Ignacij Voje Ob njegovi osemdesetletnici Majhen in ponižen rastem v vesoljni red, bratje z istimi besedami govorijo, dvignjeni iz nedelje strmimo v zemeljski krog. Ferdom Gestrinom in nato še posebej z dr. Vasilijem Melikom in svojim naslednikom, dr. Vaskom Simonitijem. Menjave srebra, glamskega srebra, svinca in svin=evega glaja in sploh trgovske menjave in krediti v srednjeveškem Dubrovniku, trgovski stiki Dubrovnika z balkanskimi in italijanskimi dežela- mi in slovenskimi kraji in poti Ljubljan=anov v Dubrovnik, balkanska politika grofov Celjskih in njihova pobožnost, menjave turških ujetnikov na eni in usode turških sužnjev in suženj na drugi strani, usode balkanskih držav pod Turki in velike besede o teh usodah, migracije na Balkanu ... Milko Kos, dr. Gregor <remošnik, dr. Metod Mikuž ter dr. Fran Zwitter in mladi dr. Bogo Grafenauer.

  • Italian Women's Press and Political Education in People's Power Istria
Francesco Maria MENGO Italian Women’s Press and Political Education in People’s Power Istria (1943-1954) Italian Women’s Press and Political Education in People’s Power Istria (1943-1954) Francesco Maria Mengo Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona Spain UDK: 32-055.2(497.57)”1943/1954” Prethodno priopćenje/Preliminary paper Primljeno/Received: 19.01.2017. Prihvaćeno/Accepted: 24.07.2017. During and after the Second World War, the Agitation and Propaganda branches of the Yugoslav Communist Party and the related Communist Party of the Julian March started the publication of periodical news issues in the territories they controlled in Istria, and some of these issues were aimed at female audiences. These female- oriented publications encouraged the Italian-speaking Istrian women to mobilize both militarily, in the partisan struggle, and politically, for the construction of the new socialist society through political education and active participation. On the one hand the KPJ made reference to generic Marxist gender egalitarianism; on the other hand, though, it was acting within the context of the preexisting fascist policies of social segregation and belittlement of women. The primary sources hereby analyzed are the magazine La Donna Istriana and two different publications both named Donne, as well as the wartime pamphlet 8 marzo. Keywords: Istria, Agitprop, female partisans, women’s press, political education. Introduction: In 1943 the partisan insurrection started in Istria, after Italy’s surrender in September and the subsequent fall of the whole region under Nazi administration, under the denomination of Operationszone Adriatisches Küstenland (Operational Zone of the Adriatic Littoral), along with the later Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and the former province of Ljubljana, which was annexed to fascist Italy after the invasion of Yugoslavia in April 1941.

  • Marta Verginella, La Mobilità Femminile Tra Confini Politici E
The practices of crossing the border in the Upper-Adriatic area after World War II can be understood in depth if we analyze the dynamics of the urban-rural relationship in a gen- der and long-term perspective. The rural populations of Gorizia, Trieste, and Istria found a market for their agricultural surplus in the main city centers of the Austrian Littoral, where women played a primary role in the sale of produce and in some proto-industrial activities (pac- kaging and sale of bread). Women’s crossing of the border was not problematic as long as it remained within the traditional relationship between the city and the countryside, and adhered to the model of daily commuting. In socialist Yugoslavia women continued to sell their products in a capitalist country such as Italy, without endangering the ideological and political balance of the two neighboring societies. The only actors that sought to address this issue were Slove- nian middle-class leaders, who attempted to interfere and limit this commerce by way of natio- nal defence measures. Women’s crossing of the ethnic border in a private sphere, which was free of any possible external control, posed a threat to the integrity of the national body to which women belonged.

Alcune considerazioni intorno alla storiografia sull’occupazione italiana in Slovenia (1941-1943)* Abstract: In 1941 the Italian Army invaded Slovenia, annexing it to the Kingdom of Italy. The reasons of the attack concern both domestic and external affairs, including those affairs were officially presented by fascist propaganda as justification for the invasion, as well as the necessary creation of a “buffer zone” between Italy and Germany – an ally that revealed itself to be an uncertain friend. In order to chronicle a complete portrayal of the situation, it is also necessary to discuss the complex relationships in that region, and the impact of both resistance and collaboration in the theatre of war. This topic has to be examined with a critical eye and by a comparison of historiographies in order to understand all the differences of identity (e.g. political and cultural), the ideologies, and the ethnic differences in the borderland between these nations. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu ABSTRACT BYZANTINE ASYMMETRIC WARFARE IN LIGHT OF DE VELITATIONE BELLICA This article deals with the signifi cance of asymmetric warfare in the mountainous terrain during the Byzantine-Arab Wars in the 10th century. De velitatione bellica (the primary source) remains a unique kind of theoretical work which stems from the author’s own experience in minor engage- ments with enemy raids. The tactics described in the treatise are most likely the result of decades of evolution in frontier warfare on the mountainous Byzantine-Arab border. As such, they are an invaluable testament to the medieval understanding of asymmetric warfare. Thanks to the author of the treatise we know how the Romans/Byzantines repelled enemy invasions and halted the ad- vance of large forces into their own territory. This makes De velitatione bellica a valuable resource, useful for the understanding of the 10th-century confl ict between the Byzantine Empire and the Hamdanids. Key words: Hamdanids, Byzantium, military treatises, De vellitatione bellica, assymetric warfare, the Phokas dynasty Since the earliest days of history there have been situations when a smaller force would face off against a numerically superior enemy. It wasn’t uncommon for David to achieve victory over Goliath, but that always required extra eff ort and ingenuity from the weaker side. Usually, instead of rushing into a pitched battle, the defenders would look for ways to negate the advantages of the other army.
