2018 Campaign Wrap-Up 2018 CAMPAIGN WRAP-UP Celebrating Schools and Communities across Maryland that helped reduce stigma and raise awareness around the importance of children’s mental health. > CAMPAIGN HIGHLIGHTS 2018This wasyear the the 10th Campaign year of hadthe record Campaignhigh participation and our reachfrom 552 expanded schools greatly fromacross Allegany, the state Annethrough Arundel, our Champions,Baltimore events City, Baltimore,and social Calvert, media effortsCaroline, during AwarenessCarroll, Cecil, Week, Charles, May 6-12. Dorchester, Frederick, Harford, This year Howard,the Campaign Kent, Montgomery,had record high participationPrince George’s, from 485 Queen schools. Anne’s, The CampaignSaint Mary’s, had participationSomerset, Talbot, of 221,236+Washington, students in schoolsWicomico from and all over the state. Worcester Counties. 190 Community Organizations from jurisdictions across the state raised awareness of childrens mental health in 2018. These organizations brought the Campaign’s message to a diverse audience of families, caregivers, educators, providers and community members. In May, the Campaign reached 61,113+ through Facebook and Twitter. The Campaign distributed 230,991 Awareness Items (including pencils, bracelets, posters, bookmarks) and 63,243 Campaign Resources (including Educator & Family Resource Kits, Brochures). 1 > SCHOOL CHAMPIONS Maryland schools were invited to participate in the Campaign by becoming a School Champion. School Champion Coordinators were responsible for organizing an awareness raising or educational activity for Awareness Week. The purpose of the draft is to assign amateur baseball players to major league teams. The draft order is determined based on the previous season's standings, with the team possessing the worst record receiving the first pick. Eligible amateur players include graduated high school players who have not attended college, any junior or community college players, and players at four-year colleges and universities three years after first enrolling or after their 21st birthdays (whichever occurs first). From 1966-1986, a January draft was held in addition to the June draft targeting high school players who graduated in the winter, junior college players, and players who had dropped out of four-year colleges and universities. To date, there have been 1,170 Maryland players selected in the First-Year Player Drafts either from a Maryland High School (337), Maryland College (458), Non-Maryland College (357), or a Maryland amateur baseball club (18). The most Maryland selections in a year was in 1970 (38) followed by 1984 (37) and 1983 (36). The first Maryland selection was Jim Spencer from Andover High School with the 11th overall selection in the inaugural 1965 June draft.
