PROPERTIES OF THERMALLY MODIFIED WOOD DECK BOARDS

WHAT IS THERMALLY MODIFIED WOOD? The thermal finishing of the wood improves its properties: native species are made more durable and dimensionally stable thanks to thermal modification.

THIS IS HOW IT‘S DONE During the thermal finishing process, high tempe- ratures of up to 220 °C and steam are used. This finishing process also means that the thermal woods remain completely natural and free of any chemical additives. Particularly in our premium products, this finishing process is carried out in very careful consideration of the natural chemical and physical properties of the wood. Thanks to the patented, step-by-step thermal modification process, our thermally modified woods have a service life that is up to 3 x longer. This means that significant costs can be saved over the entire life cycle of the wood.

PROPERTIES OF SOLID WOOD DECK BOARDS

A VARIETY OF ADVANTAGES Decks made from solid wood are best suited for balconies, pool surrounds, and terraces. The rain flows between the deck boards and grooves together with dirt, and the surface remains dry and clean. When you walk on the deck your steps are lightly cushioned and the deck surface feels warm. The grooves between the deck boards absorb sound and so contribute to the acoustic comfort.

CHOOSING THE TYPE OF WOOD It needs to be remembered that solid-wood decks are subjected to significant stresses as a result of the weathering. This is the reason that all types of wood over time take on a colour from the grey spectrum. But this is not a flaw in any Thermo Pine Q-Grip way. It is the natural change of the wood surface, but without any damage actually being caused. Through intensive care and maintenance, the beautiful appearance and the natural life OVERVIEW span can be increased by means of regularly treating surfaces. RENEWABLE NATURAL PRODUCT

WHAT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN IN NO POTENTIALLY HARMFUL CONSTITUENTS CONSIDERATION? The base for a long-term terrace surface made of SIMPLE TO PROCESS solid wood is the right construction. Wood can have a long life span outdoors as long as it can TURNS GREY DUE TO THE NATURAL INFLUENCE OF THE WEATHER dry again as quickly as possible. Once created, surfaces, supporting structures and drainage CRACKS AND THE DANGER OF WOOD SPLINTERS ! channels of the terrace need to be inspected annually and cleaned if this should be necessary. In our product range you will find different variations of surface designs. There are flat, corrugated and grooved, as well as combined surfaces, e.g. planed flat on the one side and corrugated on the other. Choose the variation that you find most attractive. The choice should be made less against the background that the corrugation of the surface is aimed at reducing the danger of slipping when wet. Because this positive effect may apply diagonally to the perfiling with respect to reducing the danger of slipping. In the longitudinal direction of the deck boards, however, the danger of slipping is increased due to the ‹rail effect› of the grooves.
