In the bar We have Bournemouth vs Manchester United on the big screens at 12.30, after the game we will be showing Arsenal vs Liverpool followed by Wolves against Spurs.

On this day in Rovers history… In 1895 Rovers won 7-2 away at Marston Red Cross In 1928 in the Beds. Premier Cup, Kempston beat RAF Henlow by five goals to two. Rovers have actually played Dunstable Town on this date in 1962, however, Town won on that day by a margin of 8-2 This is Kempston’s first home league game to be played on a Saturday since Bedford Town in mid September. It is an opportunity for Rovers to improve their home record in the league this season. Dunstable Town gained promotion to the Southern League in 2014, going through the entire Spartan season unbeaten. They only briefly stayed in division one, winning back to back promotions (much to the chagrin of Kettering Town, ask some of the Town fans about that one). Town spent four seasons in the Premier Division of the Southern League, a twelfth place was the best that they could manage in that time. They finished bottom of the league last season, despite taking the relegation fight to the very last game of the campaign. Much was made of the money problems that the club had last season, very publicly admitting that they were not paying players at all in a bid to keep the club going. Kempston Rovers 135 years of Football History

Kempston Rovers were formed in 1884 and entered the Bedford & District League. Rover’s first league championship was won in 1908 and twelve months later Rover’s retained the title while also carrying off the Bedfordshire Senior Cup and North Beds Charity Cup. The Walnut Boys, the club’s official nickname, comes from the large walnut orchard in Kempston around the time of foundation. This identity is carried forward by one of the main supporters’ groups at the club, “The Nuts on Tour”. 1973 saw the start of a new era as Kempston relocated to a new ground further down Hillgrounds Road. A magnificent season saw the Walnut Boys storm to the Premier title losing only once in 32 games. A golden period in the club's history saw League Cup successes in 1975 and 1977; the Beds Senior Cup was again captured in 1977 while the Walnut Boys reached the last 16 of the FA Vase in 1975. In 1986, the club moved again, this time to the current ground, their third in the same road. Kempston last won the county’s highest honour, the Beds. Senior Cup, in 1992, the fourth time the trophy has come to Hillgrounds. In 2002 Kempston Rovers and Kempston Colts began an alliance to pool resources/personnel under the name AFC Kempston. The youth teams at Rovers still go by the name “Colts”, keeping the history of youth football in the town alive. The beginning of 2005 saw the start of major re-developments at Hillgrounds Road with the building of new changing facilities and the building of an artificial training pitch, which is available to book all year round for training sessions, small sided games or just a kick around with friends. The new ground facilities were completed in 2006 and along with a new stand; on-going ground improvements and the existing clubhouse refurbished and ready to hire for functions and events, Kempston now have some of the best facilities in the area for non-league football. Midway through the 2013-14 season James Stoyles and Gary Flinn took over the 1st Team managerial duties before, in 2015-16, Rovers won the United Counties Football League Premier Division, with a thrilling final win on the last day of the season, a campaign in which they only lost one league game. This resulted in promotion and saw us move into the Southern League Division One which represents the highest level we have attained within the FA pyramid system so far. Since promotion, the club has twice narrowly missed out on a place in the end of season promotion play offs. On both occasions, finishing above some of the more established sides in the division. The club currently operates one of the largest youth systems in the county, with over thirty sides at various age groups and a senior development side. There is a supporters’ club that holds various functions throughout the season to support the first team.

Kempston Rovers, 135 years in the making and we’re not done yet. Kempston Rovers Football Club

DTFC Management Team

1st Team Manager, Tony McCool. Tony has enjoyed a long and successful coaching and scouting career with clubs at the highest level, most recently at Norwich City & Bradford City respectively. Tony's own promising playing career came to a premature end due to a serious injury. Tony was a key figure in Mick Hartford's Luton Town coaching staff helping bring home the Johnson's Paint Trophy in front of 40,00 Lutonians at Wembley in April 2009. Knowledgeable and passionate about the game, among Tony’s special skill set is the development of young talent. The loss of two key players from last season’s squad in the close season, to professional clubs, where both players have signed professional contracts is testament, if any was needed, to the depth of ability this man possesses.

1st Team Coach and Football Advisor. Kevin Gallen. Kevin played nearly 400 first team games for QPR in two spells achieving cult status among R's fans. Kevin notched up 547 professional games all told and found the net 136 times. Kevin represented England at both U18 & U21 levels.

1st Team Coach. Gareth Jackson. Gareth was drafted in to assist Tony & Kevin having been a part of DTFC's Development squad management team last year. It was Gareth's holistic approach and associated talents which fitted Tony's vision of DTFC being a Pathway club for players and staff which paved the way for the transition. Gareth is a licensed UEFA B coach and a Level 2 Futsal coach who founded the local Futsal Team.

