(Gary Huff0rd}
A preliminary design for an unmanned hypersonic research vehicle to
test scramjet engines is presented. The aircraft will be launched from a carrier aircraft at an altitude of 4Q,0QQ feet at Mach 0.8. The vehicle will then accelerate to Mach 6 at an altitude of 100,000 feet.
At this stage the prototype scramjet will be employed to accelerate the vehicle to Mach 10 and maintain Mach IQ flight for 2 minutes. The aircraft will then decelerate and safely land, presumably at NASA Dryden
F[i_ht Test Center.
