Baltimore County Public Schools provides transportation to and from middle school magnet programs for students who reside within the established transportation zone of the magnet program. Transportation is provided from a limited number of pick-up points located at designated school sites. Parents are responsible for providing transportation for their students to and from their designated pick-up point.

NOTE: Pick-up points do not fall under the same guidelines as regular bus stops with regard to distance and walking conditions. In addition, supervision is not provided by the school system at the pick-up points.

(See back cover.)  Obtain and read Superintendent’s Rule 6400: Magnet Programs.

Select Programs of Interest  Consider student’s interests, talents, and abilities.  Read magnet program descriptions in this magnet brochure. Step 2  Visit Magnet Office Web site (www.bcps.org/offices/omp) for FAQs and other information about programs of interest.  Attend magnet showcase events to learn about programs of interest.  Be aware of entry grade-level restrictions (applicants to Grade 6 ONLY), geographic location, and transportation availability.

Carefully Complete Application  Read and follow ALL directions carefully. Complete each section of the application.  If applying by mail, print information neatly in blue or black ink. Write numbers clearly.  Select no more than THREE (3) programs on the application. Mark selections carefully. Step 3  Ensure paper application is signed and dated by parent.

Be Prepared to Accept or Decline Magnet Seat Offers  There are no magnet assessments for middle school programs. Eligible students will either receive a seat offer or be placed on a wait list.  Magnet lotteries will be run in February 2017. Step 5  Magnet decision letters will be mailed by March 9, 2017 (date subject to change).  Parents must accept or decline a seat offer by the identified deadline or the offer will be revoked.  Once initial seat offers have been accepted or declined, available seats will be offered to students on the wait list for the program. Parents receiving wait-list offers will have three (3) calendar days to respond to the offer. Failure to respond will result in forfeiture of the seat, and the placement will be offered to the next student on the wait list.

NOTE: Applications postmarked or received without a legible postal date stamp after November 18, 2016, will be considered late and will not be processed.
