Here are three programs held in November, December and January:

MEN’S SHELTER OF CHARLOTTE Temple Israel supports the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte’s mission to end homelessness in Charlotte by providing their guests with meals along with warm clothing and toiletries. We cooked healthy, delicious dinners at Temple Israel, and served them to over 300 total Men in need at the Statesville Ave Men’s Shelter on Sunday November 24 and Tuesday December 24, 2019 (XMAS Eve). We also brought 280 gifts of warm clothing and toiletries for each Men’s Shelter Guest. Special thanks to Eric Lerner for the Warm T Shirts, and to Publix & Trader Joe’s for Gifts Cards that offset the cost of some of the food. Many thanks to many (over 60) hard working congregants who cooked over 200 lbs. of Kosher Chicken, Vegetables and Pasta at TI, organized gifts, and served food at the shelter. Thank you to The Thropes for making over 120 homemade cookies served XMAS Eve. And thanks to the generosity of many, we raised over $1,200 in donations to fund these two dinners. Here are some great pictures from the event: (right column). To volunteer to help cook/serve for the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in Nov & Dec 2020, please contact: Jonathan Berger (704-995-1732 or [email protected]).

Into God’s Hand I Commit My Spirit The Solitary Flame of the Yahrzeit light is a silent tribute to the preciousness and eternity of the human soul. Attending services, reciting Kaddish and contributing to tzedakah (charity) are appropriate ways to commemorate your loved one’s memory.

If you are interested in purchasing a permanent Memorial Plaque and have it placed in our Memorial Gallery, please call the Clergy Office (980) 960-2379 for more information.

FUND SPOTLIGHT:

SHAI RICHARDSON CAMP SCHOLARSHIP FUND The Shai Richardson Camp Scholarship Fund was started by our Sunday morning minyanaires, and the name was changed to honor the devotion of one of our longtime congregational members, Shai Richardson. The goal of this fund is to help children attend a Jewish summer camp so they learn principles of Judaism, forge long-term friendships, and gain life skills.

26 KOL YISRAEL • FEBRUARY-MARCH 2020 templeisraelnc.org TEMPLE ISRAEL ENDOWMENT FUNDS Did you know that Temple Israel has nearly 20 endowment funds that help to support Temple Israel’s ongoing operational needs, specific program efforts and our Temple members through financial assistance and religious school scholarships? In addition, the Temple has more than 20 in-house funds that support the Temple’s outreach efforts to members, ongoing maintenance and repair needs, scholarships, holiday and annual programs, and other operational needs. Each month, dozens of Temple members and friends make contributions to these funds in honor or in memory of loved ones and friends. These generous gifts make it possible for our endowment and in-house funds to provide ongoing support to the Temple on an annual basis that supplements the operating budget and ensures that sufficient funding is available to meet the needs of our members. Thank you to all of the generous donors who regularly contribute to Temple Israel’s endowment and in-house funds. Your donations truly make a difference!
