È il tema. Il tema intorno al quale ruotano vari problemi inter- connessi. Il nucleo verso il quale convergono teorie relative a temi specifici e insieme interrelati. L’idea di Lebenswelt è presente sin dal momento in cui viene proposta un’alternativa alla lettura positivista del mondo sociale. Dobbiamo a Dilthey una prima formulazione embrionale dell’idea di Lebenswelt. Idea che nell’autore è connessa alla ricerca di un fondamento epistemologico delle Geisteswissenschaften. Fondamento che si presenterà, infine, nella forma di una critica della ragione storica. Critica che implica una ricostruzione della genesi e della struttura del mondo umano (è evidente la simmetria con La critica della ragion pura e il fondamento delle scienze della natura). Le scienze dello spirito “riposeranno”, nella terza fase della riflessio- ne dell’autore (1905-1911) (cfr. Magnano San Lio 1998), sulla relazione triadica tra esperienza vissuta, espressione e comprensione. Concetti non semplicemente nati dalle astrazioni dell’osservatore, ma tratti da elementi radicati nel concreto mondo vissuto intersoggettivamente dagli attori. Più ancora: le categorie delle scienze dello spirito “sono forme strutturali del mondo umano tradotte concettualmente” (Rossi 1971: 78). Non sarebbe corretto dichiarare di scarso interesse le fasi precedenti. L’idea di una psicologia descrittiva era presente già nella prima fase del suo percorso teorico. E questo è uno dei punti di interesse che Dilthey condividerà con Husserl1. 1 “Together, Dilthey and Husserl, were involved in the struggle against logicism on the one hand, and the naturalism on the other. SOCIETÀMUTAMENTOPOLITICA, ISSN 2038-3150, vol. 6, n. 12, pp. 5-11, 2015 www.fupress.com/smp – © Firenze University Press DOI: 10.13128/SMP-17845 6 SOCIETÀMUTAMENTOPOLITICA Semplificando molto il pensiero di Dilthey possiamo riassumere la sua analisi, riguardo il nucleo essenziale del mondo della vita (nucleo che ri- guarda la co-costituzione di soggetto e sociale), indicando le due dimen- sioni in cui è articolata: dimensione verticale e dimensione orizzontale2. Nella prima dimensione viene ricostruita più direttamente la costitu- zione del senso nel tempo, viene seguito il paradigma della biografia in- dividuale, della formazione del soggetto. In questa abbiamo così concetti come relazione vitale (Lebensbezug) e di insieme vitale (Lebenszusammenhang). Sono relazioni vitali le relazioni primarie, le relazioni più elementari tra il singolo soggetto e il suo ambiente (persone e cose). L’insieme vitale è la risultante del processo. Nell’ottica orizzontale l’autore si concentra principalmente sulla genesi del mondo storico-sociale, sulla sua costruzione e ricostruzione. Due le categorie principali richiamate in quest’ottica: l’oggettivazione della vita e la connessione dinamica (Wirkungszusammenhang). L’oggettivazione rappresenta il dominio esterno delle scienze della spirito. La connessione dinamica indica una struttura interagente autocentrata e teleologicamente guida- ta. “Tanto il mondo umano preso nella sua totalità, quanto ognuno dei suoi settori costituisce una connessione attiva e produttiva, fornito della propria struttura e avente in se stessa il proprio centro” (Rossi 1971: 84). Il mondo storico-sociale è quindi una connessione dinamica composta da insiemi di connessioni dinamiche avente ciascuna un carattere attivo e teleologico. Il che riguarda un qualsiasi rapporto interumano, come un qualsiasi sistema culturale, una qualsiasi forma di associazione. La separazione tra dimensione verticale e orizzontale è analitica. Non si ha un prima e un dopo. Individuazione e socializzazione sono co-originarie. L’insieme vitale, la totalità significativa della vita esperienziale del sin- golo, è necessariamente e intrinsecamente legata alla dimensione della socialità. La presenza di una comunità è la premessa della comprensione. “Tutto ciò che viene inteso, -sostiene Dilthey- porta con sé, per così dire, il marchio della sua conoscibilità sulla base di […] [una] comunanza” (Dilthey 1982). Vi è così una doppia dipendenza reciproca. Le esperienze singole, per essere rese comunicabili e condivisibili, hanno bisogno essere selezionate e raggruppate in forme o contenuti generali socialmente co- struiti. I. Introduction Legal pragmatism is a visible movement in law academia today. The group advocating this stance is composed of a wide-ranging and diverse set of individuals. The list includes Daniel Farber,1 Thomas Grey,2 Margaret Radin3 and Judge Richard Posner4 among many others. Advocates of this stance insist that adoption a pragmatic conception of law practice can help law as a social tool function more effectively. More specifically legal pragmatism is advocated as a judicial stance. A glance at the group listed as legal pragmatists raises the question of whether there is a cohesive center to such a stance. If right-wing judges and leftist-feminists can advocate the same stance something is definitely suspicious. One suspects that there might not be any guts to a stance that can claim adherents from such otherwise radically opposed camps.

Coker ABSTRACT Modesta Bor (1926-98) was one of the outstanding Venezuelan composers, conductors, music educators and musicologists of the twentieth century. She wrote music for orchestra, chamber music, piano solo, piano and voice, and incidental music. She also wrote more than 95 choral works for mixed voices and 130 for equal-voice choir. Her style is a mixture of Venezuelan nationalism and folklore with European traits she learned in her studies in Russia. Chapter One contains a historical background of the evolution of Venezuelan art music since the colonial period, beginning in 1770. Knowing the state of art music in Venezuela helps one to understand the unusual nature of the Venezuelan choral movement that developed in the first half of the twentieth century.

