THE MAYFLOWER APPOINTS LINDSEY VANDENTOORN AS EXECUTIVE CHEF First female chef at The Mayflower Hotel will lead brand new food and beverage team

Washington, DC (October 24, 2019) - The Mayflower Hotel, part of The and one of DC’s most storied properties, announced today the creation of a new food and beverage team. At the helm of this team is the hotel’s new executive chef, Lindsey VandenToorn. Chef VandenToorn is the hotel’s first female executive chef to hold this honor of Mayflower Hotel’s top toque. Chef VandenToorn brings over 10 years of culinary experience with and will lead the catering, in-room dining programs as well as Edgar Kitchen & Bar. The new team includes Christopher Reed as executive sous chef, Marc Rios as creative director of mixology and spirits and managing partner Madison Fredricks as general manager of Edgar Kitchen & Bar.

A Grand Rapids native, Chef VandenToorn started with Marriott International as a kitchen supervisor at the JW Marriott Grand Rapids and quickly rose through the culinary ranks holding several leadership positions and responsibilities including opening the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC as senior banquet chef. Chef VandenToorn’s previous role was the executive sous chef for the Americas where she filled various roles as executive chef, chef de cuisine at multiple properties and brands across the nation including the new Marriott Marquis Houston.

Madison Fredricks, General Manager, Edgar Kitchen & Bar Madison Fredricks will work hand-in-hand with Lindsey VandenToorn overseeing the operations and service of Edgar Kitchen & Bar. Fredricks began his career with Marriott International in 2012 as a front desk supervisor at the Renaissance New Orleans Arts Hotel. During his time with Marriott, Fredricks has risen through the ranks holding a variety of positions in several disciplines; such as assistant housekeeping manager at the New Orleans Marriott, Washington Marriott Georgetown’s operations manager, director of services at the Newark Airport Marriott and most recently assistant general manager at the Residence Inn Alexandria Old Town/Duke Street.

Christopher Reed, Executive Sous Chef, The Mayflower Hotel Christopher Reed will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of culinary department. Before joining The Mayflower Hotel, Reed was the opening executive chef of the Eaton Hotel Washington, DC. In that role, Reed was responsible for managing the day-to-day culinary operations of the seven different outlets at Eaton Hotel. Throughout his 23 year career, Reed has held many senior positions at many different and restaurants from luxury properties such as the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, The Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City, Todd Grey’s Watershed Washington, DC and Four Seasons Houston to larger hotels such as the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel and the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC.

Marc Rios, Creative Director, Mixology & Spirits, The Mayflower Hotel Marc Rios is responsible for leading the creative direction of the hotel’s beverage program and the redesign of the evolving cocktail, wine and beer menu at Edgar Bar + Kitchen. Marc Rios began his restaurant career holding various positions with Chicago’s Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants at Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab. Rios joined Marriott International in 2015 as bar and beverage manager at the JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona; where he oversaw and revamped the beverage program at the resort’s six food and beverage outlets.
