The following information has been supplied by the Greek Aliens Bureau:

It is obligatory for all EU nationals to apply for a “Registration Certificate” (Veveosi Engrafis - Βεβαίωση Εγγραφής) after they have spent 3 months in (Directive 2004/38/EC).This requirement also applies to UK nationals during the transition period. This certificate is open- dated. You only need to renew it if your circumstances change e.g. if you had registered as unemployed and you have now found employment.

Below we outline some of the required documents for the most common cases. Please refer to the local Police Authorities for information on the regulations for freelancers, domestic employment and students. You should submit your application and required documents at your local Aliens Police (Tmima Allodapon – Τμήμα Αλλοδαπών, for addresses, contact telephone and opening hours see end); if you live outside go to the local police station closest to your residence. In all cases, original documents and photocopies are required. You should approach the Greek Authorities for detailed information on the documents required or further clarification. Please note that some authorities work by appointment and will request that you book an appointment in advance.

Required documents in the case of a working person: 1. Valid passport. 2. Two (2) photos. 3. Applicant’s proof of address [a document containing both the applicant’s name and address e.g. photocopy of the lease, public utility bill (DEH, OTE, EYDAP) or statement from Tax Office (Tax Return)]. If unavailable please see the requirements for hospitality. 4. Photocopy of employment contract. 5. Declaration (form provided by the police) stamped and signed by employer. Photocopy of the government gazette or the company's charter, if the company’s stamp does not mention the employer's name. 6. If the employer is a foreigner citizen, a photocopy of his/her valid passport and his/her residence permit.

In case of hospitality: 1. A hospitality declaration certified by a public authority (police). 2. Photocopy of the identity of the person hosting the applicant, if s/he is a Greek citizen; or photocopy of the passport / residence permit of the person hosting, if s/he is a foreigner citizen. 3. Host’s proof of address [a document containing both the host’s name and address e.g. photocopy of the house lease, public utility bill (DEH, OTE, EYDAP) or statement from Tax Office (Tax Return)].

In the case of members of spouses of Greek / EU citizens 1. Valid passport.

If the document is in a foreign language it needs to have the Apostille stamp; an official translation in Greek is required. 4. Declaration from Greek / EU spouse confirming the continuation of marriage and cohabitation (certified by the police or KEP). 5. Identity of Greek spouse or valid passport and Registration Certificate of EU citizen. 6. House lease, public utility bill (DEH, OTE, EYDAP) or Tax Office statement.

In the case of children: 1. Valid passport. 2. Two (2) photos. 3. Birth certificate or family status certificate. If the document is in a foreign language it needs to have the Apostille stamp; an official translation in Greek is required. 4. The father’s passport and Registration Certificate. 5. The mother’s passport and Registration Certificate. 6. Declarations (forms provided by the police) from the parents on the custody of the minor. 7. House lease, public utility bill (DEH, OTE, EYDAP) or Tax Office statement. NOTE: physical presence is required for children over 12 years old.

In the case of pensioners or unemployed applicants 1. Valid passport. 2. Two (2) photos. 3. Pensioners need to produce proof that they receive a pension (translated into Greek if it is in a foreign language). Alternatively, applicants need to produce proof of adequate funds to support themselves, e.g. Greek bank account booklet which must show a minimum balance of €4000, per person. 4. Greek health booklet or evidence of private health insurance. 5. House lease, public utility bill (DEH, OTE, EYDAP) or Tax Office statement.

The “Permanent Residence Certificate” (Engrafo Monimis Diamonis – Έγγραφο Μόνιμης Διαμονής) is a document available to all EU nationals. It is optional. You can apply after 5 years of legally living in Greece.

Required documents: 1. Valid passport. 2. Two (2) photos. 3. Previous Registration Certificate. 4. House lease, public utility bill (DEH, OTE, EYDAP) or Tax Office statement.
