1. Planning and logistics

1.1. Introduction

The 3nd Regional Stakeholders Workshop in Greece, of the CAPonLITTER project, was organized by PP5 – Region of Crete on 11th of June 2021. The 3rd workshop followed the implementation of the 1st and 2nd ones, with the use of Zoom platform.

Initially, consultations were held with the members of the Project Team of the Region of Crete, Mrs. Eleni Tzagkaraki, Mr. Vassilis Zisimopoulos and Mr. Michalis Chalkiadakis, in order to clarify the topics and needs for the organization of the web conference, following the toolkit sent by the lead partner.

In view of the requirements for the proper implementation of CAPonLITTER project workshop, the measures to fight the spread of COVID-19 virus and to achieve the maximum possible added value from the workshops, it was chosen to implement the event online, using the Zoom platform.

1.2. Communication

The stakeholders were invited through email messages by Region of Crete team. The invitation mail was sent by the coordinator of CAPonLITTER project for Region of Crete, Mrs. Eleni Tzagkaraki.

The invitation email contained information about the event, the agenda, a registration link and a link to a Google form that stakeholders could submit Good Practices that meet the criteria.

Good Practices submission form was open until Wednesday 2nd of June 2021, in order to exist sufficient time for their evalution.

1.3. Venue

Due to COVID-19 measures, the workshop was organized online using the Zoom platform.

1.4. Agenda (final)

The final agenda was formulated following the completion of the good practice collection process.

1.5. Registration

For the need of better organization of the workshop, the invited stakeholders were required to register for their participation in the workshop, through Zoom paltform.

The categorization of the participants is given in the following table:

The total number of the registrants were 35, however the final number of participants as registered by Zoom platform was 25. 2. Workshop activities At the beginning of the event, a short greeting was given by the Regional Advisor for International & European Relations, Mr. George Alexakis.

2.1. Project presentation

Mrs. Eleni Tzagkaraki, Project Coordinator (PP5 – Region of Crete) followed with an introductory presentation regarding CAPonLITTER project, its objectives, the consortium, Good Practices learnt through the implemented ILEs and the objectives of the workshop.

2.1.1. CLEAN TRASH system (CLAIM project – H2020) - ΕΛΚΕΘΕ

Mr. George Triantafyllidis and Mr. George Triantafyllou from HCMR (Hellenic Centre of Marine Research) presented the innovative technology of CLEAN TRASH system of CLAIM project (H2020), which deals with the treatment of waste in the marine environment, with emphasis on macro and microplastics, which can be installed at the river mouths.

2.1.2. Protocol for the sustainable management and development of the Mediterranean beaches– COSTA NOSTRUM

Following, the Protocol for the sustainable management and development of the Mediterranean beaches was presented by Mr. Victor Koumantakis, of the company Costa Nostrum.

2.1.3. Smart Green Bins for Beaches – AELIA Sustainable Engineering

Last but not least, the Good Practice “Smart Green Bins for Beaches”, of the company AELIA Sustainable Engineering, was presented.

2.1.4. Discussion

After the Good Practices presentations completion, a creative discussion followed, giving the floor to each participant. During the discussion, the importance of the implementation of respective Good Practices in the coastal areas of the Region of Crete was highlighted, in order to tackle marine litter pollution.
