Various partners drew up a 20 Year Flood Action Plan. Somerset Rivers Authority was launched in January 2015 to oversee that Plan and do the extra work that long experience has shown Somerset needs. There is no single answer to Somerset’s many flooding problems, and different parts of the county have different needs. That is why the SRA was set up as a partnership. Different organisations are limited in what they can do individually, but as SRA partners they can get more done by acting collectively. -

Constitution of the Transport for the South West Peninsula Shadow Board THE CONSTITUTION OF THE SOUTH WEST PENINSULA SHADOW SUB- NATIONAL TRANSPORT BODY 1. Introduction 1.1 The Cities and Local Government Devolution Act makes provision for the establishment and constitution of Sub-National Transport Bodies (STB) for any area in England (outside of Greater London). 1.2 The establishment of an STB as a statutory body requires approval from Government and a Statutory Instrument must be agreed by Parliament. It has been agreed by each of the Constituent Authorities to establish a shadow Body which will operate until and if a statutory body is established. 1.3 This Constitution will govern the running of the shadow Body and will form the basis of the development of a business case for the establishment of a statutory Body. This business case will be considered for approval by the Body and the Constituent Authorities and will set out the powers that the body will be seeking, to be informed by the SWPSSTB ’s vision, Transport Strategy, and negotiations with the Department for Transport (DfT). If the business case is approved, it will be submitted to the Secretary of State for consideration. 2. Constituent Authorities 2.1 The Constituent Authorities are the following Local Transport Authorities situated within the South West Peninsula:- Cornwall Council Devon County Council Plymouth City Council Somerset County Council Torbay Council 3. Area covered 3.1 This will be the administrative area of the of the Constituent Authorities. 4. Name 4.1 The name of the Body will be the South West Peninsula Shadow Sub-National Transport Body (SWPSSTB). -

Illustrative Option schemes in CP5 HLOS The Department worked with Network Rail, the train operators and the transport authorities in the major cities to build up shared information on current rail usage. As far as practicable a shared view was also agreed on forecast demand, using standard rail industry models but adjusting these where there was evidence of likely stronger growth. This forecast growth is stated as a peak demand to be met in the HLOS. The forecast growth was assessed against current plans for train service provision in 2019. Illustrative train service enhancements that provided the capacity to meet this demand were identified and modelled for the morning peak services in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds. In many cases these were directly based on the work undertaken by recent rail industry Route Utilisation Strategies (RUS). In some cases, notably in Leeds and Manchester, recent Government commitments to funding electrification and capacity enhancements had happened after the RUS and so the Department worked with key stakeholders to determine the most likely train service patterns the infrastructure changes might produce. The illustrative peak train services are not what will happen; that will be guided both by the rail industry’s response to the HLOS in the Strategic Business Plan for CP5 where the industry will set out how it proposes to meet the HLOS, and by the outcome of future train operator franchise competitions. But the illustrative train services are needed for the Department to confirm that a value for money solution can be provided to meet peak demand. It is likely the rail industry will produce a more detailed and efficient solution, and in this context the illustrative option can be viewed as the simple answer that should be bettered. -

BACKGROUND TO THE EAST COAST MAIN LINE AND INTERCITY EAST COAST FRANCHISE 1 The East Coast Main Line 1.1 The East Coast Main Line (ECML) is one of two high-capacity north-south trunk routes that run between Scotland and London. Whilst not formally defined, it is broadly accepted as being the rail line from Edinburgh southwards via Newcastle, York, Doncaster, and Peterborough to London Kings Cross. The mainline from Leeds to Doncaster via Wakefield Westgate (often referred to the West Riding section) is also regarded as part of the East Coast Main Line. 1.2 Whilst the route serves an important function for long-distance Anglo-Scottish inter-city passenger trains, the InterCity East Coast franchise operates fewer than half the trains on the route. It is a multi-functional railway, accommodating many other local and regional services, together with freight traffic along various parts of its length. For the City Region this includes: TransPennine Express services on the route north of York to Middlesbrough, Newcastle, and in future, Edinburgh; InterCity Cross Country services north of York to the north east and Scotland, and also south of York and Leeds towards Sheffield, the midlands and south west; open access operators: . Grand Central services between West Yorkshire, Doncaster and London; . Grand Central services between the north east, York and London . Hull Trains services between Hull, Selby, Doncaster and London. Local services between Leeds and Doncaster / Sheffield via Wakefield Westgate. 1.3 The route’s role in the “heavy-lifting” of commuter traffic into Leeds itself, and increasingly into Wakefield, Doncaster and York too, is vital to the economic success of the region, and to providing socially inclusive and sustainable access to work and education opportunities. -
Clinical Oncology Training in the South West Peninsula
Clinical Oncology Training in the South West Peninsula Why should you choose to train in Clinical Oncology in the Peninsula? For a start, Peninsula was ranked 1st in England for overall satisfaction for Clinical Oncology in the 2015 and 2016 GMC survey. Where else can you receive first class training during the day and visit the beach after work? The excellent standard of training is reflected in a high pass rate for the FRCR exams and the presentation of the Oncology Registrars’ Forum Trainer Award to one of our consultants in 2014. Training is provided at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in Exeter and the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. A typical 5 year rotation would involve 3 years in Plymouth, 1 year in Exeter and 1 year in Truro although there is some flexibility. There are currently 10 Clinical Oncology Specialty Registrars in the Peninsula. During the course of the rotation registrars will receive training in state of the art radiotherapy techniques including intensity modulated radiotherapy, image guidance, gating, 4DCT, stereotactic radiosurgery, high dose rate and low dose rate brachytherapy. All centres on the rotation have active clinical trials units and trainees will be encouraged to take part in research and quality improvement projects. There are no Medical Oncology trainees in the Peninsula, so Clinical Oncology trainees gain a broad experience in prescribing systemic therapy for all tumour sites. During the ST3 year trainees are supported to attend a basic sciences course in preparation for the FRCR part 1 examinations. Recent trainees have attended the three Biological Basis of Cancer Therapy courses run by the Christie in Manchester, each of which lasts one week.
