All students are asked to come to school without uniform on that day and pay a £1 donation for the privilege of wearing their non-uniform clothes. This year we have opted for a ‘spotty’ theme for this non-uniform day, if your child has an item of clothing which is spotty; please encourage them to wear it to show their support for ‘Children in Need’. Please could I request your support by sending your child with a £1 donation. This will be given to the Form Tutor in Ready2Learn time. May I remind you that students should not wear any item of clothing which is deemed offensive or immodest and must be suitable for a day’s work in school. Piercings should not be worn because of health and safety issues and your child should not be restricted in taking a full part in lessons because of the clothes he / she is wearing on that day. Please note that P.E kit must be bought in for those who have a timetabled P.E lesson on that day. Year 11 students who have a mock interview on this day must come to school in their smart work-like attire. I am sure the students will all enjoy the day and thank you in advance for your support. Dear Parent/Carer, You May Be Aware That Recent Government Policy Has
Dear Parent/Carer, You may be aware that recent government policy has finally acknowledged that some regions in the country receive far less funding for education than others, Torbay being one of these. The government proposed a national funding formula to address this inequity and this would have meant that our schools received funding which is more in line with schools across the country. However, we are writing to make you aware of a consultation document, available via https://www.torbay.gov.uk/media/11894/dsg-higher-needs-block-consultation-document.pdf, which proposes to remove much of this desperately needed funding from our five schools in order to address Torbay’s financial pressures. The local authority are proposing to take money which was targeted for our five schools in order to fund the education of children outside mainstream education. This is a significant sum of over three quarters of a million pounds, which equates to twenty teachers across the five schools. We are therefore writing to all of our parents so that you can make your voices heard should you feel that this is unacceptable. By clicking on the above link, you can access the consultation documents. The key question in the document is question four, which asks whether you support the virement application (i.e. the request to transfer money from one budget to another) to deal with Torbay’s deficit budget position. The combined secondary non-selective schools’ response to this is that we do not support the virement application. The reason for this is that it is inherently unfair as it will continue to maintain the underfunding of schools’ in Torbay.

Transport policy statement for learners aged 16-18 in further education and continuing learners with learning difficulties and or disabilities aged 19 and over from September 2017 1. What is the purpose of this policy statement? Torbay has an established public transport network that enables students to access post-16 provision in and around Torbay. This statement explains the circumstances when the council and post-16 sixth forms/colleges will provide assistance with the cost of accessing this network, and the assistance available for students who are not able to access public transport due to a learning difficulty or disability. It also directs students to other assistance that may be available directly from sixth forms/colleges. 2. What are the criteria for assistance? Assistance from the local authority There is no automatic entitlement to free home to school or college transport once a student is over 16. A bus pass can be purchased through Stagecoach in Torbay for £180 per term. The local authority provides assistance for some students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities This is individually assessed and detailed information can be found in Section 5. Otherwise local authority assistance is only given on an exceptional basis. Students from families on low income can apply to their school or college for bursary funding to assist with their travel costs. For many students this is discretionary and schools/colleges will assist in different ways. Where the route from a student’s home to the public transport network is considered unsafe, the local authority will provide transport to that point free of charge.
