The City of Chicago's redevelopment plan for the 47th Street King Drive area does not deliver on its pledge to provide enough housing for displaced business who want to remain on 47th Street - especially for the community's poorest area. That's the assessment of the 47th Street Business Association (47SBA), in a view of the latest map on the African Village pro- Jiirtl posed by Alderman Dorothy Tillman. The 47SBA continued effort to be informed of the city's plan has been held up by the city and the alderman on numerous at- tempts. Bldg Existing Church The city's plan, along with Aid. Tillman is to rebuild the area bounded by 45th St. to 51st and St. Lawrence to the 47th Street "L". The map of the 47th King Drive plan is an early vision of what was proposed. However, the Lou Rawls Theatre and cultural center is the anchor of this redevelopment project that will be part of an ethnicity theme of the African/Caribbean and African Dias- pora reported Tillman. "The City has not sought enough input from the business com- munity in the past." says Ron Carter, vice president of the 47SBA.