Physio. Josh Kent. Second season at Creasey Park for our popular and talented physio. DUNSTABLE TOWN FC History Part 1

The great escape towards Southern Premier League safety was so nearly secured in the last week of April 2018. Ultimately the heroics of Tony McCool’s unpaid players went down to the wire but events on and off the field concerning different opponents and rivals conspired, as in the traditions of the best Greek Tragedies, saw the relegation trap door open for Dunstable Town at 4 50 pm on Saturday 28th April away at Frome Town. Players sank to their knees as the emotion of the moment and the grim reality of the Club’s fate became unbearable for even the strongest of men.

The Club had gone throughout the season 2017-18 without a playing budget and without even being able to offer traveling expenses to players and staff. Every single person involved with the Club volunteered their services, time and expertise.

Nobody epitomised the spirit of Corinthian amateur more than Manager, Tony McCool, who not only worked hours most of us would collapse under, but regularly picked up the school minibus on a Friday, from our friends at Weatherfield Academy, drove it to and from away matches, cleaned it out on a Sunday and then took it back, refuelled, to Weatherfield Academy, on a Monday.

A proven track record of helping develop young players achieve their potential, Tony has coached at QPR, Norwich and hometown club, Luton and scouted for Bradford City. His knack of seeing players with potential and then developing them fully proven with the close season news that two of last season’s players, Peter Kioso and Andrew Osei-Bonsu, both secured professional contracts testament to McCool’s skills. DUNSTABLE TOWN FC History Part 2

In May 2017, the Club stood on the verge of folding as the (former) Chairman & Board resigned their posts in the belief that they had taken the Club as far as they could, with appeals for greater public support on match days falling largely on deaf ears. With their resignation and uncertainty about the Club’s future management and playing staff quickly followed, save for Gedeon Okito and John Sonuga.

Numerically small, but as passionate as any die-hard football supporter, a group of the Club’s fans organised themselves and took over the reins in order to save the Club from going under. With only enthusiasm and a passion for the Club to guide them this disparate group of local government officials, an accountant, a former bank manager and an educational consultant got to grips with the momentous task of running a football club competing at Step 3 in the pyramid.

Tony McCool appointed Gareth Jackson from the Development Team to be his number two, and with support and advice from former Luton & QPR legend, Kevin Gallen, a squad of hungry and talented players were assembled from a group of 200 trialists.

How many of those 200 players were aware of the Club’s rich history that boasts the presence of both George Best & Jeff Astle in the ranks of former notable players is not known. in more recent times wore the blue and white shirt with pride, and in the last couple of years the Club nurtured the emerging talents of Luke Pennell before his move to Dagenham & Redbridge where he won his first England C cap in the spring. DUNSTABLE TOWN FC History Part 3

Whilst last season was as tough as predicted, the Club has secured the services of 2/3rds of last season’s squad for this season and has put in place sufficient fund raising activities, and appointed a Commercial manager, to ensure that Tony McCool will have a playing budget to help him attract and retain the type of players he believes he can help develop and who are the right fit for the Club. Big time Charlies and those with egos bigger than their talents need not apply.

Last year despite the disappointment of relegation, the Club developed strong links with local schools, particularly Weatherfield Academy, our Community Partner School who kindly lend their minibus for our players to travel to away fixtures. The Club recently received recognition for it’s off field work through the FA Community Charter Standard Development Club award.

The Club’s move to becoming a members’ run club was rewarded by a doubling of the membership and a rise of over 20% in home attendances. In addition a huge amount of time went into uniting the three different sections of the Club under the DTFC umbrella which is at last bearing fruit and gives cause for optimism for those who love the Club like a member of their family.

This season the Club has linked up with Mind BLMK (Bedford, Luton, Milton Keynes) to help support the invaluable work Mind does in the mental health field. Members of Mind will receive free training sessions at the Club and discounted admission to home games. In addition we will arrange collections at selected home games and publish articles and highlight local Mind groups’ activities on our website and digital programme. Match Report Stalemate