He was motivated in part by an innovative reading of Plato’s dialogues. Where his predecessors found positive doctrines to be systematically developed, he found a dialectical method of arguing and the sceptical view that nothing can be known (akatalêpsia, De Or. 3.67,seeDL4.28, 4.32). He also advanced this conclusion in opposition to the ambitious system of the Stoics, claiming further that the appropriate response to the pervasive uncertainty generated by his method is the suspension of judgement (epochê). Arcesilaus’ dialectical method was practiced without significant modification in the Academy until Carneades, who became head sometime before 155 BCE.1 Carneades both continued and strength- ened Arcesilaus’ method (ND 1.11, Acad. 2.16, see also Acad. 1.46, and Eusebius, Praep. evang. 14.7.15). Sextus marks the change by referring to Plato’s Academy as Old, Arcesilaus’ as Middle, and Carneades’ as New (PH 1.220). Since the main interpretative issues regarding both Arcesilaus and Carneades depend on the concepts of akatalêpsia and epochê,we must try to determine what they mean, how they are related, and what attitude the Academics take towards them – i.e. in what sense, if any, are these their sceptical doctrines? iarcesilaus The view that Arcesilaus derived from Plato’s dialogues might have taken one of two very different forms. QUALITY IN HIGHER EDUCATION: SYSTEMS AND LIFEWORLDS IN COLLISION Jeff Aper Blackburn College ABSTRACT Questions abound about the quality and purpose of American higher educa- tion in the early 21st century. Solutions have tended to be framed in terms of economic production and manufacturing quality control models, and these terms increasingly characterize state and federal systems of authority over colleges and universities. As Habermas theorized, system logic, left to its own devices, will ultimately overpower, or “colonize,” the day to day meaning making culture or “lifeworld” of the campus. This colonization runs at counter purposes to the es- sential foundation of meaning for authentic education. A solution is proposed, suggesting that a deeper base to higher learning lies in embracing the traditional values of the academy and cultivating the faculty as a uniquely rich resource in support of student learning and the dual work of preservation and innovation in addressing the most pressing needs of humanity.

  • The Incongruity of Incongruity Theories of Humor
    THE INCONGRUITY OF INCONGRUITY THEORIES OF HUMOR Tomáš Kulka ABSTRACT: The article critically reviews the Incongruity Theory of Humor reaching the conclusion that it has to be essentially restructured. Leaving aside the question of scope, it is shown that the theory is inadequate even for those cases for which it is thought to be especially well suited – that it cannot account either for the pleasurable effect of jokes or for aesthetic pleasure. I argue that it is the resolution of the incongruity rather than its mere apprehension, which is that source of the amusement or aesthetic delight. Once the theory is thus restructured, the Superiority Theory of Humor and the Relief Theory can be seen as supplementary to it. (Plato, Philebus, 50) In the literature on humor and laughter it is customary to distinguish between three classical theories: The Superiority Theory (Plato, Aristotle, Hobbes), the Relief Theory (Spencer, Freud) and the Incongruity Theory (Cicero, Kant, Schopenhauer, Kierkegaard).1 The three theories are usually seen as rivals, competing for the most plausible answers to ques- tions like: „Why do we laugh?“, „What is the nature of humor?“, or „What does the comical consist of?“ The Superiority Theory says that the comical is perceived as inferior and our laughter is an expression of the sudden realization of our superiority. The Relief Theory emphasizes the liberating effect of humor. Laughter is seen as a discharge of surplus energy which alleviates psy- chic tension.

In the study, which is a qualitative research method patterned on phenomenology, data was collected using a semi-structured interview form. Structured interviews were conducted with seven research assistants selected from a faculty of education at a state university in Ankara using the criterion sampling method. According to the research results, research assistants were determined to prefer taking faculty members as their role models in building their professional identity. They see this process as an opportunity to specialize in their field and improve themselves, feel that working at a pioneering university with prestige in its field increases their responsibilities, and are more enthusiastic about improving themselves in that direction. In relation to deficiencies in the process of building their professional identity, the participants stated that they have limited opportunities regarding practice and feel uncomfortable conducting research unrelated to their practice. The research results were discussed in the context of related literature, as well as the administrative and functional structure of the higher education system. In the first place, he wrote nothing. Showing remarkable fortitude in the face of such an obstacle, Clitomachus, attempting to play Plato to Carneades’ Socrates, reportedly recorded Carneades’ teachings in 400 books (D.L. 4. 67). Not one remains. None the less, Clito- machus’ attempt to make a philosophy of Carneades’ anti-theoreti- cal stance was not a complete failure; Carneades had a tremendous influence on the later Academy as well as the Stoa, and his views (or lack thereof) have been handed down to us by both Sextus Em- piricus and Cicero. These sources are, however, problematic. As a Pyrrhonist, Sextus was critical of the Academy and may have ex- aggerated what he took to be Carneades’ dogmatism. Cicero, on the other hand, a student of Philo, was undoubtedly influenced in his interpretation of Carneades by his teacher’s dogmatic scepti- cism. Carneades is perhaps best known for proposing the pithan»e phantasia (probable impression) as a criterion for life. However, the status of his theory of the pithanon (probable) is completely unclear.1 Was it merely a dialectical move against the Stoic charge of apraxia (inaction)?
