Tuesday, March 25, 2014 www.lakecityreporter.com 4A ANOTHER VIEW A needed tax break for Florida t’s time to start thinking about preparing for the 2014 hurricane season. While we hope it’s a calm, storm-free season, it’s a rite of passage as March turns into April to think about stocking up for the summer and fall. IThat’s why we’re encouraged by the state Legislature’s move to again push for a sales-tax break on supplies to help us prepare for the season that officially starts June 1 and runs through November. A Panhandle representative, Matt Gaetz of Fort Walton Beach has sponsored the sales-tax holiday – it’s House Bill 567. On Wednesday it received unanimous support from the House economic development and tourism subcommittee, the News Service of Florida reported. We encourage the Senate to pass a similar bill and get it to Gov. Rick Scott, who has expressed support for the tax break which, if approved, would allow for purchases from June 1 to 12. The News Service points out there is an anticipated surplus of more than $1 billion in the state. The Billion Dollar Dream has been over for a while. Most bracket sheets are loaded with red X’s. Still, there is plenty of March Madness ahead of us in the NCAA tournament’s round of 16. You want favorites? Three No. 1s — Florida, Arizona, Virginia — are alive and well after two rounds. You want underdogs? How about three with double-digit seedings — Stanford, a 10, with 11s Dayton and Tennessee. Rivalries? It’s tough to beat Kentucky-Louisville. Rematches? Besides Kentucky-Louisville there is Arizona-San Diego State. You get the point. Four days, 12 games.
