Learning Language Pack Availability What's New for Learning Language Pack Availability PUBLIC 3 2 Introduction to Learning Language Support

The languages listed in this guide are currently supported for the latest product version of SAP SuccessFactors Learning.

Each language is licensed separately. An Enterprise Language Pack is also available. The Enterprise Language Pack includes all generally available language packs. Future languages are also included when they become available.

A language pack is a file that contains a set of system user interface labels and translated values.

Add a new locale in SAP SuccessFactors Learning if you are part of a global organization and your learners speak multiple languages, use multiple currencies, and so on.

Context

In SAP SuccessFactors Learning, a locale is more than a language. It is a group that speaks the same language from the same region. The group often speaks a variant of the language, such as French Canadian or Brazilian Portuguese. It also shares common syntax customs (a comma or a period for decimal places, for example). When you add a new locale, you add the language and you also add the other syntax customs and currency for the region.

Procedure

1. Go to SAP SuccessFactors Learning Administration and then go to References Geography Locales 2. Click Add New.

3. In Add New Active Locale, locate Active Locale ID, and then click its . 4. In Search Locale click Search. 5. In the search results, locate Records per Page and select 500.

By selecting 500, you can see all available languages. There are about fifty. Seeing them as a menu to browse is easier than guessing the name of the locale to search. 6. Look at the list, find the locale that you want to add, and click its Select link.

After you select the locale, you return to Add New Active Locale. 7. Add a description and a currency to the locale.

For example, if you are adding French Canadian, you might describe it as Quebec Locale and you probably add the Canadian Dollar as the currency. 8. In Use By, select the group that uses the locale.

○ Select User in most cases. Most of our locales are set up for end users. Please refer to the application languages list. ○ Select Admin in rare cases. When you add a locale, and you want administrators to use it, you usually also want to enable it for end users, which is Both. ○ Select Both if the application language is available for administrators and you also want users to have access to the language. 9. Click Add and then close Add New Active Locale.

After you close Add New Active Locale, you return to Locales.

 Note

The locales are preset to local conventions for numbers, time, dates, and so on.

3.1 Locales in SAP SuccessFactors Learning

A SAP SuccessFactors Learning locale is the language and cultural preferences of one place where you run your business.

A locale is the cultural traditions of one place where you run your business. In general, locales are grouped by language and nation, such as French speakers in Canada, Spanish speakers in Mexico, English speakers in the United States, Spanish speakers in Spain, and English speakers in Canada. The combination of language and nation allows you to not only set a language dialect for a place (such as Quebec in Canada) but also match the places' customs for how they write time, currency, or decimals.

3.2 SAP SuccessFactors Learning Locales Summary

In References Geography Locales Summary tab , you can use these fields to control basic behavior of a SAP SuccessFactors Learning locale.

Description You can rewrite the description if you need a better description for other learning adminis­ trators.

Use By Some locales are built for the user environment, some for the administration environment, and some for both. If you change it to the wrong type, you could cause translated strings to disappear from users' and administrators' screens.

Default Select to make this locale the default one for the administration environment. Before you se­ lect it make sure your locale is used by either Admin or Both.

Language/Country The language and country combination that uniquely identifies the locale.

Currency ID We do not recommend that you change the currency ID because it has been set for the country of the locale. You might need to change the currency, for example, if users in one country purchase learning in a separate currency, but this situation would be rare.

3.3 Activating Learning Currencies

Activate currencies in Learning to enable them for Learning Commerce.

Context

Learning currencies allow you to charge for learning in the users' local currencies and to account for costs in multiple currencies. Add currencies for economies where you operate and where you need financial transactions. Financial transactions that rely on currencies include charge back adjustments, order management, master inventory, cancellation policies, and account codes.

 Note

The currency names and alphabetical codes are based on ISO 4217. For a complete list of the currency names and code elements, go to the ISO official web site.

 Note

Learning currency metadata values are used by Learning and not by any other SAP SuccessFactors modules.

