors after quickly becoming the ace of the Red Hawks staff. In 14 games (seven starts), he went 7-2 with a 2.90 ERA. In 59.0 innings, he fanned 38 batters, walked only 16, while allowing 29 runs, and 49 hits. He tallied three complete games and one shutout for MSU (22-18). Kean was the most-honored program with 10 players and/or coaches receiving All-State honors or special awards, followed by TCNJ (8), Caldwell College (5), Montclair State (5), Felician (4) and Rowan (4). 2007 NJCBA DIVISION II/III ALL-STATE TEAM MAJOR AWARDS DIVISION II/III PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Frank Quintana, Felician College (SR, 1B, Miami, FL) 3 PITCHER OF THE YEAR: Joe Augustine, Kean University (SR, P, Highland Park, NJ) 1 FIREMAN OF THE YEAR: Dave Waseleski, The College of New Jersey (SR, RP, Lawrenceville, NJ) ROOKIE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Mike Guadango, William Paterson University (FR, OF, Upper Saddle River, NJ) ROOKIE PITCHER OF THE YEAR: Jesus Castano, Montclair State University (FR, SP, West New York, NJ) COACH OF THE YEAR: Neil Ioviero, Kean University FIRST TEAM ALL-STATE NAME SCHOOL YEAR POSITION HOMETOWN Dan Zeffiro Kean University SR SO Old Bridge, NJ Blake Ortiz The College of New Jersey SR SP Swedesboro, NJ Robert Casal Caldwell College FR SP Howard Beach, NY Brandon Aich ~ Kean University SO RP Sayreville, NJ Blake Bullis 14 The College of New Jersey SR 1B Delran, NJ Maikel DeLaRosa 1 Kean University JR 2B Newark, NJ Jeff Toth The College of New Jersey JR SS Parlin, NJ Tom Ready Rowan University SO 3B Blenheim, NJ Gerard Haran ^ ^^ The College of New Jersey SR C Matawan, NJ Adric Saxon Caldwell College FR OF Coral Springs, FL Rick Pignatello William Paterson University SR OF Wayne, NJ Joe Gunshor ~ Stevens Institute of Technology SO OF Ridgefield, CT Rob Bowness 3 Montclair State University SR DH Sparta, NJ Derek Gianakas Kean University JR UT Edison, NJ SECOND TEAM ALL-STATE NAME SCHOOL YEAR POSITION HOMETOWN Jairo Mendez Montclair State University JR SP Kearny, NJ Mike Oliver The College of New Jersey JR SP Hamilton, NJ Ryan Flannery FDU-Florham JR SP Carlstadt, NJ Jeff Calabrese Felician College FR RP Freehold, NJ Bill Mercurio Rutgers-Newark SR 1B Wappinger Falls, NY Matthew Vickers Drew University SR 2B Pearl River, NY Jose Fulgencio New Jersey City University JR SS Bronx, NY Perry Schatzow 3 Kean University SR SS Ocean, NJ Ryan Clark Kean University JR 3B Livingston, NJ Chris Chiarappa Caldwell College JR C Elmont, NY Ray Rose Felician College SR OF Piscataway, NJ Dan Mattonelli Kean University JR OF Hamilton, NJ Jeff Botti The College of New Jersey SR OF Avenel, NJ Joey Santillo FDU-Florham SO DH Mount Olive, NJ Mike Morris 2 Rutgers University-Camden JR OF Sewell, NJ THIRD TEAM ALL-STATE NAME SCHOOL YEAR POSITION HOMETOWN Gary Winkler Rowan University JR SP Glendora, NJ Ryan Kulik 4 Rowan University JR SP Marlton, NJ Jason Ronca Rutgers University-Camden SR SP Eastampton, NJ Colin Feneis Kean University SO SP Spotswood, NJ John O’Hara Richard Stockton College FR RP Clayton, NJ Lou Politan Montclair State University JR 1B Livingston, NJ Andrew Cosgrove The College of New Jersey SR 2B Lebanon, NJ Tim Barnshaw Rowan University SO SS Dayton, NJ Billy Ryan Caldwell College SR 3B Toms River, NJ Tom Terrill Rutgers University-Camden SR C Sewell, NJ Raymond Keelan Caldwell College FR OF Barnegat, NJ Rob Sumner 1 New Jersey City University SO OF Union, NJ Mike Guadango William Paterson University FR OF Upper Saddle River, NJ Jairo Jimenez Ramapo College JR OF Bronx, NY Nick Sbarra Ramapo College JR OF Washington Township, NJ Chris Flynn Felician College SR DH Keyport, NJ Adam Sandt 1 4 9 Stevens Institute of Technology SR UT Allentown, PA Jeff Miller Montclair State University SR UT Wyckoff, NJ ALL-ROOKIE TEAM NAME SCHOOL POSITION HOMETOWN