You can set out nice and relaxed on this family cycle tour thorough the Palatinate region because the shorter stages give you lots of time left over to do other things as well as cycling. Whether you visit one of the many adventure pools along route, marvel at the nature show in the forests and the nature protection areas or head to the theme park, “Holiday Park Pfalz”– this Palatinate cycle tour is a unique and huge adventure for all the family. You will then get given information and your rental bikes (if booked). Then you can walk through the old town with its little alleyways whilst enjoying the last rays of the evening sun. Alternatively, you can go to one of the town’s play areas. Day 2: Neustadt – Speyer 30 km In the morning, you head out of the vineyard area on easy paths through the Rhine valley. Your route takes you past the Holiday Park Pfalz. Here you really can’t miss out on taking a detour: shows and rides, rollercoasters and rapid rides. You then continue until you get to the cathedral town of Speyer with its medieval inner city. Day 3: Speyer – Ladenburg 35 km Whether you choose to go to Sea Life, to visit a museum or a ropes course, there are a lot of adventures to be had here. Then you will set out on this ideal route for families past lots of great natural landscapes towards Heidelberg. You will cycle through Heidelberg with its many attractions – for example the zoo or the “Märchenparadies” and then you will cycle along the river Neckar until you get to Ladenburg where you will spend your first night. Day 4: Ladenburg – Worms 35 km In Ladenburg you can admire the typical half-timbered houses. But don’t stop for too long here! Today a great route is waiting for you with lots of nature observations! You will be heading through extensive forest area in the Rhine valley. You will cycle through the Käfertal valley and past a game reserve. At the edge of the nature protection area “Lamertheimer Altrhein”, you can observe lots of partly endangered species of birds. At the end of your stage, you will get to the Imperial city, Worms. Day 5: Worms – Grünstadt 25 km There is still time along with today’s cycle ride to visit the zoo, the museums or one of the outdoor swimming pool in the Nibelung town, Worms. Then you will cycle past the Karl-Bittel-Park and the school museum via Bockenheim whilst always cycling along the fruity vineyards to Grünstadt, where you will get to the second-largest German wine-growing region: the deutsche Weinstraße. Here you can put your legs up and feast on the Palatinate specialties. In the 1960s, Richard and Hildegard Mosbacher established the high reputa- tion of the estate. In 1993, it was readmitted into the association of German estates known as “VDP. Die Prädikatswein- güter”, where we were one of the main promoters of the classification of sites for producing high-class Riesling and Burgundy wines. „We live for Riesling wines and love Burgundy varieties and Sauvignon Blanc.” Informal & open-minded We - Sabine Mosbacher-Düringer and Jürgen Dürin- ger, that is – work together to keep the family tradition alive. We were able to carefully expand the vineyard area to 22 hectares – a size which we and our team are able to cultivate very well. We live and work in the middle of the village of Forst, where our dedication and our wealth of ideas have allowed us to integrate the architecture of our estate into the panorama of the village in a harmonious way.     DR. BÜRKLIN-WOLF PFALZ In 1597, Bernhard Bürklin, town clerk and mayor of Wachenheim, founded Germany's largest privately owned estate, Bürklin-Wolf. The estate is based in the Mittelhaardt, the quality core of Germany’s Pfalz, located an hours drive north‐ east of Alsace. Aptly, the Pfalz Mittelhardt is the topographical and geological extension of France’s Côte d’Or and Alsace. The Mittelhardt’s best sites are similarly located within a very narrow, sheltered east‐facing strip of land. This historic estate has a 400 year history and is the largest family owned winery in Germany with 110 hectares. The vineyards are located in Wachenheim, Forst, Deidesheim and Ruppertsberg including the monopol sites "Wachenheimer Rechbächel" and "Gaisböhl" in Ruppertsberg. Disillusioned with confusing German wine laws that rated all vineyards equal and defined quality by sugar level, Bettina Bürklin-von Guradze made a radical decision in 1994 to focus on terroir-driven, dry, 100% riesling vineyard-designated bottlings. Her model is that of Burgundy, with 4 tiers of quality : basic "estate" wine, named "village" cuvées, premiers crus (which she calls P.C.) and grands crus (G.C.). After historical and geological research, she discovered that her own classification matched the Royal Bavarian Vineyard Classification of 1828. Bettina made the decision to undertake a total conversion to BIODYNAMIC VITICULTURE, COMPLETED IN 2005, and Burklin-Wolf has thus become the first German member of the prestigious Biodyvin group. PFALZ is the second largest German wine region by growing area, only topped by Rheinhessen, to its north. From there, the Pfalz stretches to the Alsace and the French border 53 miles to the south.