Procedure

1. Go to Learning Administration, and then go to Reference Commerce Currencies . 2. Find and edit the currency that you want to add to Learning. 3. Select Active 4. Click Apply Changes.

Set the locale preferences for users' learning profiles to control their language, time zone preferences, and date and number formats.

Context

In SAP SuccessFactors Learning, locale preferences determine how the system displays information to the user in the context of Learning: what language, currency, time zone, and data patterns the user prefers. For example, a user might want to see the Learning user interface and help in German, see prices in Euros, and see times in a 24- hour format. In most implementations of SAP SuccessFactors Learning, learners control their own preferences but as an administrator, you can also set them.

 Note

We recommend that you set users preferences globally in SAP SuccessFactors platform because chances are that they want a consistent experience across all of SAP SuccessFactors. In many cases, you go to their preferences to view their settings.

 Tip

You can disable the ability of their users to change their locale settings by disabling the workflow for your default user role. If you disabled users' ability to change their preferences, then you need to set them.

Procedure

1. Go to SAP SuccessFactors Learning Administration and then go to People Users . 2. Find and open the user with the profile preferences that you want to change. 3. Go to Preferences. 4. In Active Locale ID, select the locale for the user's learning preferences.

You typically enable a set of locales and set their default attributes during implementation. If you do not see a locale, you can enable it.

When you select a locale, the default attributes for time zone, data formats, and currency populate in the page. 5. If necessary, change the default attributes.

It is uncommon to make changes in the Update the Locale Format Options section, but you might need to change users' time zones or currency.

For example, if you select a U.S. English locale, and it defaults to Eastern U.S. Time, you might need to change user's time zone for users on the west coast of the U.S. 6. To show the start and end times for classes in the users' time zones regardless of the time zone where the course is held, select Always display Scheduled Offerings in this Time Zone.

7. Click Apply Changes.

3.5 SAP SuccessFactors Learning Time and Number Patterns in Locales

SAP SuccessFactors Learning time and number patterns define, for each locale, how users experience currency numbers, percentages, dates, and so on.

Time an number patterns control how users in a locale experience time, dates, percentages, and so on. For example, users in Germany, you might set a date format of yyyy-mm-dd but in the United States, you might use a date format of mm/dd/yyyy. If your users have a deadline of January 5, 2016, the users in Germany (associated with the German locale) see 2016-01-05, but users in the United States (associated with the U.S. English locale) see 01/05/2016. Number patterns work similarly: some locales use a comma for their decimal marker, for example, but some use a period, so you can control how users in different locales experience ten and one-tenth: either “10.1” or “10,1”.

Because we install your locales with the standard time and number patterns for the locale, most customers can just use the default. However, if you need to adjust them for your business case, you can do so in the SAP SuccessFactors Learning administration environment, in References Manage Labels Locales . We also install with the most common time and number format patterns, but if you do not find the pattern you need, go to either:

● References Calendars and Time Date Format Patterns to add patterns for time or date. ● References System Admin Number Format Patterns to add patterns for integers, decimals, currencies, and percentages.

Add hints to help SAP SuccessFactors Learning users with date, time, and number patterns so that they understand the format for their locale (culture).

Context

Although the system provides default hint messages for each date, time, and number pattern, you can edit them per locale. You might consider editing the hints when you allow users to choose their own patterns in Options and Settings and when those patterns have a specific purpose. For example, you might want to give users a choice between a twelve hour and twenty-four hour time pattern. By default, the hints are “HHmm” and “HHmm (AM/ PM)”, but you might think that those patterns are too hard to understand for users. So you might change them to “24-Hour” and “12-Hour”.

Hints are specific to a locale because the words in the hint should be translated. For example, you might say “12- Hour” in the US English locale but “12-Horas” in Mexican Spanish. The default hints use standard Java notation so they work reasonably well across locales. If you decide to change the hint, you change it for each locale.

Procedure

1. Log in to SAP SuccessFactors Learning administration and then go to References Geography Locales . 2. Look up the locale that should get the hints and open it. 3. Go to each pattern tab, type the hint in the Update the Date Patterns for the Active Locale table, and then click Apply Changes.

