Located in southern Romania, in the Oltenia region, Dolj County is a very fruitful and attractive tourist area, with many attractions for tourists. In order to promote the objectives and tourist attractions from Dolj County, we have presented in this study the ones that should not be missed by a tourist in this area, including the Craiova Art Museum, the Amza Pellea Memorial House, The Roman Castro from Răcarii de Jos, Segarcea wine cellar, Cetate Port, special reservations such as the Paleontological one from Bucovăț, the one Wild Peonies from Plenița, or the Ciuperceni Ornithological Reservation. In the chapter of places of worship, we remembered the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Dumitru from Craiova, but also the monasteries Cârcea, Maglavit, Sadova. Negotiation of the Haiduc in Ceaușescu's Romania
Honor among Thieves: Negotiation of the Haiduc in Ceaușescu’s Romania (1968-1982) THESIS Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Master of Arts in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Justin Thomas Ciucevich, B.A. Graduate Program in Slavic and East European Studies The Ohio State University 2017 Thesis Committee: Theodora Dragostinova, Advisor David Hoffmann Adela Lechintan-Siefer Copyrighted by Justin Thomas Ciucevich 2017 Abstract In Nicolae Ceaușescu’s Romania, the haiduc enjoyed an elevated status in the national pantheon alongside the greatest rulers and revolutionaries of the past – celebrated through film, songs, literature, and architecture. Romania’s producers of culture (particularly privileged intellectuals working within the highly-centralized state) used the haiduc figure as an embodiment of the ideals espoused by the regime – a protector of national identity; a guarantor of social justice and economic equality; defender against foreign oppression; an embodiment of paternity, masculinity, fraternity, and morality; and a champion of righteous revolutionary principles. However, the haiduc also served a practical purpose for the regime. The narratives of the two most renowned haiduc figures – Baba Novac (1530-1601) and Iancu Jianu (1787-1842) – were used, especially, to vilify ethnic minorities and the large peasant population in Romania. This thesis focuses on how these two figures were used most malleably in order to maximize public displays of national chauvinism via flamboyant glorifications and representations. ii Vita 2004............................................................... Boicu, Filip Sebastian (2014) Cultural Discourses in Ceauşist Romania
CULTURAL DISCOURSES IN CEAUŞIST ROMANIA: THE HERO-MIRROR MECHANISM FILIP SEBASTIAN BOICU, BA. MA. Thesis submitted to the University of Nottingham for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy July 2014 363 364 ABSTRACT Cultural discourses in Ceauşist Romania: The Hero-Mirror Mechanism This thesis is concerned with main cultural discourses of the second phase of Communism in Romania (1964-1989), period largely identical with that of Ceauşescu’s rule. A secondary aim of the thesis is to look at the post-1989 continuations of these publicly influential discourses with the aim of understanding how the educational system (HE, in particular) is positioned in relation to the cultural domain. With regard to the Communist period, the main assertion of the thesis is that analysis of these discourses reveals an underlying cultural mechanism equivalent with a central mode of governance employed by the Communist party. According to this assertion, the mission of this cultural mechanism, with origins in Lenin’s drastic distinction between the party and the proletariat and in the idea that the party must bestow consciousness on the proletariat, is to create and regulate positive avatars (heroes imbued with the best of humanity) for each social category so as to fulfill and safeguard the aims of the Party. For this reason, this device has been entitled the hero-mirror mechanism. The device has also been linked with religion and theology. This perspective has found that the mirror-mechanism corresponds to the notion of “imago Dei,” and its axes to the notions of “kenosis” and “imitatio Dei.” The assessment of these cultural discourses via the mirror-mechanism results in three dimensions of research, each with its own universes of investigation, and each with its own findings. -

												Oltenia's Identity
Theoretical and Applied Economics Volume XX (2013), No. 7(584), pp. 7-26 Oltenia’s identity – A systemic approach of a tourism destination’s universe Aurelia-Felicia STĂNCIOIU The Bucharest University of Economic Studies [email protected] Nicolae TEODORESCU The Bucharest University of Economic Studies [email protected] Ion PÂRGARU Polytechnic University of Bucharest [email protected] Andreea BOTOȘ The Bucharest University of Economic Studies [email protected] Anamaria-Cătălina RADU The Bucharest University of Economic Studies [email protected] Abstract. The multitude of tourism products, “constructed” with a basis containing the resources of a tourism destination, on the one hand, and from the anticipation of the tourists’ needs and desires, on the other hand, is “hosted” in a complex space, which transcends the spatial and temporal coordinates. Therefore, it is necessary that the marketing specialists know and subsequenty use the components of the “destination’s universe” in the laborious process of constructing tourism products with specific, authentic elements, constituting points of contact between the targeted consumer segments and the nature and culture of the destination itself. The purpose of this paper is to identify, within a quantitative research, those specific elements of the region which can “collaborate” on developing every structured tourism product, comprising both tangible and intangible elements, functional and symbolic, which can be offered to as many market segments as possible, through planned activities of destination marketing, yet entirely complying with its identity. Keywords: destination; touristic identity; authenticity; Oltenia. JEL Classification: M3; L83. REL Classification: 14F; 14G. 8 Aurelia-Felicia Stăncioiu, Nicolae Teodorescu, Ion Pârgaru, Andreea Botoș, Anamaria-Cătălina Radu Introduction With a wide range of resources, Oltenia, in terms of authenticity and identity, can be successfully represented by its balneotherapy, natural or cultural profile alike. -
