This research was conducted in the Mebidangro area by using qualitative which focused on the problems that existed at the time of the research or the actual problems as well as the facts about the problems being investigated as they were, accompanied by sufficient rational interpretation. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews and limited group discussions. The character of the Mebidangro implementing organs has not shown an orderly working mechanism, where the two main components of the character of the implementing organs, namely the SOP and the division of tasks / authorities between the provincial government and district / city governments as well as between district / city governments throughout the Mebidangro region do not exist. -

6 CHAPTER 2 THEORITICAL FOUDNATION 2.1 Theories of Picture Book A picture book combines visual and verbal narratives in one medium which is in a book format. The illustration can be made with different range of media, digitally or manually (Sipe,1998). Picture book is called a picture book, because the illustrations dominate the text and they are both equally important (Summer,2013). Yet, there are several picture books are told completely by pictures only. For this particular project, the use of a well-balanced text and illustrations to introduce young readers about animals is necessary, because it will be an educational picture book for young readers not just a story book. 2.2 Theories of Picture Book Roles Picture book is written to help children discover about their surroundings, it is also a written artifact that transmit cultural information and values their surroundings. Books that children read and learn with, including used in classrooms for educational, can impact their self-awareness (Chaudhri & Teale,2013) and help them to establish a positive self-identity (Hall,2008; Levin,2007). Picture book can be an educational tool, most children can interact with it. Consequently picture books contents are matters (Koss,2015). Therefore, picture book is chosen as the main media to educate and raise young readers early awareness toward endemic animals of Indonesia. This picture book will include colorful and contemporary illustrations to gain young readers attention. It will also include fun facts about each of the endangered animal with simple words and short paragraph to help young children 7 understand the information easily. -

CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of the Study Each year, the number of tourists visiting Indonesia has kept on growing. It is shown at the official website of the Ministry of Tourism, Republic of Indonesia statistic’s data regarding the number of tourists visiting Indonesia from other countries. Year 2017 compared with year 2018, the number of tourists had increased from 14,039,799 (2017) to 15,610,305 (2018) which is 5.3%. Year 2018 compared to year 2019, the number of tourists had increased from 15,610,305 to 16,106,954 which is 1.57%. Zooming in to each month in 2019 compared with 2018, the statistic has shown an upward curves pattern although there were several downward curves. Compared to 2018, last year (2019), Medan number of tourists who came through Kualanamu International Airport, has increased by 6.51%. Data on the composition and structure of a totaltor of 657 mixed- species foraging bird flocks were collected fi:om January to Decemcember, 2012 in Huai Kha Khaeng Wiidlife Sanctuary, Thailand. The flocks could be dividlivided into two types: those composed of small-sized birds and those composed of mediurrdium-sized birds. The species most prevalent in flocks included gregarious "leader"er" species, such as laughingtluLrshes (Garrulax spp.), the conspicuous anti-predaredator alalm-calling ''serltinel" species such as drongos (.Dictulus spp.). and the BlacBlack-naped Monarch (Hypothymis dzwea). Most species showed a lower mixed-flocking.ing propensity during the breeding seasot. Several species in medium-sized bird flocksrks showeds significant behavioral adiustments in which they foraged closer to the groundnd irin mixed flocks led by (ground-feeding) laughingthrushes. -

Thailand Highlights 14th to 26th November 2019 (13 days) Trip Report Siamese Fireback by Forrest Rowland Trip report compiled by Tour Leader: Forrest Rowland Trip Report – RBL Thailand - Highlights 2019 2 Tour Summary Thailand has been known as a top tourist destination for quite some time. Foreigners and Ex-pats flock there for the beautiful scenery, great infrastructure, and delicious cuisine among other cultural aspects. For birders, it has recently caught up to big names like Borneo and Malaysia, in terms of respect for the avian delights it holds for visitors. Our twelve-day Highlights Tour to Thailand set out to sample a bit of the best of every major habitat type in the country, with a slight focus on the lush montane forests that hold most of the country’s specialty bird species. The tour began in Bangkok, a bustling metropolis of winding narrow roads, flyovers, towering apartment buildings, and seemingly endless people. Despite the density and throng of humanity, many of the participants on the tour were able to enjoy a Crested Goshawk flight by Forrest Rowland lovely day’s visit to the Grand Palace and historic center of Bangkok, including a fun boat ride passing by several temples. A few early arrivals also had time to bird some of the urban park settings, even picking up a species or two we did not see on the Main Tour. For most, the tour began in earnest on November 15th, with our day tour of the salt pans, mudflats, wetlands, and mangroves of the famed Pak Thale Shore bird Project, and Laem Phak Bia mangroves. -

Lalhruaizela3 1,2Department of Zoology, Mizoram University 3Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, Mizoram University E-mail: *[email protected] Abstract—We conducted an avian survey to assess the avian diversity of Mizoram University campus, Aizawl for a period of 24 months. During the study a total of 3,555 no of individuals of 189 species of birds belonging to 43 families were recorded. The family Muscicapidae represented the highest species composition with 28 species followed by family Timaliidae and of MZU campus and its adjacent area, 31 (16.4%) species are winter visitors, 15 (7.9%) species are summer visitor, and two species namely, Hooded pitta (Pitta sordid) and Forest wagtail (Dendronanthus indicus) are passer migrants. The variation calculated was 3.286 and species evenness index was 0.62. The detailed of avian fauna of campus recoded and the need of conservation actions are discussed in length. Bird Abundances in Primary and Secondary Growths in Papua New Guinea: a Preliminary Assessment

Email: <[email protected] Abstract Papua New Guinea is the third largest remaining area of tropical forest after the Amazon and Congo basins. However, the growing intensity of large-scale slash-and-burn agriculture and logging call for conservation research to assess how local people´s traditional land-use practices result in conservation of local biodiversity, of which a species-rich and diverse component is the avian community. With this in mind, I conducted a preliminary survey of birds in small-scale secondary plots and in adjacent primary forest in Wanang Conservation Area in Papua New Guinea. I used mist-netting, point counts, and transect walks to compare the bird communities of 7-year-old secondary growth, and neighboring primary forest. The preliminary survey lasted 10 days and was conducted during the dry season (July) of 2008. I found no significant differences in summed bird abundances between forest types. However, species richness was higher in primary forest (98 species) than in secondary (78 species). The response of individual feeding guilds was also variable. Two habitats differed mainly in presence of canopy frugivores, which were more abundant (more than 80%) in primary than in secondary forests. A large difference (70%) was found also in understory and mid-story insectivores. Species occurring mainly in secondary forest were Hooded Butcherbird (Cracticus cassicus), Brown Oriole (Oriolus szalayi), and Helmeted Friarbird (Philemon buceroides). -
