Nur Akbar Rasyid Supervisor II : Hj. Nahdhiyah This research discussed about State conflict in the movie Black Hawk Down. This research aimed to describe State conflict in the movie Black Hawk Down. This research used on Folarin‟s theory. This research was descriptive qualitative method. The data were taken from the movie Black Hawk Down. The writer used note taking as the instrument in order to get the valid data. The findings, the writer found the description of state conflict in the movie which in general could be described into three categories of state conflict. Those are Intra-state conflict, Inter-state conflict and Extra-state conflict. In the movie “Black Hawk Down” the writer found eight data that described Intra-state conflict, one datum that described Extra-state conflict and two data that described Inter-state conflict. Keywords: Conflict, State conflict, Black Hawk Down CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION This chapter consists of background, problem statement, objective, significance, and scope of the research. A. Background Nurgiyantoro (2010: 12) says that literature is an activity of expressing, feeling, though, idea, spirit, belief, and other expression that use language as a basic element. Literature is a way of communication, which is very important in our social life. Klarer (2004:1) says that in most cases, literature is referred to as the entirety of written expression, with the restriction that not every written document can be categorized as literature in the more exact sense of the word. So, the writer will conclude that Literature can be said as a creative writing by an author with aesthetic values which makes literature regarded as an art where the author written all their ideas, it is from their own life or their creativity. Movie is a moving image (moving picture). According to Badar (2011; 1) movie is defined as a result of cultural and artistic expression tool, or movie is one kind of literary works which gives entertainment and has unique characteristics than the others because it can be enjoyed by audiences, audio and visually. In this case, movie use moving figures and sound to tell the stories. It does not only give entertainment but also gives information and knowledge to us. Moreover, some movies adapt the story of true events, and contain full of messages about life. Another definition of movie also given in Merriam Webster (2014) who explains movie asrecording of moving images that tells a story and 1 2 people watch on a screen or television or a story or even recorded by a camera as a set of moving images and shown in a theater or on television; a motion picture. So that, every movie is interesting and entertaining, and make the audiences think of it. Every works that exist is unique and interesting, until there are many ways which can be used to convey ideas about the real story in the world. As we know, the types of movie are divided according to the contents of the presentation of the movie, movie which is intended for adults usually containing

Interview with MAJ Jeff Struecker Combat Studies Institute Fort Leavenworth, Kansas UNCLASSIFIED Abstract MAJ Jeff Struecker served as a chaplain with the 82nd Airborne Division and Ranger Regiment in multiple places in Iraq and Afghanistan from 2003 through 2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). In this July 2010 interview, MAJ Struecker discusses the challenges of being a chaplain in a combat situation, the benefits his 13 years prior enlisted gave, and the difficulties he faced in being everywhere he felt he needed to be on any given deployment. MAJ Struecker concludes his interview with the observation, "I'll tell you what, I've had a chance to go back and watch some of America's greatest warriors; some of the best warriors that our nation has ever produced and I'm amazed at their resiliency. I'm amazed at their commitment to the cause of freedom. These guys, for the most part, if they've been around the SOC, specifically the JTF since before 9/11, they have not had a break from war since 2001. If you think back on it now, and as a historian you'll understand this, we have not asked that of anybody in the history of our country, certainly not with an all volunteer force. We've forced some people through the draft to do that but we've never done it with an all volunteer force before.

    CHAPTER 1: HAIL MARY, THEN DOOM STAFF SGT. Matt Eversmann's lanky frame was fully extended on the rope for what seemed too long on the way down. Hanging from a hovering Blackhawk helicopter, Eversmann was a full 70 feet above the streets of Mogadishu . His goggles had broken, so his eyes chafed in the thick cloud of dust stirred up by the bird's rotors. It was such a long descent that the thick nylon rope burned right through the palms of his leather gloves. The rest of his Chalk, his squad, had already roped in. Nearing the street, through the swirling dust below his feet, Eversmann saw one of his men stretched out on his back at the bottom of the rope. He felt a stab of despair. Somebody's been shot already! He gripped the rope hard to keep from landing on top of the guy. It was Pvt. Todd Blackburn, at 18 the youngest Ranger in his Chalk, a kid just months out of a Florida high school. He was unconscious and bleeding from the nose and ears. The raid was barely under way, and already something had gone wrong. It was just the first in a series of worsening mishaps that would endanger this daring mission. For Eversmann, a five-year veteran from Natural Bridge, Va. , leading men into combat for the first time, it was the beginning of the longest day of his life. Just 13 minutes before, three miles away at the Ranger's base on the Mogadishu beach, Eversmann had said a Hail Mary at liftoff.
