Location map of Mogok Gemstone Tract Index Mogok Gemstone Area -The Mogok gemstone tract is bounded by 905272 acre(3663.59 sq km) and present gem extracted area is about 2107 acre (247.1 acre= 1 sq km), has already extracted about 2,066,104 Kg (1 Kg=5000 carat) of total gemstone since 28-2-1996 by 150 Nos of local companies. -Mong shu gemstone aera is bounded by 420947 acre (1703.55 sq km) and present gems extracted area is about 253 acre , has already extracted about 90,867 kg of total gemstone since 5-3-1996 by 39 Nos of local companies. - (All of these data are from MGE.) -After the Myanmar Gemstone Law was being enacted in 1995 , the State-owned gemstone production blocks were transferred to Union of Myanmar Economic Holding Limited and permitted to the local and private companies. -In 2007 , gemstone production and profit sharing were allowed to local and private companies as joint venture with Myanmar Gems Enterprise. -Moreover 453 amounts of gemstone blocks were allowed license issue as small scale production in 2011. -At present ,there is no government sector of gemstone production blocks and all of them are private sectors in our country. Mogok Metamorphic Belt -Mogok Gemstone Tract and the gemstone occurrences of Thabeikkyin and Singu Townships are situated in/nearby Mogok Metamorphic Belt. -The host rock of marble is dominantly found in these gemstone occurrences and they can be found in contact metamorphic zone of marble and igneous rock units . -In Mogok gemstone tract, the marble rock unit lies narrow and parallel of another rock units and elongated about 10 miles from North to South and average thickness about 10 feet is folding as English letter ( S ). -Ruby is also occurs in marble host rock units of Mong shu ( ruby contains central blue core ) , Pyinlon ( mostly resemble as Mogok ruby) and Nan yar seik (medium grained size and clarity of look like as Mogok ruby) regions. -There are four types of gemstone production; a)Large scale production means gemstone production up to 10 years including the area of block, method of extraction and machinery to be used within the gemstone tract which may be used commercially according to the quantity of gemstone occurrence and is designed by the Ministry by the Union Government. b)Medium scale production means gemstone production up to 5 years including the area of block, method of extraction and machinery to be used within the gemstone tract which has moderate quantity of gemstone occurrence and may produce commercially, and is designated by the Ministry by notification with the approval of the Union Government. c)Small scale production means gemstone production as less investment and expenditure up to 3 years including the area of block, method of extraction and machinery to be used within or outside the gemstone tract which has less quantity of gemstone occurrence and is designed by the Ministry by notification with the approval of the Union Government; d)Subsistence production means gemstone production up to one year by using ordinary hand tools or machinery not more than the horse power prescribed by the rules issued under this law within or outside the gemstone tract designed by the Ministry in coordination with the Ministry and the relevant Region or State government under approval of the Union Government; We confirm and extend the known distributions and habitats of both N. mandalayensis and N. kaouthia in Upper Myanmar. Clinical symptoms of local and systemic envenoming by N. mandalayensis are described for the first time. These included local swelling, blistering and necrosis and systemic neurotoxicity. More information is needed about the clinical phenotype and management of bites by N. mandalayensis, the commoner of the two cobras in Upper Myanmar.

  • Spatial Analysis of Rainfall Variation in Dry Zone of Myanmar
Spatial Analysis of Rainfall Variation in Dry Zone of Myanmar Dr Khin Thein Oo* Abstract The Dry Zone in Central Myanmar covers large parts of the 27 townships of Mandalay Region, 19 townships of Magway Region and 16 townships of lower Sagaing Region. The Dry Zone comprises the middle Ayeyarwady basin, centering at the Ayeyarwady- Chindwin confluence. The boundary of the Dry Zone is defined as the 40 inch-isohyet. The study is based on data collected from 34 rain guage stations during the period of 30 years (1986-20156). This paper aims to present the spatial distribution of seasonal rainfall in Dry Zone of Myanmar. Spatial databases were developed using UTM maps (Universal Transverse Mercator), and Google Earth downloaded maps as well as GPS field survey data for capturing point stations. The collected data has been proceeded and analyzed by using interpolation method with GIS software. In analyzing the long term average and annual rainfall, the annual rainfall of the region is 30.58 inches, of which the pre- monsoon , monsoon and post monsoon record 5.76 inches,17.93 inches and 6.49 inches respectively. Singu Township receives the highest rainfall of 37.3inches whereas Yenanchaung Township records the lowest rainfall of 22.55 inches. SintgaingTownship receives the highest variation in annual rainfall of 41.47 % and Meiktila records the lowest rainfall of 20.42%. It will be useful for determination of cropping pattern in general and the type of crop to be cultivated moreover it will be suggested for other economic activities. Key words: Dry Zone, isohyet, seasonal rainfall, pre-monsoon, monsoon, post- monsoon 1.