By Matthew Wilmot Kemspton Rovers 1 – 1 Beaconsfield Town

Rovers marathon October will be extended to nine matches in twenty eight days as a replay is required to separate them from Beaconsfield Town in the FA Trophy. Last season’s Southern League Division One champions, Beaconsfield Town arrived at Hillgrounds on the back of some good recent form and nearly took an early lead as Reece Yorke saw a fourth minute header loop into the arms of Martin Conway. Rovers were looking to the referee on five minutes as Ben Shepherd floated a free kick into the box, Shane Bush looked to have been hauled to the ground in the middle, stopping him from making any contact with the ball but the referee was unmoved. A smart counter attack nearly saw Rovers hit the front as Ty Deacon and Bush combined to set up Luke Heneghan, the midfielder’s curling shot was tipped for a corner by the exentric Constable in the Rams goal. A breathless opening ten minutes was capped with the opening goal for the visitors, a corner was floated in and headed back across goal by Louis Stead, to find Daniel Brown waiting to bundle the ball home. The game became very physical and frustrating as the referee seemed to mither between what was strong physical play and what was foul conduct. Rovers created their equaliser just before the half hour. A throw in the left hand channel was worked into the box by a combination of Harlem Sambu and Ben Acquaye. Ben Shepherd picked up the batton on the corner of the area and hit a volley on the turn that dipped and swerved, seemingly through Constable for one all. Bush was put through by Ty Deacon, but was thwarted by the onrushing keeper. Tony Mendy hit the post at the other end as he battled well to get the ball out of the corner. Before the break came Rovers’ best chance of the game, as Deacon again found Bush. The forward beat Constable to the ball, but his contact on the shot was a half ounce too light as Vassell was able to scramble back and clear from the goal line. The second half began with a strong intent from Rovers, as Deacon and Heneghan forced Constable into action early on. Louis Stead forced a stunning save from Martin Conway as his free kick was heading in to the top corner, only to be denied by the flying figure of Conway at full stretch. Just after the hour mark, Rovers had to be at their defensive best as Beaconsfield attempted to turn the screw, with shots flying in in quick succession, Kempston threw bodies in the way to keep the score level. The game then settled into a easier pace, but came back to life in the dying five minutes. A Rovers corner into the box created chaos and Constable dropped the ball on the goal line, he recovered the fumble and breathed a sigh of relief as the half hearted appeals that it had crossed the line hadn’t moved the officials. There was time for one final chance for the visitors as well, Brendan Matthew seized on a backpass and cut the ball back into the middle. Both sides were screaming for the foul, Rovers thought Mendy in the centre had handled, while Beaconsfield were convinced he was pushed. Not for the first time, the referee was not in the mood and did nothing. The two sides will replay to a conclusion on Tuesday. For Kempston, it will be their ninth game in the month of October. Rovers return to league action next weekend with a home game against Dunstable Town. Match Report Rammed out of Trophy

By Matthew Wilmot Beaconsfield Town 3 – 1 Kempston Rovers

Rovers arrived at the home of the Rams looking to go further in the competition than ever before, but hopes of progress were firmly knocked into touch as the home side controlled the evening. The game was barely four minutes old when the first warning shot was fired, Nathan Webb curling over the Rovers bar from the edge of the box after some intricate build up play. Brendan Matthew then forced Martin Conway into an early save, to sharply deny the forward at the near post. Fifteen minutes in, however, Callum Webb found some space on the left hand side of the box and after some jinking, hit a cross shot goalward. The ball found the net via a wicked deflection off the unfortunate Collard. Webb then had another chance as he found freedom on the Rovers right, a mazy run and shot required another smart save from Conway. From their first meaningful attack of the game, in the twenty first minute, Rovers got level. A left wing cross from Josh Crawley wasn’t cleared properly and fell perfectly for Ben Acquaye to fizz a volley past Constable in the Beaconsfield goal. Luke Heneghan then saw a shot fly wide of the target as Kempston started to find their feet in the game. Charlie Losasso was the next Rams player to test Conway, the keeper again produced a smart save to tip the ball round for a corner. With ten minutes to play before the break, the hosts were in front again. Brendan Matthew was played in through the middle and the former Egham frontman calmly slotted his effort beyond Conway. Heneghan forced two good saves from Constable, who then showed the other side to his game, casually losing possession on the edge of the box to Crawley who was allowed to set himself, but could only find the post with his shot. The let off allowed Beaconsfield to keep their lead at the break. In the second half, James Taylor, the leader of the Rams midfield quartet, had a first time snap shot saved by Conway. Mason Spence was lucky to avoid a caution for a rash challenge in front of the dugouts, going in too recklessly. The referee deciding to speak with the player rather than show cards. On the hour, a free kick played in by Daly was nodded down into the path of Matthew, but the Beaconsfield striker’s tame header was saved. Two home subs then combined as Mendy’s scuffed shot fell kindly for Stead who flashed a volley just wide of goal. In the seventy first minute, hopes of a Kempston come back were all but extinguished as Mason Spence was shown a straight red card for an off the ball incident. It was the only time the referee reached for his cards all game, although there wasn’t too much complaint from players near the incident about the decision. With less than fifteen minutes to go, Rovers had a free kick on the half way line, Heneghan saw Constable standing well out of his goal, trying to organise his defence. The quick-thinking midfielder decided to chance his arm and shot at goal. With Constable scrambling, the ball dipped just over the bar. In stoppage time, Mendy thought he had the chance to settle matters, but when clean through on goal, couldn’t make meaningful contact on the ball and stumbled. Beaconsfield did get the third goal they deserved in the fifth minute of stoppage time, a breakaway saw Mendy square the ball across goal where O’Regan was waiting to tap home into the empty net for three one with the last kick of the game. Kempston have equalled their best ever progress in the FA Trophy this season in making this round, but couldn’t quite make it further. Attention now turns back to the league and a home game on Saturday with Dunstable Town
