A Bibliography of Seabirds of the Caribbean Region 2009 A Bibliography of Seabirds of the Caribbean Region Compiled by James W. Wiley and Floyd E. Hayes This bibliography contains most, but by no means all, of the literature on seabirds in the West Indies. The area covered extends beyond the Greater West Indies as defined by Bond (1980)--that is, the Bahama Islands; the Greater and Lesser Antilles, south to Barbados and Grenada; and the extralimital islands of San Andrés (St. Andrew), Providencia (Old Providence), and the Swan Islands--to include the additional islands addressed in the present volume. The listing therefore includes literature on seabirds in the Dutch islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao; Trinidad and Tobago; several islands off Venezuela; and Bermuda. As defined for this volume by Bradley and Norton, seabirds include species in the families Procellariidae, Hydrobatidae, Phaethontidae, Sulidae, Pelecanidae, Fregatidae, Laridae, and Alcidae (table 31.1). The bibliography includes references from 1526 to 2007 but excludes most of James Bond's Check-lists and Supplements; regional reports that appear in American Birds, Audubon Field Notes, National Audubon Society Field Notes, and North American Birds; and many general references for the region. Several references given are not restricted to the subject region or taxonomic group and are included because they are cited by chapter contributors. Multiple references by the same author(s) published in the same year and cited withinthis volume are distinguished by a letter following the year of publication (e.g., 1980a, 1980b). A total of 1,538 references is included. Acknowledgments Many people and institutions have helped in several ways in the production of the bibliography. Several deserve special recognition for their contributions and encouragement: Lynda Garrett and Wanda Manning, Patuxent Wildlife Research Center; Jo Anne Feheley, U.S. Department of Agriculture-Forest Service, Institute of Tropical Forestry; Vivian Fuentes, Puerto Rican Agriculture Experiment Station; Dr. Eduardo Cardona, Puerto Rico Department of Natural 1 A Bibliography of Seabirds of the Caribbean Region 2009 Resources; Rodolfo Vera and Edith Aguado Figueiras, Biblioteca M. "Bud" Owre, University of Miami, who in 1979 insisted that Wiley compile a bibliography on West Indian birds. Finally, we thank the many authors who generously provided copies of their publications for our examination and inclusion. 2 A Bibliography of Seabirds of the Caribbean Region 2009 Bibliography A., J.
