It has been changing the landscape of the whole foodservice industry by forming new eating-out culture as well as by expanding the market volume of foodservice industry. Initially, the substantial growth has been driven by social, cultural and economical changes such as busier lifestyle, westernization of eating pattern and increase of income level in a booming economy. Then after the Korean financial crisis, the industry as a whole has chased undifferentiated growth strategy to survive under severe competition. However, profitability has been deteriorated because the growth stemmed from multi-store strategy. While most of the family restaurant companies have been focusing on volume without profits leading to financial difficulties, some successful players have captured the market by leveraging their core competence and have evolved from the second movers to market leaders.

Monday, May 24, 2021 | No. 169 When Star Wars opened May 25, 1977 no one but Steven Spielberg thought it would be a hit. George Lucas had been turned down by Universal, United Artists and Disney before pitching 20th Century Fox his sci-fi epic inspired by 1930's serials like Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers, the 1966 TV series Star Trek and Frank Herbert's 1965 novel Dune. Fox creative affairs chief Alan Ladd, Jr. greenlighted SW, but Fox's distribution arm never considered it a likely hit. Fox marketers wanted to change the title because moviegoers might think Star Wars was about the Vietnam War or, perhaps, superstars Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton's divorce. When Lucas screened a rough cut for some director pals, they weren't impressed. Brian De Palma reportedly called it the "worst movie" ever made. Spielberg, however, predicted SW would be "the biggest movie of all time." Lucas thought SW was doomed and skipped its premiere to vacation with Spielberg in Hawaii where they heard SW was a boxoffice phenomenon and then came up with a new project to do together -- Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), the first Indiana Jones blockbuster. Exhibitors were reluctant to book SW, thinking only kids and sci-fi buffs would buy tickets, so it opened at just 32 theatres. Two days later, it was in 43 theatres and a week later in 157. It peaked in mid-August at 1,096, a very wide run then. Produced for $11 million, its original release did $461 million domestically and $196 million abroad – huge numbers at Theatrical Poster for Star Wars, the time.

Studio Dragon Corporation (253450 KQ ) Mr. Sunshine is coming to Netflix Media Netflix deal for Mr. Sunshine worth at least W28.7bn After yesterday’s market close, Studio Dragon announce d in a regulatory filing that it Company Update signed a licensing contract with Netflix for its upcoming drama Mr. Sunshine . While the exact size of the deal (recognized as licensing revenue) was not revealed, we believe the June 22, 2018 deal is worth at least W28.7bn, given disclosure regulations. At the low end, the figure represents more than 70% of the drama’s production costs and a sharp increase from the prices of previous Netflix deals (50% of production costs). Given the rising value of content worldwide, we think it is likely the latest contract is worth more than the low-end figure . (Maintain) Buy Considering that the latest deal does not include China, we could see additional licensing sales once exports to China resume. Following the recent IPO of iQiyi, the battle for content among China’s three biggest OTTs has been intensifying . There is Target Price (12M, W) ▲ 150,000 also significant pent-up demand for Korean content. While the timing is not certain , we see potential for a deal worth over W10bn within the next year. Share Price (06/21/18, W) 116,100 Raising earnings estimates and target price; risks skew to upside Expected Return 29% We expect higher pricing of large-scale content to generate earnings leverage. We believe price gains are the result of: 1) the execution of a content business model (i.e., expanding beyond domestic ad sales to global content rights); 2) t he emergence of OP (18F, Wbn) 67 streaming giants (Netflix, Amazon, etc.); and 3) the scarcity of Korean big-budget Consensus OP (18F, Wbn) 67 content.

Ride the express to future growth Jay JH Ryu +822-768-4175 Initiate coverage with Buy rating and TP of W90,000 [email protected] We initiate our coverage on CJ Korea Express (Korex) with a Buy call and a target price of W90,000. We applied a residual income model (RIM) in deriving our target price, which corresponds to a P/B (intangible assets not adjusted) of 1.1x. Our target multiple appears reasonable, as we expect: 1) the firmÊs pricing power to recover on the back of its structural advantage in the parcel delivery sector; 2) margins to gradually improve; and 3) its traditional logistics businesses to continue steady growth. It should also be noted that we see strong upside potential to the companyÊs parcel Buy (Initiate) delivery rates in 2013, following the expected completion of parcel delivery Target Price (12M, W) 90,000 logistics terminals and the launch of same day delivery services. Although Share Price (06/07/12, W) 67,700 prospective M&As with foreign logistics firms represent attractive top-line growth Expected Return (%) 32.9 in the long term, we did not factor this into our conservative valuation.
