ANNOUNCEMENTS Next Board Meeting Tuesday, May 7, 2013 7:00 PM Catonsville High School Exhibit A TENTATIVE MINUTES BOARD OF EDUCATION OF BALTIMORE COUNTY, MARYLAND Tuesday, March 5, 2013 The Board of Education of Baltimore County met in closed session at 4:40 p.m. at Greenwood. President Lawrence E. Schmidt, Esquire, and the following Board members were present: Mr. Michael H. Bowler, Cornelia Bright Gordon, Esquire, Mr. Michael J. Collins, Mr. Charles McDaniels, Jr., Mr. George J. Moniodis, Mr. H. Edward Parker, and Mr. David Uhlfelder. In addition, Dr. S. Dallas Dance, Superintendent of Schools, and staff members were present. Mr. Schmidt reminded Board members of community functions and Board of Education events scheduled in February and March. Pursuant to the Annotated Code of Maryland, State Government Articles, §§10- 508(a)(1), (a)(7), and (a)(8) and upon motion of Ms. Bright Gordon, seconded by Mr. McDaniels, the Board commenced its closed session at 4:51p.m. CLOSED SESSION MINUTES The Board of Education of Baltimore County, Maryland, met in closed session at 4:40 p.m. at Greenwood. President Lawrence E. Schmidt, Esquire, and the following Board members were present: Mr. Michael H. Bowler, Cornelia Bright Gordon, Esquire, Mr. Michael J. Collins, Mr. Charles McDaniels, Jr., Mr. George J. Moniodis, Mr. H. Edward Parker, and Mr. David Uhlfelder. In addition, Dr. S. Dallas Dance, Superintendent of Schools, and the following staff members were present: Mr. Kevin A. Hobbs, Deputy Superintendent; Ms. Michele O. Prumo, Chief of Staff; Mr. Michael G. Mychael Dickerson, Chief Communications Officer; Dr. Lisa Grillo, Chief Human Resources Officer; Dr. Alpheus Arrington, Director, Human Resources; Margaret-Ann F. Nussbaum, Esquire, Counsel to the Board of Education; Ms. Debi Decker, Executive Assistant to the Board;, and Ms. Brenda Stiffler, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent. Mr. George Duque, Staff Relations Manager, provided Board members with an update on collective bargaining matters and the changes to all four Master Agreements. Thank you! • Kim Beard with Yara Cheikh’s help has contacted Dulaney High School, Loch Raven High School, and Towson High School to share information about the $500.00 scholarship that is available at each school to a senior that is a RMS alumna/alumnus. Interested seniors can reach out to their guidance counselors to apply for the scholarship. The PTA will present the scholarship at their awards ceremonies. • The RMS school directory was delivered last week to the students. Daily morning rituals. The sense of isolation created by the pandemic. The enduring legacy of a family home. A bedroom magically tidying itself. The creativity teachers employ to teach virtually. Those are just a few of the subjects explored by the award- winning films in this year’s Baltimore County Public Schools Film Expo. In its sixth year, the BCPS Film Expo is Baltimore County's largest student film competition, receiving more than 130 entries from two dozen schools. In lieu of an in-person screening, this year organizers hosted an online festival featuring winning films and commentary from expo judges. The entire presentation can be seen online from the BCPS Livestream page. “Our students always impress me with their creativity, determination, and intelligence,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Darryl L. Williams. “Many thanks to our educators for teaching the skills demonstrated in these films and for encouraging student participation. Baltimore County Public Schools is excited to announce that it will again host a half-day “Orientation Day" on Friday, August 30, 2019, for students entering Grade 6 for the 2019-2020 school year. Students will participate in a wide variety of activities – designed based on student feedback – to become more familiar with their new school setting prior to the start of school. Students will review their class schedules, visit their lockers, take school tours, and meet all their teachers and the school counselors. Transportation will be provided for those students who are scheduled to take a bus to school. Those students will be picked up at their assigned bus stops at their regularly scheduled times and will be transported home at the end of the half-day schedule. A complimentary lunch will be served to all participating students, and students will be able to add funds to their cafeteria accounts in preparation for the first day of school. The Orientation Day is for students only and will not replace other school-based student-parent orientation activities. More detailed information regarding the Orientation Day, such as specific bus stops, hours of the morning half-day, student schedules, and the agenda for the day, will be included in our “Welcome Back" correspondence in early August 2019.