Matt Hunt Richard Stockton College SP Marlton, NJ John Kuder Rutgers-Newark RP Township of Washington, NJ Joe Bartlinski Kean University SP South Amboy, NJ Richard Pultar Rowan University RP Freehold, NJ Joe Cacchiola Ramapo College 2B Union, NJ Richard Melendez Felician College 2B Miami, FL Nick Nolan Kean University UT Linden, NJ Anthony Yeswita Rutgers-Newark OF/DH Hasbrouck Heights, NJ Michael Fasano Centenary College OF Hawthorne, NJ Andrew Himmelfarb Montclair State University INF Nyack, NY Alex Mena New Jersey City University C North Bergen, NJ Vince Giunta Rutgers University-Camden DH/C Sewell, NJ Mark Cerrachio Centenary College 3B Brick, NJ Keith Evans Rowan University OF Audubon, NJ Tyler Nagel FDU-Florham 2B Long Valley, NJ LEGEND ^ = Division III Player of the Year, 2006 ^^ = Division III Player of the Year, 2005 ^^^ = Division II Player of the Year, 2005 ~ All-Rookie Team, 2006 1 = First-Team All-State, 2006 2 = Second-Team All-State, 2006 3 = Honorable Mention All-State, 2006 4 = First-Team All-State, 2005 5 = Second-Team All-State, 2005 6 = Honorable Mention All-State, 2005 7 = First-Team All-State, 2004 8= Second-Team All-State, 2004 9= Third-Team All-State, 2004 .

  • Women's Outdoor Track and Field 2013 Season in Review
Editor: Kristy McNeil AUGUST 2013 Michael Franklin ’13 finishes the 10k at the NCAA Championships in fifth Julia Ratcliffe’16 earned second-team All-America honors in her first NCAA place, the best finish in the event for a Tiger in NCAA history. He was ranked Outdoor Championship in the hammer throw. She had the second-longest 18th entering the meet. throw in the nation this season. Chairman’s Statement What has become clear is that the Princeton track and cross country program is now taking on a national presence as never before. Princeton has always had performers on the national stage: Bill Bonthron, David Pellegrini, Augie Wolf, Tora Harris, Donn Cabral, Al Dyer, Craig Masback, Lynn Jennings, Ashley Higginson, Nicole Harrison and Debbie St. Phard. What is happening now is that our presence on the national stage is becoming more frequent. This has profound implications for Princeton, the program and certainly our student athletes. After lengthy conversations with the coaches it’s clear that the financial support from Friends has had a dramatic impact on recruiting and performance. As such, know that your contributions are having the impact that you want and deserve. Our coaching staff from top to bottom may be the best in the country. We know Princeton is. With that package and proper funding our dominance and national presence can be assured to continue. On behalf of the coaches, our student athletes and the board, may I respectfully thank you for your contributions last year and ask you for your continued support this year. Enjoy Tiger Tracks.

Cell phones started ringing, and people lined up outside the Student Recreation Center (SRC) started buzzing with confusion and frustration. “The lead singer of Plain White T’s is ill and he is unable to perform tonight,” said Dave Keenan, director of campus life, announcing the cancellation of the band’s appearance. The band was formally named as the headliner for the annual Student Entertainment Council Spring Concert last month after weeks of debate and discussion among students. The total cost to put the show on was “20-something thou- sand,” said Keenan, who added that Plain White T’s had not yet been paid, and that contrac- tual matters were going to be discussed later. “We’ll be working with that over the next few days,” he said. “We have to sit down with the contract and go through it to see what will be paid and what won’t be paid.” Joe Rey/The Rider News See Concert, p. 5 Members of the road crew for Plain White T’s roll out a case of guitars after their SRC concert was canceled at the last minute.
