Turist attractions to see in Copenhagen and some other beautifuls spots in Danmark Egeskov – Funen Egeskov Castle, the house as we see it today, was built by Frands Brockenhuus and was completed in 1554. He built his castle in the middle of a lake on a foundation of oak pilings, according to legend, in such quantities that "it took an oak forest to do it". The building, which looks so peaceful and idyllic to today's visitors was built for defence purposes. It consists of two long houses connected by a thick double wall - the first house could be abandoned and the fight continued from the second house.. In addition, the only access to the house was across the drawbridge. In the more than 400 years that have passed since it was built, various families have lived in the castle. The park has been open to the public for several generations and has re- mained unchanged since 1959 when restoration of the historic grounds com- menced. In 1967, the Veteran Car Museum was opened in the impressive building which used to be a barn and, over the years, the museum has been extended to include several of the surrounding farm buildings. Andersen - Funen (*1805 in Odense - † 1875 in Copenhagen) Hans Christian Andersen was born in Odense on 2 April 1805, the son of jour- neyman shoemaker Hans Andersen and washerwoman Anne Marie Andersdat- ter. His favourite pastime as a child was his imaginative life and, strongly in- fluenced by the theatre in Odense, he decided at the age of 14 to seek his fortune in Copenhagen at The Royal Theatre there. For a period of three years, Andersen was attached to The Royal Theatre wibut any fixed salary until, in 1822, he was given notice. That same year, Andersen, under a pseudonym, published his first book - Youthful Attempts. Without a doubt, Hans Christian Andersen is the most in- teresting personality in Danish cultural history. His fertile imagination and cre- ative urge have not only strongly influenced Danish literary style but also the Danish language. Address: H.C. It is a Romanesque ashlar stone with a relief carving of a lion’s head with two bodies, and was originally part of Hillerslev Church, where the couple had been married three years earlier. The stone is visible by the original entrance to the house. The result is a beautiful villa in the English style of the time, with many angles to its roof. Larsen was undoubtedly a diffi- cult employer, with his own ideas about architecture and interior decoration. It was, for example, an unbreakable rule that each room could only have daylight entering from one side – so that the shadows thrown by objects would be “or- derly” when drawn. Nothing was left to chance and all the furnishings were carefully chosen. Here the cannon-surrounded fortress on the Danish coast merges with the luxurious Renaissance castle without its equal in northern Europe. King Frederik II built Kronborg in 1574-1585 at the narrowest neck of the Sound between Denmark and Sweden – the Renaissance counterpart of a modern motorway. Through it sailed trading vessels from all over the world and had to pay a tax, ‘the Sound Dues’ to the Danish King. The Tour Guides Group in Christiania has been showing large and small groups round Christiania for over 30 years. The Group was created because there was a need for an organized form of guided tours. The society around and about Christiania has shown great interest in seeing and hearing a little more about the "remarkable – exciting - scary - differ- ent - alternative" and the name given by the Danish government - "The Social Experiment" - Christiania. Christiania has always placed great im- portance on our relationship with society at large and so it is natural for us to look after our guests. Everyone who knows or has heard of Christiania knows that there are many different 'truths' about the independent state. On a guided tour led by a 'born' christianit, both samll and large groups get a real insight into Christiania's structure and history and at the same time hear the guide's own 'truth' about Christiania.