Number format patterns control how users experience numbers in SAP SuccessFactors Learning: currency, decimals, and so on.

Prerequisites

Before you add a new number format pattern, search the existing patterns to see if it already exists. Most customers can use the default number format patterns because our locales already follow the cultural norms for showing integers, decimals, currency, and percentages. Go to References System Admin Number Format Patterns to search for them.

Context

Different cultures format numbers differently. For example, some cultures is a period (.) for their decimal separator and some use a comma (,). Furthermore, companies differ on how they want to present numbers. For example, you might want to round a decimal after three digits but another company might want to round after four. You control these differences with number format patterns.

You can control the following mathematical attributes of your numbers. Importantly, these attributes can affect things like cost distribution after a course. If, for example, you divide a $100 course among three users, and if an administrator's maximum fraction digit for the dollar currency is two, then two users pay $33.33 and one user pays $33.34. This is because the remainder is calculated after two decimal places. For this reason, if you create your own patterns, we strongly recommend that you standardize these two attributes.

 Note

Learning number format patterns are unique to Learning. They are not shared with other parts of SAP SuccessFactors.

Procedure

1. Go to Learning Administration, and then go to References System Admin Number Format Patterns . 2. Click Add New. 3. Select what type of numbers the new format pattern applies to and then click Next. 4. Add the pattern rules.

 Note

Not all types of numbers use all pattern rules.

Decimal Separator Punctuation mark that precedes the decimal fraction in the number pattern format. For example, in 10.50, a period is the decimal separator.

Group Separator Punctuation mark that separates number groups in a num­ ber pattern format. For example a comma separator would generate the number 1,000,000. A period separator would generate the number 1.000.000.

Minimum Fraction Digit Minimum number of digits allowed to the right of the deci­ mal separator.

Maximum Fraction Digit Maximum number of digits allowed to the right of the deci­ mal separator.

5. Click Apply Changes.

3.5.3 Adding Learning Date Format Patterns

Add Learning date format patterns if you cannot find a default date and time formats to control how your users experience dates and times in their user interfaces.

Prerequisites

Most customers can use the default time and date format patterns because our locales already follow the cultural norms for showing times and dates. Go to References Calendars and Time Date Format Patterns to search for them.

Context

Date and time patterns control how different users in different cultures experience times and dates. For example, it is common for users in Germany to see a 24 hour clock but users in the United States to see a 12 hour clock. You can set the time pattern for German users to see their times in 24-hour format and U.S. users to see their time in 12-hour format.

Procedure

1. Go to Learning Administration, and then go to References Calendars and Time Date Format Patterns . 2. Click Add New. 3. Add an ID and then a Description that helps others understand the date pattern. 4. In Pattern Type select whether the pattern applies to dates or times. 5. In Pattern, use ISO syntax to define the pattern.

For example, M/d/yyyy. 6. Click Add.

3.6 Updating Language Packs

Language packs are updated automatically as part of the SaaS update process.

Our Product Operations team updates your language packs with each module update. Language Pack updates usually happen after product upgrade, so there may be a delay from your environment upgrade before you see the new labels reflected. During this time, new labels are displayed in English until the labels for that language are available in your system.

Here is a best practice for editing user interface labels.

You can personalize the application experience for your admins and users by changing the label values for user interface labels. For example, record names, navigation menu names, and system validation messages. Customers often do this when they use terminology within their business that differs from the system default terminology.

It should be noted that the system does not maintain a history of language label values. SAP SuccessFactors highly recommends exporting a copy of your labels to store as a backup file in the event that labels are inadvertently changed by an admin. In order to “reset” your labels you can re-import your backup copy.

SAP SuccessFactors Learning has some exceptions to its support of languages.

● The SAP SuccessFactors Learning administration does not support right to left language display. ● Neither the desktop Offline Player application nor the Report Designer client support multiple languages. They are U.S. English only. ● Not all parts of the SAP SuccessFactors application are evenly covered with languages because we prioritize based on customer need. For example, the languages supported for mobile learning might not be the same that are supported for web browsers.
