Five EU-supported films compete this year for the

The 69th edition of the Berlinale will feature some of the current best European and international films, including 24 EU-supported films via the Creative Europe MEDIA programme. An edition of the European Film Forum will also be held alongside the festival on 11 February. The Forum will focus on “Subtitling and Dubbing: Using Technology to Help European Films Travel”.

Five EU-supported films compete this year for the Golden Bear

Amongst the 24 films MEDIA-supported films that will be screened in , five are competing for the Golden Bear in the main competition. In total, these films received over € 1,7 million of EU funding through the development, international co-production funds or distribution schemes of the MEDIA programme.

European Film Forum - “Subtitling and Dubbing: Using Technology to Help European Films Travel”

As in previous years, MEDIA is organising a European Film Forum during the Berlinale, a platform for a structured dialogue between policy makers and the stakeholders in the field. for this year is “Subtitling and Dubbing: Using Technology to Help European Films Travel”, and the debate will take place on Monday 11 February from 2pm to 5pm.

The topic has been selected due to the importance of both subtitling and dubbing when it comes to the circulation of European works, particularly given Europe's linguistic and cultural diversity, in a context in which the demand for diverse audiovisual content has risen over the past years. Creative Europe MEDIA-funded side events at Berlinale

Creative Europe MEDIA also partners with events and initiatives which take place during the Berlinale such as the Berlinale Co-Production Market, the Berlinale Talents or the Shooting Stars.

Berlinale Co-Production Market

The 16th Berlinale Co-Production Market (9-13 February) is a four-day event bringing together about 600 international producers, sales agents, distributors, financiers, and many other representatives from the industry to discover high-quality international projects, new trends and find business opportunities.

The co-production market is supported by Creative Europe MEDIA up to € 140,000, via the access to markets support-scheme.

Berlinale Talents

250 emerging creators from the fields of film and drama series are joining the Berlinale Talents, the annual summit and networking platform. The programme features master classes and panel discussions with top-notch experts; project labs and a variety of networking events.

With the theme "Mistakes", the Berlinale Talents focuses this year on on the deliberate decision to “do things wrong” as an aesthetic experiment, a creative force of renewal, and a wilful rebellion of art against the norm.

Berlinale Talents is supported by Creative Europe MEDIA up to € 270,000, via its training support- scheme.

Shooting Stars

10 promising young actors from across Europe have been selected to be part of the Shooting stars, the flagship programme of the European Film Promotion (EFP).

Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz, Alicia Vikander or Cécile de France were amongst previous Shooting Stars.

The 2019 Shooting Stars will be presented to the film industry, public and international press during the opening weekend of the Berlinale (8-11 February) through a series of high profile events, culminating in the presentation of the Shooting Stars Awards at the Berlinale Palast.

Shooting stars is supported by Creative Europe MEDIA up to € 84,500 via the access to markets support-scheme.

Sino-European Production Seminar 2019

Organised by Bridging the Dragon, a MEDIA-funded initiative, and the European Film Market, this event aims to provide a platform to connect the Chinese and European film industries. Find out more.
